We enjoyed our stay in Ambelia very much!!! The hotel is a small oasis!!! Our cave villas was really spacious, clean with tastefully decoration and great view to the Aegean sea. The breakfast is unique with homemade cakes, omelets and jams!!!! (many choices /the best breakfast ever that we had so far)!!!! The hotel is located in the traditional village of Finikia, an easy walk to OIA (15 min. walk). But what makes the place so special is its hosts. The charming couple who run the hotel is just amazing!!! They are kind, extremely helpful, informative and full of suggestions!!! Thanks for everything, we shall definitely be back again!!!

Room Tip: amazing/spacious cave house!!!

We spent again a week at the beginning of June, because we were very happy with our stay last September and wanted to bring there our friends who were on a honeymoon.
This summer 2013 the accommodation has a great addition, an open air area for breakfast (or late night cups), complete with wifi access (they plan to have a swimming pool by next season). We had this time a huge apartment (3 rooms) with a spacious veranda and everything was just as super as last time. We shall definitely be back again.

We really enjoyed our stay in Ambelia. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel very welcome.

The cave villa was very spacious and very cool with everything we needed for our 8 night stay. The bed was large and nice and comfortable and the villa was spotlessly clean. Towels were changed daily and the owners offered to do any washing we had free of charge.
The breakfast area was lovely and there was something for everyone. The homemade jams/marmalade were beautiful, as were the cakes. We had breakfast at our villa on a few occasions too. We had freshly made omelette every morning too.

Ambelia is located in a traditional Greek village which we loved, there is a taverna in the village and it's very peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of Oia, but within easy walking distance taking 10mins. If you want to view the sunset from it's best vantage point it's about a 20 mins walk. This was not a problem for us and actually very enjoyable after dinner in Oia.

We would definitely recommend Ambelia, it was great value for money and we received a genuinely warm and friendly reception from the couple who manage the villas. They recommended many places for us to eat and visit and were happy to make reservations/book taxi to airport for us. Nothing was too much trouble.

Thank you for making our stay in Santorini truly memorable.

The hotel is located in a quiet area very close to the center of Oia! The villages are very nice, clean, modern and a great view. The owners are very friendly and always available. They make us feeling like a family. The breakfast is very good, with handmade cakes, omelets and another regional products. The space were you have the breakfast is very nice, with a beautiful view. I totally recommend this place. The best quality-price that you can find in Santorini. It deserve 10

Room Tip: Quarto com vista para o mar! São espaçosos e silenciosos.

We stayed at Ambelia for our first leg of our stay (3 nights) in Santorini before meeting friends in Fira. It was hard to know what to expect when we booked this online as this is our first time in Greece. I wish we could have spent our whole stay in Santorini at Ambelia but the place was not available when our friends arrived.

This place is beautiful and for us, it was way more than what we had expected. We had spent time in Athens and Mykonos already and has been staying in small quarters (there were three if us) so our 2 room suite was heavenly. I liked our view of the northeast.

We didn't mind the short walk into Oia and did this walk several times a day. This was not at all a problem for us. We preferred and loved how peaceful it was here and that it was away from the hussle and bustle of Oia.

The couple who run Ambelia are truly wonderful, extremely hospitable and are the kindest people ever. They gave us lots of tips, drove us to the dock for a boat excursion, and even did our laundry for no extra charge. The breakfast meal had something for everyone's taste.

The managers have many great recommendations. A highlight for us was the walk down and back up the stairs to Amoudi; we swam in the bay to the left of the restaurants as recommended by the managers. It was truly amazing and I am so glad we found out about this; make sure to bring water shoes. And swim and explore the little uninhabited island at the bay.

I can see why so many travellers love Ambelia and gave it high ratings.
And for the not so great reviews, I agree: if you don't like to walk, do stairs or be in a more secluded part of Santorini, this is NOT the place for you. But for us, we would definitely stay here again!

We chose to stay here as it was slightly cheaper than the places closer in to the main part of Oia, but still only about 700 metres or something right into the centre of things.

We were greeted by the friendly onsite manager who even carried our bags for us down to our apartment/cave room.

The room was really large with a little kitchen and was very clean. It had a private outdoor sort of area with nice views out over the ocean. As with most Santorini accommodation, there were lots of stairs, but if you aren't prepared to tackle stairs I would recommend avoiding Santorini altogether!

There were lots of little convenience stores close by, and a cute little restaurant that did both take away and dine in. We were able to call up and order our food and then go to get it and eat it out on our little patio overlooking the ocean.

The only downside was that we didn't have wifi in our room, but we were able to access free wifi in the communal area where we were served delicious and generous breakfasts home cooked by our hosts, so this made up for any reason for us to be upset!! They also did our washing for us (we were weary for a few months of travel so this was so so so so appreciated!).

I loved this place, and I loved our friendly hosts who provided us with just about everything that we could want. I would recommend it to anyone!

Room Tip: Ask for one with wifi access

I partially regret leaving only a 2-star review because the couple who owns the hotel is very, very sweet. Unfortunately this is just not a great place to stay if you're planning to visit Oia. Personally I expected a lot more based on the reviews here and would have arranged things differently had I known.

The bottom line is that if you're staying in the northern part of Santorini, particularly Oia, you want to be in Oia and/or facing the Caldera. This place is neither. It's located in a not particularly nice residential village outside Oia and more than the "10 minute walk to Oia" as it's advertised. More like 20 minutes, and not a particularly nice walk at night. In fact the hotel itself is located within a little maze of steps that you feel lucky to find every time you arrive at the hotel (especially the first time). If you're on a vacation that's even a little bit romantic, this is not the place to stay. Better to spring for more while in Oia and save while you're elsewhere. Or stay in Imerovigli or somewhere that has a Caldera view.

The pros are that the couple who manage it are very, very warm and eager to help. The rooms are spacious and clean (although ours had a slight odor of wine or liquor when we entered). The breakfast is homemade and very, very good. And frankly it's cheap for the Oia area.

So if all you're looking for is a place to lay your head and to save a few bucks while being able to walk to Oia, this might do the trick. But if you care (as I now do) about flushing your toilet paper down the toilet, you're advised to stay elsewhere because the water pressure apparently isn't strong enough to flush toilet paper :-(
