“Great place!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 July 2014

What a beautiful, hidden treasure this is! An antique water mill, where the water still falls a meter down, causing the eternal sound of a waterfall. Lovely garden with small but nice swimming pool and beautiful old trees, great for a romantic stroll.
Perfect light, spacious, well decorated room and bathroom. Dinner was the least impressive, probably because they tried so hard to impress... Dishes over the top and therefore not really tasty anymore. We were warned about the expensive wines and took the house wine (€ 22!).
Breakfast was French, so no eggs, but freshly pressed orange juice, great coffee, hot croissants and rolls, good confiture and cheese. We'd recommend others to go and enjoy the quiet charm of the place.

What could have and should have been a great lodging experience was a colossal disappointment because of the worst management conceivable. We stayed here as they screwed up, in the grandest of styles, our reservation at the Chateau (not just us as it turns out). As such, they put us at the Moulin. At face value, it should have been a great stay. The rooms were well designed, recently remodeled and managed to retain old world charm despite the most modern of amenities (i.e. jacuzzis in the room). However, the pathetic management at this place managed to spoil everything by inflicting a chain of mishaps and disappointments on us. The room smelled like it had been sealed up for decades, there was no hot water, the linens were stiff as boards and appear to have been washed in the Huisne River across the street.....the list goes on.

All in all, just avoid this place. It is pretty --but that will not be enough to overcome the inconveniences (and absurd price) of staying there. The worst part of this whole fiasco is that the same people who own the Moulin own the Chateau right up the road. It appears to me that there business strategy is simple...save the money on service and staff make both of these places a disappointment as there is no where else to stay while in Condeau!

What was GOOD about this place? One has easier access to the Spa Pom at the Chateau....which, while outrageously priced, is beautiful. You will need the spa to get over the anger you feel at getting ripped off at this dump. Also, the actual moulin that is in the River Huisne is good for a 12-second thrill.

The complete lack of regard for guests is a disgrace. These people set French hospitality back to the Middle Ages.

What could be a beautiful hotel is let down by poor management. The room (26) that we were give was very nicely furnished and laid out and would have got an excellent rating except for the very strong smell of damp and the dirty cushions and bathrobes. The bathrobes were replaced but with very worn items that in a hotel charging these prices should only have been used as rags. The managers statement that it was damp due to being close to a river (about 50 mtrs) isn't good enough, many hotels are actually over water and don't smell as badly as this. The garden area around the pool and main mill building were well maintained, but away from these areas, as our room was the grounds need work, in fact our outside sitting area had a pile of cigarette ends in it that just should not have been there. Breakfast was very poor, one small glass of orange juice, a hot drink, one yogurt and one less than fresh peach and two pastries ,a small bread roll and a slice of stale bread each. the only choice being eat it or leave it.
On raising these matters with the manager we were just told that our opinion didn't matter and next time we should go to a different hotel - something we'd already worked out for ourselves.
This could be a top quality hotel, it has the location and the buildings but lacks a manager capable of bringing it up to standard for the high prices charged.

This is a nice hotel in a pretty spot on the River Huisne. We were originally booked at the nearby Chateau but were offer a free upgrade to a junior suit at the mill. As the restaurant is located at the mill and the chateau is at the top of quite a steep hill we jumped at it. This was a good move as the suite was very nice, comfortable, and provided a really good nights sleep. The restaurant is very good with an excellent choice of dishes and a good and not overly expensive wine list. Breakfast was also very good. Service was good and the owners are very friendly. Their dog is truly a site to behold.

Room Tip: If the money runs to it go for a junior suite

Was an amazing retreat, easy come easy go attitude, extremely helpful and friendly staff. The Chateau and Mill have been tastefully restored so they keep the rustic and historic charm. The Spa is very modern and lovely way to relax with steam room / sauna / swimming pool.. The food was amazing, myself and my partner tried a lot of traditional French cuisine and a bit too much alcohol, but that was fine as the walks in the beautiful surroundings and relaxation in the spa was perfect for any hangover! We also hired out bikes and cycled around from village to village and got a great sense of rural French lifestyles. I cannot recommend this enough, reading a few other reviews that was negative, they seem to miss the point that this is a traditional French Chateau with a traditional French way of life it wont be all shiny and new (apart from the spa) it's what gives it it's charm, you won't find elevators and why would you?! I'm looking forward to coming back, we miss being here already!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Courtyard house next to spa and it had 2 bathrooms and an additional toilet, had lo...

I stayed at Le Moulin 30 years ago and was enchanted by the place. I remember a glorious setting, coupled with excellent and friendly service, in a first class hotel and restaurant and I have wanted to return ever since. Regrettably, for a whole host of reasons, that had not proved possible until yesterday when our travel plans at last allowed us to stay there, en route back home to Jersey, I described the hotel in glowing terms to my wife, who had not stayed there before, and we were both enthusiastically looking forward to it.
First impressions were that the setting is indeed very special. Sadly that didn't last beyond reception, which is tacky and where we were greeted impersonally and without any warmth whatsoever. Our room, while spectacularly located, immediately over the river, did nothing to improve our early impressions and I quickly formed the impression that nothing had been done to the decor or to upgrade the hotel - other than the rather average spa - since I was last there. This impression was confirmed when we asked for afternoon tea in the lounge. Here the decor falls far short of what one would expect from a 4 star hotel. The sofas are sagging, the floor covering is worn, everything is a rather dirty brown colour, the lighting is dim and there is a complete absence of those so important touches that create a warm and welcoming environment. On top of that the room was far from clean and some places were thick with dust.
It was therefore with some trepidation that we entered the restaurant for dinner. However, here the atmosphere was very different and although the decor probably hasn't changed in 30 odd years either, it was clean and the mood lighting gave the room a nice warm feel, as did the staff, who were welcoming and helpful. The dinner was good too. Not exceptional but very good nonetheless.
in the morning we had continental breakfast served in our room which was fine but when we checked out there was again a complete lack of charm or grace. We paid the bill and left without a single word of "we hope you enjoyed your stay", "have a safe journey" or anything along those lines.
Our lasting impression is that the family who own and run the hotel have fallen out of love with it and that the beauty of the building and its glorious setting deserve far more than they are giving it. We very much hope that they will soon wake up to the treasure they own and give the hotel the redecoration it so desperately needs, and massively raise their game, in the hotel side at least, to make their guests feel welcome. Alternatively, in our opinion they should sell it to someone who will do justice to what could and should be a very special place.

we stayed here for one night on 28 August - the room/suite ( in the cottage next to the main building ) was quite excellent as was the whole experience of le moulin - the team ( especially Muriel ) provided top class service and the food was michelin class - we cannot praise it too highly - Villeray is a beautiful little village with the Chateau a short stroll up the road and well worth a visit -
we'll be back !

Room Tip: spend your money and book room 12 in the cottage
