“Wonderful Stay at Chelidonia”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

We just returned from a stay at Chelidonia Villas. The reservation was easily made by email correspondence with Erika, the co-owner. I had many questions and her answers were direct and absolutely accurate.
When we arrived we were upgraded to the Honeymoon Suite. which was spacious and newly decorated. The room was beautiful... the view from the patio was beathtaking.. It was very well equipped with plenty of towels, dishes, lounges and a very comfortable bed. The location couldn't be better..right down from the main street in the absolute center of the town. Just question Erika about the number of steps down to your room.. It is a good question for any accomodation in Oia.
Erika's husband was very helpful and made suggestions about restaurants and places to go on the island.. Unfortuneately, my husband had caught a bug on our earlier travels and we had to cut our visit short by two days. Though the owners could have charged us for those nights they graciously only charged us for our time there and helped us make arrangements to leave early.
I would highly recommend this hotel.. We really enjoyed our stay..

My husband and I stayed here for three nights in August 2011. It was by far the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. The room was really unique; I felt as if I was staying in a little piece of history, knowing that it was once someones home. We stayed in the "Room with the Big Rock". It, like all the rooms, were caves that were completely painted white, and there was a large boulder coming out of the wall by the bed. You would think that the rooms would feel dark or damp being that they are caves, but it's actually the opposite. The ceilings are quite high and it felt very airy and refreshing, plus there are lots of windows.

The bathroom was very nice, recently upgraded I think. There was a small kitchen with everything you would need to make breakfast, coffee, etc. We had our own terrace with the most spectacular view of the caldera. And keep your eyes out for adorable tiny lizards. They can be seen on the white stairs headed up to the town!

It was lovely to hear the cruise ships blowing their horns down in the caldera or the church bells ringing. I highly recommend going to the bakery on the main street and buying a Mille Feuille to take back and enjoy on the terrace!

When we checked in, a young man helped us. I think he was the owners son. He carried all of our luggage down the MANY steps to reach our room, showed us around the room, and then gave us a map of Oia and recommended restaurants and things to see and do. While it is on the high end price-wise, it is so worth the splurge. If you can get it, do! When I first emailed, I was told that they don't book for less than 4 nights, but I explained that it was all the time we had in Santorini, and they made an exception for us. The owner was also very friendly and helpful! Highly recommend this beautiful oasis on Santorini!

Room Tip: Be prepared to climb many, many steps every time you want to venture to the town and back to your ro...

We first stayed at Chelidonia Houses in 1989 when we backpacked after college. My wife and I returned a year later to get married on the island, and we have since been back at least 8 times, alone or with all 4 children in tow. We ALWAYS stay at Chelidonia. The views of the Caldera are amazing, the Cliff houses are immaculate, and the owners are solid hardworking friendly people who genuinely care if you enjoy your stay. I (we) highly recommend Chelidonia and Oia if you are staying on Santorini. It is the best place to be. Enjoy!

I saw on tripadvisor that this hotel had great review and booked with them directly. They had free Wifi, Great Coffee but most importantly, they gave us room that does not require too much stairs as we had a toddler with us. I thought that was very considerate of the owners.

Here is a compilation photo I made coz I love the travel we had and would like to go back.

Hope you enjoy your travel.

Room Tip: The rooms near the main walkway can get noise traffic but not much. Less stairs is also appreciated...

Stay for 3 nights for vacation.

The villa is located on the caldera, like we stay in the beautiful postcard of oia. The villa is simple, but clean and comfortable. The view from the villa is priceless.

Word cannot describe how beautiful of the view from our villa. It is incredible, amazing, and perfect vacation of our lifetime. Every minute is worth travelling from 5000 miles away.

Our stay at Chelidonia Villas was the stuff of fantasy. The villas are beautifully restored; our spacious 2 bedroomed apartment, with living area & kitchen, was a cool haven. The view from our terrace to the Caldera was picture postcard perfect. It was hard to drag ourselves away - in fact, we ate in most nights! A wonderful host who made us feel very welcome from the moment we arrived & the taxi was waiting.

From the start, we were met at the port of Thira by a very efficient taxi-van driver, who took us directly to Oia... a thirty minute ride, over the tops of the Santorini cliffs. We were met by a very able porter, who deftly delivered our heavy baggage to our accommodations, 82 steps down the cliff-side, and by "Rose", the owner/proprietor of the Chelidonia Villas. Thus began a seven day adventure that dreams are truly made of. Rose welcomed us with a fine bottle of Domaine Sigalas Assyrtiko white wine in the refrigerator, sweet green grapes, and a very pungent blend of imported German coffee in the kitchen, for the next weeks worth of breakfasts... we provided the Greek yogurt, bananas, peaches and honey from the market down the street. Next to the market is the bakery featuring a vast array of home made breads, cakes, sweets, and the best baklava that anyone could imagine. Our traditional cave-villa was cozy, clean and very comfortable: a living/sitting/dining room, fair-sized bedroom with a very comfortable bed, large bathroom with enclosed stand-up shower, and a small step-down kitchenette. Throughout were antique wooden furnishings: desk, wardrobe, bureau, along with several unique lamps, lighting fixtures, candles and lanterns... very romantic! The daytime heat was pretty intense, especially the afternoons (90 - 95 degrees Fahrenheit) but the air-conditioning was well up to the task. Nights were about 20 degrees cooler and we slept wonderfully. Views from our private patio were stunning... a jaw-dropping vista of cobalt-blue water and boats of all shapes and sizes, with the cliffs of Thira/Fira rising beyond and far above the caldera. Rose was very helpful to offer his suggestions of favorite restaurants (1800, Ambrosia, Roka) and local sites of interest (Domaine Sigalas Winery). His wife, Erika, was especially attentive to the details of booking our stay and in arranging our transfer to Chelidonia from the port where we had arrived by ferry. They made it easy for us upon departure as well... a porter lugged the bags (again up 82 steps) and a taxi-van was on-time at 5:30AM sharp, for a twenty minute trip to the airport. Oia is heaven on earth and we really hated to leave, but we promise to return... to Chelidonia!! Next time, two weeks!!!

Room Tip: All villas overlook the beautiful caldera.
