“Romantic little cave with the most dramatic view”
Reviewed 27 October 2008

I cannot imagine a more dramatic or romantic place than Oia. This was the ultimate honeymoon destination. Perivolas, nested on the side of a cliff, captures the essence of the island. We had an incredibly romantic honeymoon here—we were 1 of maybe 10 other couples/honeymooners. The pool, although small, was gorgeous, and there were many different nooks and areas to claim for a day of sunbathing. The breakfast was fantastic—an excellent selection for buffet and then the ability to cook anything else you wanted. The location was also wonderful- just a quick walk down the path to the main area of Oia. The hotel was very friendly in advance of our arrival and throughout our stay. All of that being said, it is important to monitor your expectations at this hotel. It is not modern (there was no TV, the bathroom was quite small), and we have certainly paid far less for much nicer hotels. What you are paying for is your own little secluded cave, away from it all, in the most incredible spot in the world.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights during our honeymoon in Greece and can't say enough about our stay here. It really is as beautiful as you see in the brochures -- and it's everywhere you look, not just one special vantage point.

LOCATION: The hotel is located about a 10 minute walk from the villiage of IA, which we found to be delightful! This hotel found the perfect balance between being near enough to food, shopping, etc. without the hussle and bustle of being in the middle of it all. And, it's caldera view is just spectacular!

ROOMS: It took a night for me to get used to the idea of sleeping in an honest to goodness cave, especially after reading about the volcanic activity of Santorini and worrying about getting buried alive in an earthquake. Once that was conquered, I couldn't get enough of my special little cave. There are candles for your use throughout the room, and we discovered that candlelight in a cave is very pretty and romantic! The room has a little kitchenette for your use, complimentary water, and they even greeted us with a small decanter of sweet Santorini wine - yummy! The bathrooms were replenished daily with L'Occitane soaps and shampoos, which was a great touch. My one complaint was that our room (no. 7) only had the front door for ventilation, so once that was closed for the night, there was no fresh air. My husband couldn't get used to the water all over the bathroom from the lack of a shower curtain or door, but I didn't really mind (maybe I was prepared better from reading other reviews?).

BREAKFASTS: We found the breakfasts to be very adequate -- coffee, cappucino, fresh juices, fresh tarts, breads, cereals, cold meats, fruits, and Greek yogurt with honey and nuts. I couldn't get enough of the yogurt.

INTERNET ACCESS: There is free internet access at the reception room for use at any time, day or night. Also, I believe that there is wi-fi, but we weren't traveling with a laptop.

I could go on and on about our stay here, but, to summarize, don't hesitate about booking here -- you won't be disappointed. It's certainly a memorable experience.

I heard about the Perivolas from some magazines and book reviews and since the first time I saw the picture of the infinity pool in their website, I decided we had to stay there.
We were in honeymoon and this was the most expensive hotel of our trip, but it was realy worth it.
The room was lovely: everything in white, lots of space, a great bed, sofa and even a mini-kitchen, with frigobar, sink, eletric tea-maker, glasses, et. But the best part was the veranda, with a table and two chaises, where we could sit and enjoy the marvelous view. One day, we saw the sunset from there, having greek wine and a wonderful cheese they serve in the breakfast (and since I loved it so much, the hotel sent us a little bit after my husband's request)
The room is cleaned twice a day, so you always have clean towels and bathroom, what is very good.
The staff is amazing, everybody is so nice and helpful with everything and I dont have words to describe the pool and the stunning view you have from there. The hotel is so quiet (they don´t accept children or large groups) that you can hear the birds singing.
The only bad thing is that they don´t accept credit cards, so we almost gave up staying there, because the money transfer was so difficult, but I´m very glad we didn't.
There where the best days of our honeymoon, and I would (better saying: I definitly will) stay there again, without a doubt.

This place is obviously expensive, but the best thing you can say about it is that it was well worth the hefty price. The architecture and grounds are stunning. I was there on a honeymoon, and this portion of our trip was our favorite (and most expensive) by far. The staff are extremely friendly - transfers to/from the ferries and airport, helping us book activities, setting up private dining spaces, etc. The food is great (but there are also great restaurants in Oia - a 10-15 minute walk), the location can't be beat.

My only complaint, and it's very a minor one, is that they only took cash for all incidentals (not credit cards). A bit of a pain, but very easily overcome.

All in all, one of the best vacation hotel experiences I've had. Highly recommend it.

Amazing place, wonderful views, nice rooms BUT all that disappears... when you arrive at 11 p.m in the night, with reservation, and they tell you THAT THEY DO NOT ACCEPT CHILDREN!!!!!....it was their fault, nobody at the phone mentioned this policy....and they continue to remark this all the day long...making our stay , 2 days ,horrible...more,unfortunately for us, we had a problem with the sewer and the bathroom was literally full of sh....when you pay 500 euro per night and you have to stay out of your room for 5 hours in the afternoon , you expect someone offers youa glass of wine or someone apologies .Nothing...they changed with a lower standard room and in the morning , when we check out, we asked for a symbolic discount...but the answer was negative.Incredible, very poor management.....

Given the room rate, I was concerned about the mixed reviews of this hotel on Trip Advisor, but booked it none the less, and we were delighted. We stayed in Studio 3, one of the "cheaper " rooms and we were very happy with the accomodation. The rooms - Caves - are much more comfortable and stylish than they appear in the photos. Yes the bathroom is small, but adequate, with gorgeous L'Occitane toiletries, the beds enormous and comfortable and the balconies / terraces all with the most amazing view are wonderful, although none are private. We especially loved that the room had glasses, crockery, cutlery, toaster, electric jug and coffee maker, so you could prepare hot drinks / snacks and the bar fridge had plenty of room for food and wine. The ambience was spoilt by some loud Americans from time to time, but most only stay 2 days and most go out during the day. We stayed 5 nights, hardly ever left the property, and loved every minute. Oia is pretty but overrun by bus loads of tourists during the day, so we visited at night . The food quality at the restaurant is excellent and well priced. The breakfast can really become a brunch as there is so much selection. There are many places to sit, sunbake, take breakfast or eat dinner in the terraced gardens. For our last night we reserved a private candle-lit table for dinner right on the edge of the Caldera with its amazing view - very romantic. I found it difficult making the reservations over the net (lack of response), so I eventually made the reservations by phone. Our welcome was not warm, but the restaurant and room staff provided great friendly service . The pool is spectacular, the gym adequate and the hot tub a pleasant surprise.

What a tremendous experience!! Location, pool, physical layout of hotel, uniqueness of rooms, view, personalization of service.... we could go on and on. After having visited Mykonos - which was a bit of a letdown - Santorini, Oia and Pervolas more than made up for it. We did not want to leave!!! The rooms - which are referred to as houses (which they used to be) are built in the caves of the hillside, overlooking the caldera and the Aegean Sea . Each one is different, unique, creatively decorated, and extremely spacious and comfortable. Some have private pools, all are very well equipped with huge patios and to die for , mesmerizing views!! Food and beverage quality - especially for such a small, intimate property - was excellent - compliments to the Chef. Reception staff extremely helpful - all staff very friendly. If you want relaxing - this is it! Service was very personal and attentive without being over bearing. You set the tone of your stay and the staff respects and accommodates your wishes. Pervolas is family owned with a personal involvement of the owner to assure everything is flawless - aesthetically, service, meeting guest needs, etc. The town of Oia is a very short stroll and is a quaint, comfortable village. The peaceful and tranquil atmosphere at Pervolas is special and hard to describe - brings new meaning to the magic of the Greek islands!!
