The Caldera Villas was a great place to stay for our honeymoon. It is one of those cool hotels that is partly a cave. Our room had a semi-private patio, which was wonderful for hanging out. We did meet our neighbors, but it felt like we had our own special area.

This hotel is not on the sunset side of the island. It is the caldera view. You will not be able to see the sunset from your room. It is about a 10 minute walk down a pedestrian walkway to see the sunset (you will know which way to go – when it is approaching sunset there are tons of people walking in that direction). However, the caldera view is breathtaking as well. At first, we were disappointed that we weren’t able to see the sunset but after staying at the Caldera Villas, we were so happy that we had this view instead It is breathtaking all day and night - it looks beautiful for more than the 15 minutes (ie length of sunset). You can see cliffs and in a distance is Fira, which looks beautiful lit up at night.

The staff working at this hotel is very nice. Elena was so sweet. The breakfast is the basic yogurt and breads but the staff was also making made-to-order omelets. The pool is small but perfect for a lazy afternoon and quick dip while admiring the view.

The location of this hotel is great. It is walking distance to plenty of shopping and restaurants and from the top of the stairs it is a 5-10 minute walk to the bus stop that takes you to Fira and elsewhere on the island. One limit to this hotel is the stairs. They are ridiculous for even a young fit couple. Thank gosh they carried our luggage because we would not have made it. The stairs are not just numerous but kinda of cobblestone-y and uneven. They are sloping and range in steepness. Also, the donkeys go up and down these steps so sometimes you need to watch where you put your foot down.

One final comment, this is not related to the hotel per se, but we liked Oia and are happy we stayed here instead of Fira. It was cleaner and more relaxing.

Room Tip: Take the precautions about the stairs seriously.

Oia is a nice place to stay, not too crowded like any other place. Many stairs but it's worth it!!!!

Room Tip: Get a room with the balcony

Me and my friends returned happy after a few days stay at Caldera Villas in November. Incredible views, great room, a perfect place for honeymooners. Near by the restaurants, bus/taxi stop and market. Since the weather was perfect we did the trekking path to Fira. The sea water was perfect so we could swim. For lunch Katrina Restaurant in Ammoudi - fresh fish and sea food, Lotza- greek food, excellent .Highly recommend this as a romance destination!

This place is situated in a great position to view the Caldera. Absolutely fabulous views that entertain you any time of day. The cave rooms are comfortable and amentities good although a kettle would be a great addition (but this is common in Greece) . As mentioned by other reviewers, the shower lacks a screen so the result of 4 people showering is a flooded bathroom and soaked towels. The on-site staff are very helpful a friendly. Sami lugged our baggage up & down the difficult 40 or so tricky steps.

Our stay ended on a very sour note when our daughters iPhone went missing from the room on the last day of our stay. Everyone says that theft is not an issue in the area and you certainly feel safe in Oia. The manager at Ecorama's Oia office did more defending of the staff that had access to the room than helping us with contacting the Police and making enquiries with the staff who happended to leave Santorini the same day as the phone going missing. Ecorama have since contacted us in a kindly worded email, thanks. So, BE WARNED, even though there appears to be little risk at Caldera Villa, use the in-room safe or take your valuables with you.

We were pleased to have you as a guest at “CALDERA VILLAS”.
We always welcome comments from our clients and we thank you for your positive comments. We would like to reply and clarify some of your comments.
After welcoming thousands of tourists every season we would like to let you know that we have never received an incident of a lost object. Our staff is very often used to the guests leaving such valuable objects as jewellery, cash, etc.
Permitting to your comment about the police, we did notify the local police the same day as you informed us. We found a couple of things peculiar.
1. There was a contradiction between family members as where the iPhone disappeared during the boat excursion or from the hotel room.
2. For reasons unknown to us, a report for your lost item was never filled ,and nobody ever showed up at the Local police station although you were expected after our phone call .
3. With respect we do wonder why the iPhone was not taken on such a special occasion as a boat trip to the volcano, considering the fact that according to your statement the iphone was with the kids on an everyday basis, as a camera except that particular day (according to the front desk statement the kids were practically attached with their equipment laptop/iphone keeping in contact all the time with friends/relatives ,as all youngsters do). We truly and strongly believe that the phone was not lost at the hotel premises.
We hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back at Caldera Villas and reverse your impressions. Assuring our best attention CALDERA VILLAS

This hotel is in a fantastic location in OIA, the scenery is beautiful, and the staff at the hotel was very welcoming and nice, and frequently asked us how everything was going. It has a cute little pool, the breakfast is adequate, and the rooms were clean. The only downfall was that the mattresses are very uncomfortable, at least in our room, and the sleep quality wasn't there because of this fact alone. I got up every morning with sore hips and a sore back. The kitchenette is nice, but there was no hot plate or stove to cook on, although they had pots and pans in the cabinet. No coffee maker. Since it is a cave room, the shower is not typical, as to be expected, it is just a hand held nozzle, but that is fine, since you are staying in a cave room. Overall, a great staff, great location, nice stay. I would recommend a couple nights in OIA, but I would definitely recommend staying in Firostefani, which is a great town within walking distance to Fira, where the hotels are cheaper and the rooms much bigger.
