A great entrance and meeting site near Main Street. Take photos because the beauty is memorable. Love the blue dome!

A very scenic church, with many icones, marbles, lighters and nices views around.
Panagia means Maria, I think it's the church of Maria; a little jewell, nice to visit.

We arrived Santorini by cruise ship and were ferried ashore to the island before being bussed to Santorini on a snake-like road which I would have considered precarious in other circumstances. Santorini is a white city! Houses are built on the side of hills which themselves must have been relics of volcanoes in centuries gone by. By some concensus, virtually all the houses are painted white or built with whitish brick, It is almost blinding in the noonday sun. We drove to Oia and were stunned by the beauty of the Church of Panagia. Then we waded through shops where souvenirs were on sale. I bought a nice image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in one of the shops where the elderly shopkeeper was the very definition of courtesy. But there are other churches too, all domed in blue which is a kind of trademark for Greek Orthodox churches. We ran into several newly-wedded Chinese couples treating themselves to lunch at the restaurants. On enquiry, I was told that the island is very popular with young Chinese couples because the film titled "Lara Croft Tomb Rider: The Cradle of Life", was shot there. The view of the setting sun in this village is unbelievable. It is as if all the elements of nature have come to an agreement to dazzle the tourist. Young couples come here to begin their new life in an idyllic setting. There is a cable car station where we boarded a cable car which took us down to Fira for our return trip by boat to our cruiser.

We visited Oia for the sunset and called in to the church of Panagia . Such a lovely little church the main wall of the church which I would class as the altar area was beautifully inlaid with silver. This church is dedicated to Mary (Our Lady of Perpetual succour in English ) and there are many icons and pictures of dedication to her . There is one particular picture that has replica's of legs arms etc in silver from people who have had that particular affliction cured and have placed them there inside the picture glass. You are not allowed to take photos inside but because I spoke at length with the lady in charge she allowed me to take one photograph. This church is one you must visit when in Oia
