“Great location, friendly staff, beautiful room”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2014

For our anniversary, we selected this resort for our 5 night stay in Santorini. The staff at the lobby were friendly, offered us water while we waited for the check-in. They even upgraded us from the standard room to a superior room for free. After check-in, We were driven in a golf cart to Room 28 (lower newer buildings to the right with own pool and breakfast restaurant), which was on the 2nd floor. The room was big with a king size bed, flat screen TV, big stand-in shower, modern decor, fridge, and a cute small balcony overlooking the pool area. The rooms were cleaned daily and i loved the smell of their little lotion bottles.

This resort is not one of the hanging-over-the-cliff hotels, but it was big and roomy. If you want a view of the caldera, you just need to cross the street. It was also just a 5-10 min. walk to the local bus station (if you want to travel to Oia, Kamari, etc), a supermarkt was within 5 min walk (we got a lot of snacks and water there), and the town center of Fira was all a short walk away. They also have a spa and gym, but we didn't use it.

We only ate at the restaurant once, they offer buffet-style dinner and also a-la-carte dinner. We only ate there once, since there are so many options in Fira to eat at local restaurants. Breakfast had good choices and was served at both restaurants from 7-10 am, we only ate at the newer restaurant for breakfast, since it was right in front of our building.

Wifi was free - we noticed, it worked best during the day. In the evening, it's super slow - since everyone shares the same connection.

Tip: use the local bus to travel to other towns. It's efficient, cheap and runs very frequently. As of May 2014, the one way trip to Oia or Kamari Beach was just 1.60 Euro per person. You pay on the bus, make sure to bring small bills or change with you.

Room Tip: Lower area buildings are newer and also quiet during our stay. Try to get a room on the 2nd floor fo...

Just had 6 nights. Terrible. Booked 2 rooms and when we arrived they tried to put us in a so called suite.
A room with an attic type bedroom with single beds- obviously a family room and it was situated right at the very far reaches of the resort.
After getting our 2 rooms we discover that there is no mattress on one of the beds, only a Base.
Rooms very substandard our bathroom has the toilet leaking all over the floor. First morning no hot water. Buffett breakfast very sub standard.
This property looks good from the outside but is basically a low grade 3 star property.

Room Tip: Try and get a room close to the restaurant area. Lots of stairs otherwise .

Got married from here four years ago (just the two of us). Thought we would return because we had such a fantastic time at Santorini and our stay at El Greco was lovely.

We stayed again in June 2014; first impressions was that still a great place to stay, lovely location and great staff. However, the first week was spoilt by a large noisy, ignorant WEDDING PARTY!!! who took over the swimming pools, sun beds and bar/snack area. We also requested a move from our superior room which we had requested and we had to accept a lower grade room in a quieter area.

The WEDDING PARTY had no respect for any other residents, which is something that has been highlighted by other reviewers. If the hotel does not act immediately about this problem loyal customers will not return.

Another major issue we noticed was that connected to these WEDDING PARTIES were large groups of people/relations staying at other hotels who were using the El Greco's facilities to the detriment of residents staying there.

We still love this hotel, but unless these issues are sorted out we will not be staying at the El Greco again and would not recommend it to other couples (hence our 4 star rating).

Room Tip: Don't go when there is a Wedding Party !!

We have just arrived home today having stayed 7 nights at el greco. We travelled to santorini for our wedding and had approx 30 friends and family staying with us at el greco. We thought the hotel is in the perfect location. An easy 5-10 minute walk into the busy centre. Just far enough to leave it behind but close enough to stroll in of an evening or during the day. The hotel is beautiful. It is spread out, quiet, relaxing, clean and well decorated. The spa was very good. You can hire the whole spa area for an hour for 4 people completely free! The pool and sunbeds etc were very relaxing and perfect to escape to with my bridesmaids before wedding preparations took place. We also had the chocolate wrap which was very enjoyable. Staff are all very friendly and helpful. Food in the pool bar was of a good standard (although service was a bit slow) but overall we were very pleased with the hotel and we will definitely be returning.
A little bit about fira and santorini. Absolutely stunning. Such a beautiful island. Fira is packed full of fantastic restaurants. We didn't have a bad meal. Prices are similar to the UK.
We went to oia one evening. Again, it is a stunning resort! Highly recommend restaurant 218degrees. So many restaurants to choose from with breathtaking views.
I will end by saying we will DEFINITELY be returning to Santorini and El Greco and will recommend it to everyone!

Stayed last 2 weeks in June in one of the superior rooms in the lower part of the hotel.Enjoyed the first week when there was a wedding party staying but were very nice people. The second week the wedding party from HELL arrived. Some staying in the superior rooms others elsewhere in the hotel. They completely took over the sunbeds and the pool. They were very noisy, heavy drinking, inconsiderate and intimidating. We chose to sit outside the backdoor of our room rather than the terrace because of the atmosphere. We complained to the hotel and they moved us to an inferior room in a quiet location but we lost half a day holiday in doing this.We then started to use one of the other pools where there was also a foul mouthed, noisy inconsiderate wedding party. This is a great hotel with lovely staff. Breakfasts are very good as are the lunchtime snacks at the poolside bar.Not impressed with evening meal but plenty of good restaurants in the town.i see somebody staying the same time as ourselves has posted similar comments. Also there is an earlier review complaining about these wedding parties.Would not stay again nor recommend which is a shame.BEWARE wedding parties.

Room Tip: Superior rooms in lower part of hotel IF no wedding parties. These are the best and newest,

Stayed at the hotel during the 2nd week in June for two weeks.
The hotel is well located within 10 mins walk of Fira along a picturesque walk that take in a stunning view of the coastline. The hotel reception is clean and stylish and the reception staff tried to be helpful.
Check in was relatively painless bearing in mind there was a lot of new arrivals at the same time. We were allocated room 520 which turned out to be a great room, very spacious with a modest balcony on the ground floor and had sun all day. The room was always clean and bedding and linen were refreshed daily. The room was located away from the main pool bar in a relatively quiet spot.
The resort had 5 pools, three large and two smaller more secluded pools. There was an in door pool and spa/gym which we didn't use. We generally frequented the larger pools through out the holiday depending sun bed availability. There was a usual dash for beds early morning before 8am so be prepared for an early start if you want a prime spot. We did notice that beds were reserved early but never used until well after mid day and the hotel need to address this in some way at busy periods.
The pool was often busy at lunch as the food was of a very good quality and reasonably priced. The staff were also very friendly at the pool bar. Beach towels were supplied by reception and exchanged daily if required.
Breakfast was available at two different locations at the hotel and we ate at both and they offered similar food. The breakfast menu offered a reasonable selection of local Greek, continental and full cooked selection. This was adequate for us although, the cooked selection was sometimes a little cold. We stayed bed & breakfast and can't comment on the evening meals, but we have written some reviews on local restaurant which were great.
The hotel offered WIFI facilities which were ok around the pools but hit and miss in the room and reception.
Facilities for late check out were a little disappointing as the shower facilities could have been significantly better for people on later flights. We did ask to retain our room into the afternoon but the reception staff were unable to help although our room wasn't cleaned until mid afternoon.
Overall the experience was good, but could have been better if the hotel improved the sun bed position (more beds around the pools) and better late check out facilities as this was our last memory of the resort.
