“Can't say enough....”
Reviewed 6 July 2011

I've traveled a lot and stayed in the best and worst places. My fiancee' and I spent 12 nights at Laokasti and feel fortunate to have stumbled upon the place. We will go back there again when we revisit. Located in Oia, the best place to stay on Santorini, Laokasti is genuine Greek hospitality, cooking and an incredible value. Only a minute from caldera views and all the hub bub you could ever want, it is perfect for couples, and families as there is space and quiet to relax in. Outstanding pool. For those more extroverted, making friends with the family and staff is an honor, pleasure and part of what we regard as the best vacation ever. DO NOT overlook the food at the Laokasti. Vicki can give great recommendations and is helpful with activities as well. She isn't passive aggressive as a previous reviewer who spent only a day complained. How stupid. The restaurant is awesome and tremendous flavor versus the more pricey alternatives we tried approx 50% of the time. Best tomato balls and dessert wine on the island. Spiro, Maria and the staff are all caring pros and bend over backwards to please. It isn't five stars, but it is the best value and most authentic, friendly Greek experience and the most pleasurable vacation I've ever had in my 55 year life.....

Room Tip: we were poolside, loved it, but all rooms are clean and beautiful

We only stayed for one night on our whirlwind trip to Greece. The fact that is was one night could have been the reason for the negative part of my review.

The pros: Beautiful Pool, excellent food by the pool with a very nice barman/waiter, excellent breakfast- the owner's wife cooks breakfast and she is very nice and sweet woman, large room for the 4 of us, clean, close to the shops/restaurants, very quiet and very relaxing.

Cons: my credit card mysteriously would not work there (it worked at every other establishment during our trip) and the receptionist was not very helpful. I got the sense she just wanted us to pay cash since we were only staying for one night. Which in the end we did, but something about the interaction felt off. Also we asked if a taxi could be called to take us to the port. The front desk said yes but what came was a bus to pick us up. The communication lacked a bit and overall it made the 4 of us feel that we were more of a nuisance to them than a guest at their hotel. Given that the front desk woman was Australian I didn't think communication should be an issue. Instead she came across as a bit passive aggressive and condescending to all four of us. Also the front desk told us the "best place to see the sunset is our roofdeck". This is not true. Yes, you can see the sunset but it is on the opposite side from the caldera and there is a building and power lines obstructing your view. To sum it up, the place is great as long as you can weather the attitude from the Australian at the front desk.

We stayed at this hotel on the 7th June - 14th June 2011 as a couple. We booked this hotel after reading reviews on tripadvisor as they were excellent and they were spot on!

Laokasti Villas was an excellent choice for accomdation and location around a 10 minute walk into the center of Oia.

The pools, grounds, rooms, restaurant and reception were spotless and very greek style.

Hotel Amenties- Big pool and jacuzzi never felt over crowded and could always get a sunbed most occasions there was no one around the pool so we had it to ourselves.

Rooms- Spacious rooms, daily maid service with a fresh towels. Air conditioning.

The food around Laokasti villas was excellent and very reasonable.

The service we received from the hotel was excellent. Vicky on reception arranged car hire for us for one day 40 euros with fully comp insurance. Vicky pointed out places we could visit on a map of Santorini and with her help we visited some really great villages.

Overall we had a fantastic holiday laokasti villas was value for money, great location, friendly service and would return in a heartbeat!

- Very good support from Victoria, the receptionist
- Excellent price/performance ratio
- You cannot see the caldera from the hotel but must simply cross the street to see it
- The hotel is at the beginning of the shopping street, again, a stone's throw away
- Excellent Greek food, very good value for the money. The owner/cook uses as many local ingredients as possible
- The hotel also has a rooftop restaurant. It can get a bit windy on occasion, but there are adjustable see-through shields to protect you
- Good parking facility
- Local buses stop just in front of the hotel

The hotel is located across from the start of the main pedestrian street, which is a perfect location in Oia as it affords the hotel a lot more space with access to the shops/restaurants literally across the street. Hotel is safe for little people, we had our 2 year year old with us.

Oia is a small place, with most residences built into the side of the cliff, the main street is about 1/2 mile long. We went in mid May, warm during the day and cool evenings, no mosquitoes. Most places were open but some were just in the process. August is the big busy month.

Hotel has a great pool with plenty of loungers/tables and our room had table chairs at front patio and back balcony so we could watch sun rise and set. Staff were excellent and responded to all our requests in a matter of minutes. It's family owned and run and Vicky, Spiro, Maria and the gang take great pride in ensuring you have a great trip.

Accommodation is big and roomy, more motel level furnishings from a USA perspective but perfectly comfortable and very clean. Maids even folded our clothes and cleaned dishes :)

Room Tip: If kids the maisonnettes are great, two levels

This was the perfect place to stay in Oia (and by the way, make sure you stay in Oia if you're going to Santorini...it's by far the most picturesque town on the island). It had a beautiful view (and the more famous view of the cliffs was just a short walk away). Our apartment was so cute and homey. The breakfast was nice...Greek yogurt and fruit with great, warm bread. It was quaint, and close to everything. I'd definitely stay here again!

We stayed at Laokasti for about 6 days in September. The hotel is clean, the room spacious, and the property is well situated. It is just across the street from the beginning of the pedestrian walkway through Oia. They have great food, free wifi, the pool is wonderful, and the family that owns the hotel was very helpful and kind. They helped us plan several excursions and gave us great restaurant recommendations in Fira. Victoria was fantastic. A great find, we'll gladly go back!
