Hmmm. Not sure about this place. We were looking forward to our two final nights stay after a week in the Loire, on the way back to Calais. There's no doubt that the setting is very pleasant and the rooms have been nicely decorated ( by an interior decorator in a sort of 1980's London Mayfair style?). But it seemed to us to be all 'style' over substance. We had the set menu dinner (Arsene! at €35 per person) on the first evening we arrived which was very average and I suspect included ready made foods bought from a supermarket and embellished with a few fruits and vegetable. The wine list, including wines at €280 a bottle was ridiculous. We eventually selected a bottle for €35 which was just about OK. Buffet breakfast the next day at €14 per person (!) was laid out in one of the smallest public rooms. There was much jostling amongst other guests to get to the fairly standard fare and no staff in evidence to order the eggs ( any way you want them). Even when coffee was ordered we had to hunt for someone to bring some warm milk.
The hotel has pretensions to be an 'exclusive retreat' and, with its lovely setting and attractive rooms, it could be very nice. But there is currently a lack of attention to detail which would enable it to justify the price tag.More
