That sounds like a tongue twister :)
The magnificent much talked about sunset from the Oia village of this Greek Caldera Island has a magic pull. Everything I had read or seen of this place was about the beaches, summers, sunsets but as luck would have it I got an opportunity to come here only in Dec-Jan. It breaks your heart to see every hotel closed during winter months and as I searched more on the net, found out that the island is empty during winters, barring a few thousand locals and tourists you can probably count on your fingers! Its cold, raining and most of the places are closed.
But I am glad we decided to still go ahead with our plan.

We were suggested to look for a place in fira, the town center. Found Pelican most suitably located, having its own bar/restaurant so food gets taken care and very well. One of the staff there helped my husband plan a surprise dinner with cake, music & sparkling wine(on the house) for my bday just after the new years eve. Breakfasts with the greek yogurt, local fruit preserves and honey were superb.

The reality conforms with the positive reviews on tripadvisor. The rooms are basic, clean, keep you warm. The staff is pleasant and very helpful. Danae gets a special mention and thanks because even in her last trimester she did her best to attend to our requests. The night shift staff didnt understand english very well though and I had a difficult time explaining to him when I wanted another blanket but I am not complaining.

There is a tavern right across the street that has great food and service as well. There are all kind of shops you would expect on a small island, nearby. Bus stop is just behind the hotel. But the best way to explore is walking. And one thing you will miss is the touristy buzz and open stalls selling curios and souvenirs. For all of that you have to come in summers and I hear its too crowded and hot and you have to share the streets with the mules.

Sea can be rough at this time so we flew from Athens. Andreas from budget rent a car agency gave us a great suggestion. He said 'go to Sento Wines for it offers a beautiful sunset view point'. Its on the cliff around Athinios port. After a night of hailstorm, I thought we were fortunate to be able to watch a golden sunset. The free wine tasting, an incentive!

Its a small island but offers such diversity in terms of beaches, you have red, black and pebble beach all very close. The hotel offers assistance with booking the rental car, boat trips and other activities. We just explored the island driving around and walking through marbles(streets as the locals call it) of Oia in North and the winding streets following the shape of the hills in South villages.

Great convenience and value for money!

Room Tip: Road facing first floor rooms are good in winters. Sun peaks in and you can see the moon over the Ae...

Very nice hotel in the centre of fira and close to everything that we needed : bus station, taxi station, bars, taverns and super markets. The room was very clean the breakfast complete and everything was working perfect. The stuff was friendly, helpful and makes us feel really comfortable. The ideal choise for anyone who want to visit santorini and stay close to the centre.

Both my husband and I had a wonderful experience in the Pelican hotel which felt like home! The people there were very welcoming and spent more time helping us with information and any other matters we had questions with. The entire staff went out of their way to make us feel comfortable and were very friendly! The rooms were very clean always and the food in the open garden was excellent as well as the ambiance! We will certainly recommend it to all our friends and family!

Room Tip: The higher floors have brighter rooms and are quieter.

We arrived at Pelican Hotel late at night moving from another hotel that had lots of problems (no heat was just one of many problems). We are so glad we moved and right away warmed up. Valentina greeted us at the desk and made us feel welcome. We were there over the Christmas holiday and they made it special for us over the holiday at breakfast and sweets in the evening. When no laundromats were open Valentina offered to help us with the laundry there at the hotel. There was always someone there to help us if we needed something or had a question about exploring the island and it was usually Valentina. I hope she reads this review to know how much we appreciated her and the Pelican Hotel.

I and my camera crew arrived end of May to Pelican Hotel. We came to film a documentary on an apnoe-diver who aimed at achieving an new world-record in apnoediving: 8oo feet was the goal. Apart from the regular services of an hotel: rooms very clean, excellent food in a wide garden below firas old town and professional treatment we were helped in a way wich is much more than just a fine accomodation. Unfortunately the diver - by reaching this depth - suffered from a serious accident and the hotel and the owners offered any help to find authorities and to make the filmings possible. Apart from that we were given the best advices were to find locations for marvellous beauty-spots. And, last not least: The Pelican Hotel probably has the most attractive junior-chief (Marina) of the whole island ;-).
So, if you get there enjoy the time and drink some wine on my behalf.
Best,
Christian May

I loved the hotel. The rooms were clean and the service was always friendly. As soon as somebody had a problem, they tried to help to solve the matter in the best way, even when it had nothing to do with the hotel stay itself. What a liked best, however, was the breakfeast and the possiblity to take it at the restaurant just beside the hotel, which has a big terrase. I would stay again here.

Had a three night stay there with a friend. Great value for money and in a fantastic location just metres from the fira town centre. Wifi was free and the staff were all very helpful and friendly, telling us the authentic Greek places to eat and all the spots to go out. Would definitely stay there again and recommend to others.
