“Good location, great views and very friendly staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013

Stayed with a group of friends for a 40th birthday at this friendly family run hotel, just at the edge of Fira village. The staff were extremely helpful, and offered great advice and tips on places to eat and visit across the island.

Great views from the front of the hotel across the caldera (submerged volcano crater) to the other islands that make up Santorini. Ask for a volcano view room at the front of the hotel to make the most of it. There's a good pool at the back of the hotel - quiet, plenty of space and sunny throughout the day.

The hotel is just outside the village - literally a few minutes walk to the cliff front, the village centre, the supermarket and the bus / taxi station. It's on the main road into Fira, but the noise isn't a distraction.

Would absolutely recommend.

Room Tip: Volcano view rooms at front of hotel - second floor. There's a really good view across the calde...

This traditional-style hotel is delightful. It feels like a guest-house more than a hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are comfortable (although the beds are really firm). If you get a room on the upper floor facing the volcano, you will see the most incredibly beautiful sunsets. This side of the hotel is right on the street, so it will be noisy but worth it if you like to watch the cruise ships come in, the tourists walk by, the donkeys ride by, and all sorts of vehicles - scooters, motorcycles, cars, buses, bikes, you name it!

Room Tip: Get a top floor room facing the volcano so you can see the sunset. Street noises, but if you close...

My boyfriend and I stayed for five nights and loved the place. They helped us rent a four wheeler to get around on, told us good beaches to check out and brought me hot tea when I got a cold! Not to mention, the location is perfect. You can easily drive to many different beaches durung the day, but at night you're walking distance from all the great restaurants in Fira.

This family owned and run hotel was a gem. Very clean with a lovely pool. The owners went out of their way to accommodate our plans. (They even had an ATV delivered to the hotel and since we were there on Easter, ask us to join them at their church) It is located on the edge of town; only a short walk to shops and restaurants. We considered booking one of the expensive places overhanging the view, but, I am glad we did not. We got the full Santorini experience and can apply that significant savings to our next trip.

The staff is very helpful and friendly. The hotel is very close to Fira Town and an inexpensive supermarket is just down the road. Our room had a great view of the volcano. We asked for extra pillows which was given to us immediately.

Stayed in the Astir in May, '13. Hotel is very new and the location is ok. The breakfast is adequate, but not the best. The only really bad news about this hotel are the beds and pillows. The beds are way too hard(like sleeping on the ground). The pillows are like rocks. We had to use the extra blankets for pillows. This would be a reallyl nice place if the breakfast was updated and they put better bedding in the small but nice rooms.

Room Tip: Ask for room overlooking the caldera. Spectacular view.

We love Greece and intend to eventually experience as many islands as we can. Santorini did not disappoint us. It is even more beautiful than the photos suggest and The Hotel Astir Thira is a great place to spend a week as a base. The Hotel is ideally positioned just on the road out of town with a short stroll (5 mins) to the bus station. The rooms at the front of the hotel provide an amazing view of the Volcano, and it was beautiful to sit and watch the evening sun dip down to the west sometimes providing vivid colours while sipping a glass of wine on the small but clean and comfortable balcony. The main road is also on the front so a little road noise can be a problem if you like to leave the window open, But not necessary as there is an AC unit provided for your comfort.
Each day you will hear the donkeys pass by your window on the way to/from work! Their task is to carry passengers up/down the winding path to the harbour far below. Nice photo opportunity.

The hotel is beautifully clean with lovely staff who cannot do enough for you. Breakfast is very simple, but probably all you need to set you up for the morning stroll to town or your chosen excursion.
Would definitely stay again and could recommend to anyone who appreciates value for money.
Thank you to the staff for making our stay so pleasant and memorable.
