“An oasis”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

The other reviews are right: Pelagos is an oasis, somewhere to happily relax for a few days or use as a base to come back to.

A few quick things we weren't sure about having looked online
- The location is a quiet masterstroke. It's quiet and rural, yet you can have a lovely late afternoon golden hued walk back from the tourist mecca of Oia. There's a beach 500m away, and a picturesque church just up the hillside from which to see sunset.
- While it is at heart a micro-resort, it doesn't feel like it. Everything is tasteful, there's just what needs to be and nothing more. The accommodation has the bed raised up in the Santorini style arch roof, with day bed and space below - genius.

Combine a few days here with a few in a picture-postcard caldera view Oia cave-house, and you have a perfect Santorini retreat. No stress, no car, all quality.

We stayed at Pelagos for four wonderful days/nights. Initially we intended to stay in central Oia also, but we were so impressed with the Pelagos' restful setting that paying more than four times more for a cliff view lost its appeal.

The food at the hotel was wonderful, simple yet tasty; rivaling any high-end places in Santorini. My husband also peeked into the kitchen one day and said it was spotless. I so enjoyed snacking on figs from the abundant fig trees surrounding the hotel. The service was mellow, yet attentive, a perfect tempo to any vacation. Really impressed by the hard work of Elsa, Periklis and Antonis. Thank you.

Lots to do nearby, from exploring the small village further up, climbing to the church above the hotel (a good sunset spot), investigating the veggie garden and the nearby beaches. One day, we rented an ATV and followed the coast towards Fira. We came across a charming crisscrossing staircase going down to the beach (about a mile away), made from red volcanic rocks. It felt rare and special to find a secluded beach.

We stayed at the Pelagos for 2 nights in early July 2013 as part of a 2 week holiday in Santorini and Mykonos (see other reviews of Enigma, Tagoo and Argo) and we really wished it was longer! This is one of the most relaxing places we have stayed with incredibly friendly people (including Zaira the dog). Neither of us have ever returned to a hotel before but we will definitely be returning to the Pelagos. The food was excellent and it was good to see many of the ingredients growing right next to the tables. Our room had a bed on a sleeping platform with some pretty tricky steps up to it so if you don’t fancy tackling these I would mention that when you book. We had spent 3 days in Fira before coming to the Pelagos and splitting a week this way is an ideal way to see both sides of Santorini. The walk to Oia was quite tough so if you going during the middle of the day, take plenty of water. It’s definitely worth the walk – meandering through the streets, watching the sunset and some amazing places to eat.

We had a wonderful experience at Oia. From the moment you enter, it gives the feeling of an Oasis. They have a lovely pool and life revolves around the pool be it at breakfast, lunch or dinner giving the feeling of a large family gathering. The staff are outstanding. Very friendly and very helpful. The dogs were a bit annoying but once they realised it, they ensured we were not disturbed by them. The only drawback was its distance from Oia town but this is not a place you would go to tour Oia, you would go here for a nice relaxing experience.

I spent 6 nights at this hotel with my husband and 8 year daughter. What a truly wonderful place! As soon as we arrived we were taken to the bar by the pool and given complimentary drinks whilst one of the owners (Peri) told us about the island and excursions. His English was excellent. The real strength of this place is the warm and relaxing atmosphere and the attention given to you by the owners and staff. I think it is family run so we saw the owners doing everything right through to clearing the tables.

Our room was airy and was on 2 floors with steep steps up to a sleeping area at the top. There was a shower and a kitchen area downstairs. The room had its own patio area with a table and chairs and our room had hammocks just outside on some trees.

I was a bit concerned how far the hotel was from Oia. It is a 40 minute walk but quite steep at times and not easy in the heat. We did walk it several times but the hotel will order a taxi for you - 10 Euros one way. There is a lovely beach a few minutes walk away from the hotel.

We ate most of our meals at the hotel. Lovely food. The breakfast was great - fresh bread and home made cake. Eggs, cheese and ham. The best Greek yoghurt I have ever tasted. Also home made fig jam! So delicious. They grow a lot of their own food.

The pool was also a real strength of this hotel as I think it is 20 metres long and has a proper deep end. They were some toys for children to play with and lots of sun loungers and chairs. They also had sun creams and hats available that other guests had left behind.

I would really really recommend this hotel. Being 40 minutes away though from the nearest town, it may be an idea to hire a car. We were happy to just sit by the pool and walked to Oia a few times. The sunset catamaran trip was good which Peri phoned up and booked for us. Great for seeing the famous sunset!

The day before we left we were given a complimentary bottle of Santorini wine which was a lovely touch. My daughter loved the owner's dog Zaihira (not sure of spelling) who roamed around the hotel!

Thank you to Antonis and Peri for such a wonderful time.

When you've just landed or taken a ferry and you arrive at your hotel, it's so nice to be escorted by a tranquil pool and its surrounding palm trees, and to be offered a drink at the bar while they explain how everything works/what to see/where to go...

And every day, as we explored a bit more of Santorini - I genuinely looked forward to getting back, having a swim and eating a little aperitivo while chatting with the staff. Staff also seems like the wrong word, as the team working there somehow seemed to know what you want/need - and nothing was too much trouble. When we left, I considered them new friends... and I was so relaxed.

There rooms are very pretty (there are many different ones), and the location is great for exploring nearby Oia or sitting on a lovely beach just a few minutes walk away.

Being "agriturismo" style - they also serve food using ingredients from their own garden - and we ate there a few times and loved it. I would certainly go back.

Myself and 2 friends spent the final few nights of our Greek holiday here and I cannot praise this hotel enough! The staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough to help us, both in the hotel and also helping us find out about trips. I've never been to such a friendly hotel that seem to care about each guest individually!
The hotel itself was lovely, spacious and clean rooms, and a very nice pool area with plenty of sun loungers and lots of greenery surrounding the hotel. The breakfast was plentiful and there was food served throughout day which was also delicious.
Oia is a walk away, maybe 4km, but this was easily accessible by car and also by a nice walk although perhaps not in midday heat as it is up a hill! After a few hours in Oia-which although is stunning it is packed with tourists-it was a welcome relief to return to the peacefulness of Pellagos and I wouldn't stay anywhere else if I returned! Cannot thank the staff here enough, Antonis and Perry treated us so well!
