I cannot rave enough about LOUCAS HOTEL in Fira, Santorini island! Just got back last weekend from 12 days of "Spring Break" in Greece. WOW! The highlight of our family vacation was Santorini. We truly enjoyed this hotel despite getting cut short due to the Ferry Strike that begun on April 10th, 2012. LOUCAS HOTEL is located in a mighty fine spot of the Fira village on the edge of the caldera. Lots of stairs but HEAVEN ON EARTH is worth the climb up & down! We had JUNIOR SUITE 17 - perfect for a couple and our 11-yr old daughter. It has a king size bed and further into the cave room is a twin bed. The jacuzzi tub & shower was relaxing after days of walking. Having a veranda & "private" gate at our doorstep made for some of the most spectacular views in the much-awaited SUNSETS OF SANTORINI and in the FULL MOON (we were uber fortunate to catch bright moonlit nights!). Breakfast was not fancy but did the job to get us going with energy to rent a car, climb steps and shop around, walk on black-"sand" beaches in KAMARI, climb more steps to see yet another longer-lasting sunset in Oia village at the northern tip of the island. Jeremy was very helpful and other staff when we needed some extra sheets, blankets and information about the ferry strikes. WI FI connection was tough in the cave room but we managed as long as we sat at our veranda or by the window. The disco at night can be heard but WE DID NOT MIND at all. We were on vacation and the island was alive in Spring! We will return to Loucas Hotel again next time we find ourselves in Santorini! NOTE: pool was not filled due to the Port Authority not allowing it until late April throughout the island.

Room Tip: Choose rooms far down -- halfway and towards the pool.

Santorini was not in our plan when we visited Athens last May after retirement, but was persuaded to go by an excellent tourist owner (we thought) when we walked in the Parliament Square, and we remembered what our kids said about this island.

The trip would have been perfect if not for the sleepless night we had. We checked into room 23 and were totally absorbed by the beautiful scenery that met our eyes, on way down the terrace to the room, through the window on the wooden door etc. What we did not realize was a bar sitting right on top of this room.

We went to bed at ten, but could not get any sleep at all and we complained to front desk asking. No help. The bar was SCHEDULED TO CLOSE AT THREE IN THE MORNING, which it did but only at 3:20.

The nest morning we questioned why we were assigned such a room, we got the unsolicited compliment that we looked young. The hotel was not full at the time we checked in as we noticed a young couple arrived after us and they looked fresh that morning.

What added salt to our wounds was when we had breakfast everybody just walked into the room and nobody asked for room keys. We wouldn't mind showing room keys as this is the norm everywhere else. But when we were about to finish, we were the only couple being asked openly for room keys in front of all other guests.

We made a formal complaint to the hotel owner (whom we later found out was exactly the same person which asked for our room key). He offered a free stay for us if we would visit the place again in 2012, and judging from what happened in Greece and western Europe the return trip looks unlikely.

The best location right in the center of Fira, fantastic view, polite staff and reasonable prices.
The rooms are clean and comfort and we would love return in the future.

Stunning views, large and attractive ‘junior suite’ ( including a jacuzzi), friendly and helpful friendly staff. This amazing, sparkling white hotel on the edge of the caldera was luxurious without being pretentious. Like most aspects of the town, it is expensive, but we booked early and paid less. It is not your typical 4/5 star hotel ( ie virtually interchangeable with the others in the same category around the world. ) It is a quite unique and special Santorini experience.
Breakfast overlooking the caldera, before the heat sets in, was a fantastic way to start the day. Evenings were equally beautiful. The view alone was worth the price of the room.
Be aware that there are many steep stairs, and pool and restaurant require a climb up or down. Through the middle of the steep incline is a flat path where the donkeys and tourists head up or down to the harbour below. But they don’t pass often and when they do they make you smile.
Extraordinary, quirky and charming hotel.

With a location right on the caldera in the heart of Fira and on the donkey path, the Loucas Hotel was perfect for 3 couples in their 50's. The many steps between rooms are not suitable to those with mobility problems but the average person can cope OK. The views are worth it!
A quick call to the hotel by our transfer driver ensured the fantastic services of two porters to carry the bags and walk us to the hotel from the nearest vehicle acess area. Most hotels in this part of town are only accessible by foot but it's definately the spot to be! The hotel staff are very helpful and organised an amazing sunset dinner at a rooftop restaurant in nearby Oia for our anniversary. Nothing is too much trouble. The hotel prices are extremely good value. The basic room is bigger than many others in Europe, spotlessly clean, plenty of hot water and efficient airconditioning. Two of our rooms were upgraded so we can also recommend the cave room and the junior suite. (bigger balconies to watch the sunset as a group) The nightclub didn't bother us, we were out til late most nights as we embraced the local customs of an afternoon siesta, drinks during sunset and a late dinner. Nearby supermarket sells everything from wine to toothpaste and at very cheap prices.

Room Tip: As the township and reception are located at the top of the hotel, if you want less steps then ask f...

this place was a lil hectic to find as they dont have signs when you are walking down the caldera cyclades...but we asked a lady and she pointed us.. mind you the taxi will drop you off further away as they cant fit on the small roads. So we drag our bags down and then check in... we upgraded just to get a lovelier bed so our room was cute cave like with queen bed and extra single bed... bar and lovely tub we enjoyed staying there a lot no internet inside the rooms fyi. Loucas himself is great so is Jeremy.

VIEW IS AMAZING but get ready to go up and down some steps in FIRA :)

We, as a group of six adults have just returned from the Loucas hotel in Santorini, and have to say it was fantastic!! The views (the reason we picked this hotel) were amazing!!!! the staff, from the manager, Jeremy, to the porters who carried our case up and down the steps, were polite and very helpful. The rooms were spacious and very clean and all different as it is built in a cliffside. The town was right behind the hotel which offered many resturants, but the Aris resturant attached to the hotel served delicious food and the staff were great! The only downside was one couple were given room 23 far to noisy, but there was no problem changing rooms which the staff did for them while were were out for the day. Overall we would say well done everyoune and thanks for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: Say no to rooms 22 and 23!! unless you are young and enjoy disco music!!
