Le Donjon - Domaine Saint Clair
Ranked #2 of 14 Hotels in Etretat
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 9 September 2013

Tucked away up the hill a few minutes walk from Etretat. Beautiful gardens, pool area, terraces and the 2 different rooms we stayed in were wonderful - Rose Marie with garden view and the top turret room overlooking the sea. No coffee in room but we bought a small jar and used that instead. Excellent wifi. Staff very friendly and helpful on the whole (there is one 'frosty' gentleman) but beware the fine dining in the evening . . . . the maître d rules it with a rod of iron (thought he was going to burst when I asked for the candelabra to be lit) - not the most relaxing occasion but an experience nonetheless. Not cheap but worth it for a short stay.Do check the bill - we got charged for breakfast which we didn't have. Quirky, eccentric, and fabulous - we didn't want to leave and we will most certainly be back.

Room Tip: The turret is amazing but requires good mobility (steep stairs).

We had travelled a long way and arrived an hour before our room was ready at 3-30, unfortunately the reception we received was a little frosty, we weren't offered the chance to go to the bar but told by the superior gentleman to walk in to Etrtetat, sadly this welcome immediately spoiled our time here. The food is very expensive, the wine list is bigger than War and Peace but also very expensive. Our room was very dark with a view of a wall with ivy on it. We decided not to stay for breakfast but were charged for it and had to ask for it to be remved from the bill and although there was a kettle in our room there was no coffee, when I asked why it seems we needed to be in a junior suite to get coffee ! So for the €309 euros for one night with no breakfast and a very average dinner we won't be recommending it to our friends. We found this hotel unfriendly and that is a shame.

What a gem in North France. 8 days of BLISS. Their dining room is deserving of a Michelin star or 2. Excellent cuisine. All the staff - very helpful. With Etretat Cliff top golf close by - a superb getaway break. Will visit again ; blessed with good weather in August -so able to relax by the pool.
Lunch outside was outstanding.........

Wildly colorful and quirky hotel and rooms, clearly the products of interesting minds. The hotel and rooms were clean and comfortable, with a great view. Hint- don't get a nightcap in the library- you will pay dearly. Do, however, check out the library which has incredible decor.

We traveled to Etretat during August 2012 with our 2 daughters. We all loved the hotel. The views were wonderful, the outdoor pool with foosball table and apple cabanas was a huge hit for all of us. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel is an easy walk to town, the ocean and the beauty of Etretat. Our rooms were spacious and comfortable; the bathrooms and furnishings luxurious. We did not have dinner at the hotel, but the breakfast was delicious. The bar and library were very comfortable. The setting and atmosphere were delightful.
