Have just spent an interesting 3 three nights here. Accommodation is in general terms very good, with some four or five swimming pools, and room complexes around the pools. The rooms are good - or at least the ones we had were - and the breakfast was great, but there are a few downers :

1) Not enough lighting in the room or bathroom
2) The hairdryer is useless
3) Evening Buffet Dinner food does not reflect the standard befitting a hotel like this
4) Smoking allowed in the Bar in the evening

Room Tip: Rooms away from the Main Road are better - suites 1-20 were good.

What a superb location! Poolside apartment - self contained and exclusive. Staff very helpful and eager to please. We arrived quite late, after delayed departure, but food was made available and all was well. Evening walk into Thira to enjoy fantastic sunsets, not to be missed. Day time, short walk to the bus depot and the whole island became available. Lots to see and do - visit to Old Thira (taxi to first base a must for us but able to walk the second phase) provided great views. Wedding breakfast was in the form of "sunset cruise and dinner" - fabulous.

Just returned from 2 nights stay at the hotel. Location is very central. Front office staff, Ms Elema is very attentive to customer's request which is commendable.

In terms of the rooms, I found the queen size double bed too small for 2 persons. I requested for a change in the room on the 2nd night and found the room with twin beds a lot bigger and with good facing - pool view.

It is a short walking distance to the public bus terminal which makes it very convenient for tourists to take buses to visit places of interest.

Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

My main appreciation for this hotel is that it is family friendly. Unlike most places in Europe we could get a single room for our family of five (three youngsters). The room was great, and worth the cost. Next best was location. It is a short, enjoyable walk into Thira from the hotel, easy enough for my young kids to handle well. We though breakfast was quite good, even though it seems others were unhappy (perhaps high expectations?).

We were there in off season (mid April) so maybe we just got great rates, but it was worth it for us. If you are there off peak, be aware the pools are beautiful, but not heated and crazy cold, so not really useable.

just returned from santorinni , and i stayed at the el -greco . i found the hotel really nice , and spotlessly clean , beautiful little individual rooms quite spread out around the hotel . lots of lovely seating areas , both around the pools and lobby and reception area, the lobby was beautifully decorated and was nice to sit in and enjoy the people come and go ,, i found the hotel to be in an excellent position for fira , prob 5 min walk at the most , hotel handy for bus station so you can travel round the island , the breakfast was nice with usual . continental options , i didnt have evening meals there so cannot comment , i found fira rather a little busy when the cruise ships come in , oia stunningly beautiful and a must see , overall a really plesant stay , staff welcoming and helpful , i could happily recommend this hotel ,

I was very impressed by the photos of this hotel on it's web site and when we arrived found the public spaces to be as beautiful as the pictures, but the rooms were shoe boxes, the pool unheated and the inclusive breakfast left lots to be desired. Spring is probably not a good time to go here. The site on top of a ridge means there are strong winds blowing, the pool is unheated and there are no nooks or crannies to shelter and enjoy the beautiful sun. On an island that is known for it's beautiful views, there was no view and our room, smack up against the bar was not great. The breakfast table had imitation juices in the land of wonderful oranges and the hot tables were tepid, making eggs problematic for me. As every where in Greece the yogourt was fantastic. The minibar was empty, so no possibility of a late night drink or snack. The people working here were lovely and very helpful, but beware of their car rental "deal" it was 10 Euros a day more expensive than the local rental outlets who will bring a car to the hotel for 30 Euros a day plus 5 Euros for insurance. Even with full insurance you're still on the hook for 500 Euros in case of an accident. It is a five to ten minute walk into down town Fira along a road with fierce winds but there are fantastic views down to the ocean below. All in all I wouldn't go back here, not very good value for the money.

Room Tip: I'm not sure ther is a good room, windows are tiny and if it is cold there is no heat.

This is our third time in a Greek hotel and first disappointment. The good things first:
Good location, 5 min. walking from the town of Fira. When you leave the hotel and cross the main street there is a nice caldera view. When you enter the town, there is a Carrefour, which is also very convenient. The rooms are spacy with good design, air-conditioning. The quys at the pool bar were very friendly, staff is helpful, when asked for something. We stayed at the most distant end from the reception.
The things that we didn't like... The pool that was in front of our building was quite dirty with leaves and a branch floating in it and nobody bothered to clean it for the six days of our stay. The main pool was quite clean though and I didn't get it why there is a different standard around the hotel area. The rooms - apart from the good design, things for a 4-star hotel were missing - like a shower cap for example, at least water at the mini bar, slippers, bath robes. There was one blanket at the wardrobe which smelled like sweat and we slept with a cover that I would personally only cover my bed, not use for sleeping. The wi-fi was poor, one morning we didn't have electricity for a couple of hours. The breakfast was basic, the restaurant was very crowded and one day we had to wait to get a table for breakfast. The thing that made me angry was the salty coffee that we got the last two days. The water that flows through the pipes at the hotel is purified sea water and is not meant for drinking - obviously it is quite normal for an island with no other water. But to use this water to prepare coffee for your guests, come on....
Although the beginning of May is a low season I don't think service should be neglected..El Greco is not a 4-star hotel in my opinion.
