On a visit to Oia, Santorini in October, we went one evening to the Ammoudi Fish Tavern for dinner. We had walked down the 300 or so steps at noon to see the place, booked a table for that evening, and repeated the entire walk (both up and down!) for dinner. The location cannot be beat, and we had requested a table close to the water. The service was attentive and we enjoyed superb fresh mussels as a starter, as well as fried squid (good, though we found a little too greasy for our taste). We then picked out our own fish (sea bream), and were taken into the kitchen to see it being weighed (it's sold by the gram). It was very good, though truthfully, we have had better fish in other countries. That said, it was tasty, and the waiter came and carefully picked the fish from the bones for us at table. We enjoyed a litre of the house white wine, and were brought delightful little fried donuts with honey and vanilla ice cream - complimentary - after dinner! It was not an inexpensive meal, but the location couldn't be beat, and the staff were lovely.
