“Delightful Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 June 2012

Upon arrival at the Hotel Aigialos we were made most welcome and a brief rundown of the hotel and surrounding ares of interest were explained along with recommended restaurants. The location was very good with many excellent restaurants are within easy walking distance.
We were shown to our room. Kaikias House, which we were able to choose through the hotels web site prior to departure. Something that many hotels don't permit.
The room was spacious and quite immaculate in every way. We had an adjoining balcony where soon after arriving a selection of fruits and a bottle of chilled white wine were delivered.
Taking in the view was simply amazing. Each morning cruise ships would arrive and be moored below the hotel, just adding to the spectacular scene.
The staff and their attention to detail was first class, but at the same time they operated in a almost informal manner which made for a very relaxed but most professional atmosphere. One could not fault the service that was readily provided. We were very satisfied with every aspect of our stay at Aigialos Hotel.
Vivi and her staff provided a wonderful stay for our four days in Santorini.

We arrived at Aigialos Hotel on a hot afternoon after a long day of travel. We were picked up at the airport and greeted like family. We were immediately shown to our house (Voreas Mansion) where we were treated to cooling towels and a "spoon dessert" to refresh us while the check-in process was completed. The exhaustion and stress of travel just melted away. I was immediately struck by how cool our rooms were (even without the AC running) even though it was blistering hot outside. I think it is a combination of the thick walls, the marble floors and the windows designed to catch the breeze. It is so relaxing to be cool inside without the drone of an AC unit! (Note that the bedrooms do have air conditioning if the natural sea breezes don't cool it down enough for you.) As evening arrived, we were treated to a bottle of local wine on our private terrace overlooking the Caldera for an amazing view of the sunset. You will not find a more tranquil and beautiful setting. Breakfast is served either on your private terrace or by the pool, as you prefer, and is very good. Because of the way the property is arranged, we rarely saw the other guests, so the property feels very private. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful and you will definitely feel pampered. This is a wonderful place to stay on Santorini!

Room Tip: Voreas Mansion is private and beautiful with unbeatable views. It is on the edge of the property an...

This hotel is in an excellent location overlooking the caldera. Tha staff are so friendly and helpful. Rooms and facilities spotless and well maintained.
Although the weather in Fira during my stay was gale force winds I loved my time on the island and at the hotel.

When you first arrive here you are greeted at the airport by a member of the staff, and they manage to pamper you at every step along the way. The hotel is located in the main town of Fira, but is just a few steps away from the hub-bub so it offers a bit of quiet. The buildings of the hotel are in a converted nunnery, and the architecture is superbly Cycladic. Arches, alcoves, marble, antiques...even the pool offers a rare design delight - itis located where the nuns used to crush grapes by foot. The staff really goes above and beyond to make you feel like your happiness is important to them, and the personal touches are very nice. We stayed 6 nights here and wish we had been able to stay longer. Whether lounging in the sun on one of the many terraces or taking in a gorgeous sunset from our room overlooking the caldera, we were mesmerized and delighted from start to finish. Cannot say enough about the staff. Just AMAZING.

Hotel:
Not quite your typical "hotel", but then again I don't recall seeing any typical "hotels" anywhere in Santorini. Situated in Fira behind several winding streets. This hotel of 16 suites is nestled on a cliff overlooking the famous caldera. Just looking for the hotel will provide you with the most amazing view you've ever seen in your life. We were greeted with a traditional rose water drink with a spoon dipped in melted vanilla sugar. While being showed to our suites, the receptionist told us the meaning behind the names of our suites. We had a suite in Livas, which was a suite with a living room that connected into a smaller bedroom with 2 bathrooms; and also a suite in Sorokos, which was a 1 bed/1 bath suite a little above the Livas suite. It seems ALL their suites have the breathtaking views overlooking the caldera. Like I said above, these are not your traditional "hotel" rooms. The rooms are built into the side of the cliffs, and were used by a monastery long ago. Each room has an amazing and unique character...lock and latch doors, shuttered windows, etc., but still had modern luxuries like premium bedding, marble flooring, designer toiletries. One weird thing was that our Sorokos room still had a tiny CRT TV set from the 80s but honestly, I was preoccupied watching the view outside our window to even bother with the TV. Also with each room, you are presented with a bottle of a local Santorini wine along with a bottle of mineral water. This accompanies a plate of local fruits and nuts. You can choose to have breakfast in their beautiful courtyard where local herbs and flowers are grown, or you can choose to have it served to you on your balcony with an amazing view overlooking the caldera.

Staff:
A small, but personable staff. The manager, Vivi, seemed like she was always around overlooking the hotel and always there to help the guests with anything they might need or want. The beautiful and knowledgeable receptionist, Lamprini, was always readily available for any questions you might throw her way. Dimitris and Stayros were the multi-talented, all-around muscle. From serving, to being bell hops, these guys were prompt, knowledgeable, and sincere. The entire staff works extremely well together, and are there for any problem you might have. One thing that I noticed was the extremely personalized service you will get from them. They will identify you by name, and do everything they can to help you. Literally, anything you need, this staff will bend over backwards trying to help you.

Personal Thoughts:
If I can rate this hotel more than 5, I would. The hotel itself definitely lives up to its moniker by being a traditional luxury settlement, but the star of this hotel is definitely the staff. I have been in the hospitality industry for over 15 years, and the staff of this hotel still blows me away. It's rare to find people working in the hospitality industry who are genuine in their means who go out of their way to make sure you're happy. This, above all things, makes this hotel the gem of Santorini in my eyes. It was unfortunate for me to learn that most of the staff who works at Aigialos will change every 6 months or so because most of the workers are from a work program from mainland Greece. Judging by every review I've read of Aigialos, it seems that they only accept the best of the best, and this staff is no exception. I want to give a big thank you to Vivi, Lamprini, Loakeim, Stayros, Dimitris, and Chrysa, who made our stay at Aigialos the most memorable thing of our entire trip to Greece.

Note: We were informed that the manager upgraded our rooms to the next level up because we were lucky enough to travel right before the busy season. Thank you Vivi.

My wife and I have traveled internationally for business and pleasure for many years and at this point in our lives we are rarely surprised. The Aigialos Hotel was a very welcome surprise indeed. We booked the hotel for a week because we wanted to rest someplace beautiful and warm (we live in San Franisco) and we wanted to have a low key experience because we both work in stressful positions. Reviews of the Aigialos spoke of the friendly staff and beautiful setting. After one week, I can only say that the reviews are, if anything, underrated. The combination of dramatic setting, beautiful property, and extraordinary staff is unique in our experience. We didn't stay in a hotel, we lived among friends in a beautiful rambling property for a week. The food is fresh, local, and wonderful. We awakened each morning to the distant sound of goats on the hillsides and the clopping of donkeys walking along the cobbled narrow streets. And I ended the day with a glass of wine on our terrace overlooking the sun set behind the caldera. We even held a party to celebrate our anniversary with the staff. Magical. If you stay at the Aigialos, and you should, stay more than a few nights, or you will regret it. Thank you Vivi, Lamprini, Ioakeim, Giannis, Dimitris, Stayros and Chef Chrysa for your gracious and graceful hospitality. With gratitude, Sat Kartar & Roger
