Great restaurant, lovely staff, hotel needs improvement

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Jul 2017via mobile
The restaurant at Anemomilos was fantastic both in terms of food and service. The hotel itself though needs some improvement. The pool ares is nice but the breakfast was very basic with not enough variety or good quality ingredients. We had a room down the road from the main hotel and the pool which meant we had to walk next to traffic whenever we wanted to go to the pool or get food - not ideal. The windows in the rooms are not double glazing which means any noise outside is heard, there's no sound proofing and we had really noisy neighbours which meant we didn't sleep very well. Expected a bit more for the price...

Oia is a beautiful area by itself! The main attraction of view points & shopping was 5-10 mts walking. Property on main road. Hotel vehicle available ,though at a cost. General store right opposite to property. Prompt staff. However no room service. Delay in restaurant services. There was no 'superb' sea view from the room as claimed. No umbrella to go to room in the next building from reception when it rained.

Stayed here for 10 nights in June.
Our apartment (room 204) was spacious and had two balconies, one which was shared overlooked the caldera and volcano and the other attached to our room has the best vantage point from which to watch the sunset. Pretty much the best views in Oia, and certainly on a par with some of the restaurant terraces which charge a premium for the same privelige!
The bathroom was slightly on the small side but adequate for two of us. The bed was comfortable and the day bed was useful as extra storage!!! The only niggle we felt could be improved was the kitchen facilities - we only had one electric ring burner and a fridge. A toaster would have been really handy given that there were limited breakfast options (although the restaurant within our hotel does offer a continental breakfast for an extra charge) The apartments are cleaned every day and towels/bed linen also changed daily. The pool is based up the road at the reception area and is quiet and has a lovely view over the sea.
You are located on the main road into Oia and as has already been stated on many reviews it is an extremely busy and quite precarious a walk into town and we found that after some trial and error that it was much better to leave walking into town until after the sun had set.
We counted 36 coaches leaving one night, literally one after another and it is a free for all mixed in with scooters, quad bikes and cars so it's safer all round to enjoy a glass of wine on your balcony and watch the beautiful sunset then have a leisurely walk into town for dinner.
If you fancy taking a boat ride to watch the sunset or to go to the hot springs then please try to book this outside of the main towns, we were quoted €130 each for a 6 hour cruise when friends of ours staying in kamari paid €39 each for an all day cruise leaving from Fira!!!!!!! I think the shops and some restaurants completely take advantage of the many cruise passengers and exploit them dreadfully, go off the beaten path and things are much cheaper. This is in no way a reflection of the hotel just a useful tip for anyone wanting to do the boat tour.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced, clean, well located base from which to enjoy your holiday in Oia then you really will not find anywhere better than Anemomilos. Comparing it to it's rather more expensive neighbours we felt we came off better. We had a wonderful time and would completely recommend it to our friends and family and I feel there can be no better compliment than that.

We stayed here for a week with our 2 young kids and had an incredible stay. The yellow themed villa we stayed in had 2 comfy single beds that doubled up as couches during the day and a big king bed. Beautifully furnished and amazing uninterrupted 180 defeee views of the Caldera, Fira and Oia. We enjoyed sitting in the spa in the afternoon overlooking breathtaking views and sitting on our roof at sunset where we could catch most of the sunset without the crowds. We were torn between eating in the lovely restaurants in the gorgeous town of Oia (5 min walk away) or staying at our place and self catering in our well stocked kitchen and eating on our balcony which we thought had better view than most restaurants in Oia.
The main hotel and apartments are on the other side of the road, 2 min walk away, and face the Sea. The "villas" are caldera side, and the upmarket offering. Sounds strange, but in Santorini, the sea view is not the view everyone wants on the island, unlike most places! The caldera view is breathtaking and where you want to be. We thought it was worth the extra money to be caldera facing - after all that's what makes Santorini special and unlike any other island!

The staff were great, daily cleaning (including spa cleaning) and fresh towels. Spiros the manager was very accommodating. One evening I had an accident in the room and emailed to let him know some feedback regarding how to amend the room so it didn't occur again. In part it was due to my clumsiness. He quickly called and offered to cover medical costs (which I didn't need but was kind of him to offer) and also has told me he has rectified the minor detail in the room which contributed to the incident by organising to make my suggested change. I was amazed at his concern and responsiveness.

A decent breakfast selection and good pool to relax in. Even had a shallow kids pool connected to the adults pool which was perfect for our family.

This hotel was also ideal for us because it had car parking, was not in the thick of it in Oia proper where it's all pedestrian only. We had a lot of luggage and two kids who can't walk very far. Anemomilos is just on the edge of Oia town which meant we got the gorgeous view of both Oia and Imerovigli and Fira, with the convenience of accessibility to our car to drive. And trust me - you need a car in Santorini to access the beaches and explore the large island. Buses and taxis are not very easy to navigate!

Additionally we were amongst the gorgeous cliff side white villas so had the same picture perfect feel you expect from Santorini.

Highly recommend Anemomilos villas. Try to book directly on their website and not broker sites as they charge very high fees which sometimes get passed onto the consumer. We learnt the hard way and paid about 20% more than if we had gone through the hotel directly.

It's just off the main drag so you're not in resort-central with a caldera view - this is a more laid back, budget friendly option that still has beautiful views, an awesome pool, and super helpful staff. Demetrius booked our boat tour when we arrived and sat down with us to give us recommendations about a winery to visit. They were accommodating with arranging rides and making a pack-and-go breakfast when we wanted to start the hike to Fira early in the morning. Would highly recommend if you're looking for a cheaper option or something good for a family that's slightly removed from the tourist chaos (but still centrally located). Restaurant was just ok - walk down the street to somewhere else for food.

Host Spiros could not do enough to make us feel comfortable. The restaurant was fine (we didn't do any breakfast at the hotel). Pool is high-grade. Room & service great. Great Creek hospitality.
A short, pleasant stroll to one of the best sunsets experienced worldwide.
