I don't often take the time to write reviews on Trip Advisor but this place was so fantastic, I can't help but go on and on about it. Takis was the perfect host, our breakfast was outstanding, every detail was taken care of and the room was the picture of perfection. When I think about good hospitality, I will think about Takis and this hotel. And I HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who is considering staying here.

We arrived in Santorini never having been here before, and without a reservation. We searched online for a unique place to stay on our short trip, and the pictures and description of the 1864 Sea Captain's home stood out from the rest. The rooms looked as they would have in 1864. They were furnished in antiques and were immaculate, thanks to the wonderful housekeeper Romi. The hosts Takis and his wife Demitria were gracious and very helpful recommending restaurants and activities for us and our teenage children. They greeted us as we were dropped off with a donkey to carry our luggage, which was quite unique and charming!
The Captain's suite was perfect for our family of 4, and could comfortably accommodate more if needed. Breakfast was delicious, and so plentiful we did not need lunch. The beds were extremely comfortable, and the bedding, linens and robes were luxurious.
We had probably the best view of the Aegean and the caldera from our private terrace. Many bride and grooms posed in front of our suite to have their wedding photos taken on the path. It is just a few steps from the best street in town with tons of shopping and great restaurants. We would highly recommend this hotel/B&B for couples, families, or small groups, and will stay here again!
(As a former flight attendant of a major airline, I have stayed in many fine hotels, and the 1864 Sea Captain's House- due to the hosts and staff, the accommodations, the views, and the charming village of Oia- is one of the best and most unique I have encountered. Additionally, my husband has travelled to over 32 countries for business and places this hotel at the top of his list of his favorite places to stay.)

From the moment of our arrival in Oia (just past midnight) to the time of our departure, Takus, Demitra and Romi were the perfect hosts. They made every effort to assure that my wife and my stay in Santorini was exceptional. From helping secure the best tables in restaurants to recommended places to visit they never had a misstep in six days.

I think it would be very hard to find a property anywhere in the world with a better view. The only downside of the spectacular view is a number of visitors to the island will walk past during the day to be able to photograph it.

The property was very clean. We stayed in the Venetian room which was exactly as described on their website. The Sailing Suite has a larger part of the shared terrace and slight larger accommodation but it really doesn't matter. Both of these suites (and I suspect the Captain's Suite that we did not see) were superb.

When they say that breakfast is included it is a huge understatement. Every morning we were served a delicious breakfast with your choice of numerous items...many of them fresh from Santorini (anything made with the local tomatoes should not be missed). The breakfasts were so filling my wife and I only actually ate one lunch on Santorini (it was included with our Sunset Sail).

I'm sure there are other hotels that are less expensive, but this property exceeded all expectation and really made our visit fabulous.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Venetian Room. It was very nice. We saw the Sailing Suite and it was slightly lar...

We were there for 2 nights in July 2014. Takis and his wonderful wife, Dimitra and the housekeeper make you feel like you are guests in someones home. The rooms are wonderful, this is a small 3 room hotel with a fantastic view and location. The breakfasts are 4 star as are the amenities and the quality of the sheets and towels. Considering how close the room is to the caldera walk, it is extremely quiet and peaceful. Its worth a trip to Oia just to stay here!
Highly recommended

We truly enjoyed our stay at 1864 The Sea Captain's House in Oia of Santorini. We were there for 3 days in July 2014. The Captain's Suite was perfect for my wife and me, and our son who was happy in his own private room - the loft, which is part of the suite. The room is clean and nicely decorated. The staff were wonderful, including Takis and Dimitra, and Romi who prepared wonderful breakfasts for us, served on our private patio each morning. Takis arranged for our "taxi" (a donkey and its owner) to haul our luggage from the street, then along the delightful sidewalks and steps of Oia to the hotel, and the same at the end of our stay. The hotel is really more of a delightful bed and breakfast, right in the heart of shopping and restaurant area of Oia, overlooking the splendid bay (Caldera) some distance below. One morning I got up early and ran the hiking trail almost to Fira and back (bring water!). The trail can take several hours to hike, but if you are used to running you can cover the ground much faster, while enjoying a sunrise at the crest of the volcano. Then, when back at the Sea Captain's House I enjoyed the excellent breakfast with my family. Be sure to take a tour of Akrotiri (archaelogical site) at the other end of the island. I purchased a book "Atlantis Never Lost - The Story of Santorini" by local author George Koukoulas, which is available at several stores in Oia. It's a fun and informative read. I wish I had purchased some of the Akrotiri art available in Oia art stores, such as the bull vaulting frescoes, but that gives us a reason to come back!

Room Tip: Our Captain's Suite room was perfect for us, with a nice patio, but an upper level room would ha...

Most of us only get to come to Santorini once in our lives. If you're in that group, go ahead and splurge. Stay a few nights at 1864 The Sea Captain's House in Oia. It's expensive, but worth every penny. We spent thee nights there in late May, 2014. We booked the Sailing Suite with its high, vaulted ceilings, canopy bed and seating area. This place is old and whiners might quibble about its old TV (Who watches TV when one of the world's most beautiful views is just through the windows?!) or its well worn furniture. Forget that. The suite is large and clean and thoughtful amenities abound. The Sea Captains House is not a hotel so much as a multi-level bed-and-breakfast. Tony and his staff cater to your every need. He booked us a couple's massage and a sail on a 63-foot catamaran. Romy brought us breakfast and we delighted in her husky voice.
In another review, some grump complained about all the tourists. We had a great time inviting a few of the young couples in their wedding outfits up to our terrace for a visit and a place to take their pictures. What fun is travel if you don't meet and visit with the locals and other tourists. The caldera view from our terrace was just jaw dropping and we thought we share it with some others.
A couple of tips: Be sure to stay in touch with Tony so that he can help you with your transfers and your bags. The Village Center only has a couple of squares open to vehicles and the closest is still a bit of a walk to the Sea Captains House. You won't have to carry your bags if you arrange Santorini transportation through Tony. About the sunset - you can't see the actual sunset from this place. But there are other places such as restaurants and a public area on a point where you can. However, the most beautiful thing we witnessed was how this village is transformed as the sun sneaks behind the island's ridge. The light softens, then slowly dims. From your terrace, you'll see the lights from a couple of restaurants and other terraces come on. Sip a glass of wine, take some pictures and soak in the cool evening air. This is why you come here and this is why you want to stay at Sea Captains House. You won't regret it.

1864 The Sea Captain's House came highly recommended to us by friends that stayed here last year. My husband and I were so impressed with the attention to detail displayed by Takis, Dimitra and the rest of their team. We were treated like family from the minute we stepped foot onto the property. Each morning we were served an exceptional breakfast right on our balcony which overlooked the Aegean Sea. We cannot wait to return to 1864 The Sea Captain's House in the future as well as refer any and all of our friends and family to this property! Thank you again for providing us with the perfect ending to our honeymoon in Oia.
