“Heaven on Earth”

We stayed at the Tholos House from June 12-16, 2011. Our entire experience was memorable and we would never be able to list all of the positive attributes of this most beautiful place. The view is beyond compare and the accomodations were excellent. Atrina itself is very charming and it's location in Oia is great- serene, yet close to the town of Oia. The breakfast that is served on your private terrace is delicious and beautifully presented. All of the staff are very pleasant and go far beyond any expectations in their willingness to answer questions and make one feel welcome. Upon our arrival in Athens, we discovered that our luggage had been lost and we arrived in Santorini without it. Throughout this time, Athina (one of the owner's) did everything within the realm of possibilities to assist us in both locating our luggage and in getting it to us in Oia. When we returned to our room one afternoon following our daily excusion into town, our luggage had arrived and we then learned that she had arranged to have it delivered by taxi from the airport in Thira. A most thoughtful and appreciated gesture. Our wish would be that other travelers have the opportunity to experience and privelege to stay at this most wonderful place. Σας ευχαριστώ πολύ to all at Atrina Traditional Houses. Our memories will be life long and we will pray to return someday.

Room Tip: We loved the Tholos House.

Our family of five (2 adults and 3 kids ages 10-15) stayed here in Canava 1894 for five nights in June. Canava 1894 is a two bedroom villa with two bathrooms and a day bed type of arrangement for our fifth family member. It is the only place we stayed in Greece where the whole family could be in one room. The villa is simple and lovely, exceptionally clean and charming with a terrace that has a table which fits five and two additional lounges. The view from it (and any of the villas) is spectacular. Atrina is located right on the marble pedestrian path in Oia. It has a great location--not so far into town that it is congested and not so far out of town that you have to walk in the street to get to the pedestrian path. There is a small market just outside the gate to get essentials. Most of all though, Atrina has wonderful service for their guests. The women in the office are efficient and very warm and friendly. You receive a cell phone on check in with speed dial for the pool bar, from which you can order your breakfast (included in the price) every morning as well as speed dial to the office so that if you have any questions during your stay--no matter where you are, you can call and get help.

The breakfast was delicious and delivered within minutes of ordering. The staff--the attendant at the pool, the man who carried our bags everywhere and brought up our breakfast each morning, and housekeeping were all so pleasant and friendly. Our children were the only young kids there and were treated so kindly and with respect. On check out the staff essentially stood outside the office to say goodbye.

We will never forget our stay here--the kids didn't want to leave, and neither did we. Atrina was the best place we stayed during our entire trip to Greece and we stayed in some really nice properties. I would not hesitate to recommend this place. It is extremely special.

We spent 5 nights at Atrina recently to celebrate my partner's 40th birthday and couldn't have picked a better place to stay.
Atrina is located just after the start of the pedestrianised lane that leads into the heart of Oia. We found this ideal as it wasn't in the heart of the action, so quiet but still close enough to all the restaurants, shops etc. It also gave easy access out by road.
Reception is just a small room on the pedestrian walkway, from which you go through a gate down steps to the various rooms/houses. We stayed in Mina's House which was beautifully presented, and spacious both in terms of bedroom/lounge area and bathroom. The view across its own terrace with chairs and loungers, facing out towards the caldera, is stunning. Mina's is one of the lower rooms which we found to be an advantage as few other guests passed in front, unlike the upper rooms (check Atrina website for rooms layout picture).
The hotel manager Melanie was incredibly helpful throughout with lots of little touches which really helped us. I made contact in advance in order to make arrangements for my girlfriend's birthday, and liaised with Melanie over booking restaurants (including best table) and a suitable catamaran trip. We liked the mobile phone idea for any problems and for ordering breakfast when ready. By the way, you can order eggs and bacon etc if you feel the need, on top of the nice continental breakfast. The room had a supply of chill out CDs which suited the ambiance and Melanie kindly gave us free copies when we left. Also thanks to Nikos who carried the luggage and breakfast up and down all the steps! All this made you feel they couldn't do enough to make your stay perfect.
GENERAL TIPS:
1. Trips such as the catamaran (day or sunset) can be booked from the Caldera agency at the start of the pedestrian walkway a few moments away and the minibus collects from outside there. We liked the day trip with great BBQ lunch so much we then booked the sunset cruise on the other catamaran (though take a warm layer for the end of this one!)
2. Favourite restaurants - Fanari for great spot for sunset and tasty innovative menu; Sunset Taverna at Amoudi port below Oia - worth the visit for the 2 person lobster spaghetti special or various BBQ fish. Great location and atmos, though not cheap. The steps back to Oia will burn off anything you eat - not for the fainthearted!
We also enjoyed meals at Ochre (good for sunset, take a cardy for the balcony as can be breezy), Kyprida (some different dishes from the standard taverna fayre, and sunset views), Lotza (cosy wholesome taverna fayre), Petros (nice food but no sunset view - good for lunch).
3. Sunsets - an institution in Oia! Note that the sun sets on the opposite side of Oia to the caldera. Therefore from Atrina Houses you can see the pink sky but not the actual sun set (still fabulous). Crowds flock to the castle each night to watch so get there early if you want a good spot, but we preferred to find a good restaurant view. In June sun set is 8.15-8.30pm.
4. Fira - note that there are only 2 ATMs in Oia, both of which were out of action when we were there, so we took a local bus (half hourly from Oia bus station, 1.60 euros) into Fira the capital where there are plenty. Fira is nice enough, again with great caldera views, but swamped with cruise ship visitors, so not as relaxed as Oia. Cable car down to the port makes an interesting diversion, but nothing much down there.
CONCLUSION: Highly recommend Oia as a beautiful village, and Atrina as a great spot to stay.

Room Tip: Check Atrina website for accommodation layout.

We just got back from our stay at Atrina and we really loved it. The location is perfect. And I think it has the best view of any hotel on the island. Many hotels are situated lower on the cliff and thus there are lots of stairs to take to get down. But Atrina is located just off the main walk way where all of the shops and restaurants are but you don't hear any noise from the walk way so it still feels very private.
We stayed in the senior suite. It has 2 bedrooms and a huge sitting area which was more than enough room for my boyfriend and I. We thought that we had the best balcony of the entire place. It was private and had a table and 2 lounge chairs.
I was not sure if a pool was going to be necessary but I am so glad that they had one and it was a beautiful one at that. It gets very hot and it is so refreshing to take a dip. I was a little worried that there would not be enough lounge chairs but that was never an issue and if it ever was, you can always lounge on your private balcony.
Lastly, I read some reviews about the help/staff and how it is not full service. This is NOT true. We felt as if our every need was taken care of. The woman at the front desk was always available to book tours, offer suggestions and make reservations and book our taxis. I even left my jacket and a restaurant (Santorini moi- go there!! ) and she called to make sure they had it and would hold it for me. Also, you get breakfast delivered to your room every morning and it comes within a few minutes of your requesting it,. They bring water over to you at the pool and keep the entire property very clean. I could not have asked for more and will definitely be recommending this place to my friends and family when they visit Santorini.

Our stay here was very enjoyable. Views are incredible. Staff are very helpful. Breakfasts served on our deck were delicious. Having the cell phone to contact staff was very convenient. The rooms were very interesting, clean and well kept. The only down point was there wasn't much privacy within the house (there was 5 of us). The location was very convenient. I would definitely stay here again.

This hotel not only has a breathtaking view. The rooms are outstanding. They have thought of everything. They even have a selection of cds to choose from to add to the ambience. You are given a mobile phone for your stay in case you need assistance at any time. Breakfast is served on your own private terrace and is superb. We were greeted with a chilled bottle of wine and lovely note. The staff are very helpful and friendly. We tried to extend our stay but they were fully booked. However they still assisted us in finding other accommodation. We LOVED Atrina!!!

Atrina House was a great choice for our Honeymoon. We stayed in the Senior Suite, and enjoyed breakfast every morning on our private balcony.
I think of Atrina as more of a bed and breakfast than a hotel. They took great care of us, and were incredibly helpful in planning activities and getting hotel reservations.
A great feature was the cell phone that they provided us which had a speed-dial for both the front-desk and the pool/restaurant.
The hotel is conveniently located at the top of Oia, so there are very few stairs which can be a bother in Oia, but just a few minutes walk from anything in town. We struggled with which town to stay in on the island, but the choice is clear. Stay in Oia.
It is a hotel that we will definitely return to when we are back in Santorini.
