“Wonderful location in Fira”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2010

We only managed to stay 1 night in Fira but luckily chose a beautiful hotel with wonderful, friendly staff. The rooms are very unique with tremendous views on to the caldera. The food was excellent, and it was so nice to have our breakfast on our balcony staring out to sea.
An excellent hotel, where all the staff made us feel very welcome. Highly recommended!

My wife and I decided to visit Santorini for her 30th Birthday, and we were delighted with the level of service, the beautiful rooms and view, and the great food. Not to sound snobby, but when we travel overseas (which is three to four times a year), we usually stay in 5 star hotels and resorts around the world and my wife an I are the first to admit - we are not easliy pleased and we make a lot of difficult requests. Therefore, being a very special vacation especially for my wife turning 30, I looked long and hard through other trip advisor reviews of hotels/resorts around Santorini when choosing Aigialos. And I am glad to say that I made the right choice.

We arrived in the hotel relatively late in the evening, and the kitchen stayed open late for us in serving us great food and hospitality. To be perfectly honest, the first room that we stayed in was very nice, but the bathroom was a little small. When we mentioned this to the Manager and asked if there were any other rooms available, to my surprise they offered us a free upgrade to an amazing room - Apilitios. This room was simply breathtaking, with an incredible view with a spacious living room and bathroom - and a balcony that you can sit and take in the most beautiful view. We stayed for 5 nights and we rented a car, and everything was about 20 to 30 minutes away by car (Oia and Kamari Beach) and a 4 minute walk to downtown Fira.

The hotel helped us arrange a car, a half-day sunset yaught cruise (which was incredible), and they really made an effort to make my wife feel very special on her birthday with flowers and a beautiful breakfast.

The only portion that lacked in this hotel, that would have made our trip even better was their pool facility. I love to sit by the pool and have drink while reading a book. Unfortunately, the pool is very small and it is right next to the entrance of the hotel and I did not see anyone in the pool. Therefore, if you are looking for a hotel with an infinity pool that overlooks the breathtaking views - this is not the place for you. I am actually one of those people that really enjoys lounging in the pool, but instead we drove almost every day to the beach and enjoyed the sun and water in that style.

We spent 4 nights at the Aigialos right after it opened for the season in May 2010. Because Aigalos is at the edge of Fira, it is very quiet and serene. It’s a picturesque 5- minute walk to restaurants and shopping. The caldera setting is dramatic day and night, with gorgeous volcano views and prime sunset viewing. Every morning and evening, we were delighted to hear the jingling of bells announcing the donkeys going down the path in front of our house and back up at the end of the day.
Eating breakfast on the lovely patio each morning was a complete delight. Through the welcoming red door, we had a view of the deep blue water and the volcano. Other tourists came by and took their holiday photos in front of Aiglialos. Our photos are so breathtaking that our friends can’t believe we came home.
Our dinners, made by the outstanding, creative and humble chef were fabulous. Each warm and professional member of the staff greeted us by name and did something extra to make our stay comfortable, special and memorable. The staff performs like a high-functioning and caring family, and we felt like part the family. It was so hard to leave.

Jean Pierre and his staff (especially Marina and Marie) made us feel like we were family coming to stay with them. The hotel is a few minutes away from the hustle and bustle of restuarants and shopping but the walk is not a hardship especially as the view along the walkway is staggeringly beautiful. We enjoyed personalized service from pick up at the ferry terminal, complimentary wine and fruits in our room to being shown to our room by the manager himself (Jean Pierre) which is not likely to happen at many hotels. We ate dinner one evening on our private patio which was very romantic. There was nothing they could have done to make our stay better. The only complaint I have is that the bed was very hard!

My wife and I just completed a trip through Greece for our 30th wedding anniversary and the stay at the Aigialos was the best part of the adventure. The rooms were simple yet elegant. The view took your breath away. The staff lead by Mr. John Pierre was excellent. They did everything possible to make the stay a dream to remember. Starting with the transfer from the airport to the feel of having our own personal chief ( it seemed like it ! ) this was fantastic. If I am every fortunate to travel to Santorini again, I will be staying at the Aigialos.

The staff at this hotel -- and I mean every last person -- was fantastic. Helpful, friendly, always pleasant and genuine. The in-house restaurant was great -- we only ate there a couple of times for dinner (hard to eat in the same place every night while on vacation in a place with all the choices this island offers), but it was very good both times. Innovative chef. Breakfast was very good, too. Not buffet style -- the kitchen will prepare you as little or as much as you desire. They always had a freshly made jam or compote made with local ingredients (citrus, grapes, etc.) to make it memorable. Fresh orange juice. On a day I had to leave extra early for a dive trip, the kitchen went out of their way to prepare me a continental breakfast with juice and coffee, well before the kitchen was open. The various buildings cover several levels and feel very historically authentic. The grounds are nicely kept, with several outdoor sitting areas for viewing sunsets, relaxing, sipping local wine, etc.

When we think back on this trip, we will think of the great people at Aigialos as much as the wonderful island itself. We are thankful to the Aigialos staff for making our trip all the more memorable in an already special place. If your travel experience is about more than just a checklist of amenities and includes befriending people and learning a thing or two, this is the kind of place for you.

Constructive criticism: The beds, while supportive, are hard (for us, anyway). A foam topper or plush mattress pad would go a long way to alleviate this. Also, the rooms (or at least ours), could benefit from the addition of a comfy upright chair or two for reading/relaxing. Or, since there were two day beds in the main room, maybe a couple of giant pillows so one could sit on the day beds with something to lean back against.

My husband and I were ferry riding last year in the Greek Islands before the peak season and just taking our chances on finding good accommodation on each island we visited. Our good fortune lead us to this wonderful hotel in Fira, overlooking the Caldera. The owner and his entire staff were extremely generous and helpful. The room was clean and spacious, the adjacent deck for morning coffee was post card perfect and the food was incredible! What more can you ask? Pricing - because we were travelling in the "off season", the room rate was a little negotiable! I wish we could add photos but we are travelling again and our email server will not allow us to do so remotely.
