“Villa Evgenia - a lovely, classy, very affordable hotel for choosy travelers.”
Reviewed 4 May 2010

I will confess that I am picky, and relentlessly scour the internet when choosing hotels or restaurants, poring between the lines of the reviews, and squinting at photos on websites, in order to ferret out the very best options. The Villa Evgenia appeared to have everything we needed - a great price, clean rooms, good location, and friendly service. My college daughter and I arrived late in the evening at the Santorini airport near the end of a month-long trip through Europe to be greeted at the gate by George, Villa Evgenia's manager/host extraordinaire. He couldn't have been more welcoming, and when we checked in it was evident that he was intent on providing exceptional and attentive service to his guests. Our twin room was spacious, very clean, with fridge, desk, tv, safe, and remote temperature control - and offered many places, including a large wardrobe, for storing the contents of our suitcases. We had a private balcony (thoughtfully outfitted with table, chairs, and a retractable clothes drying rack,) with tall, painted blue shutters that very sufficiently blocked out the early morning streaming sunshine, until we were ready to throw them open and bask in the sweeping view that stretched out across the rural landscape to the Aegean Sea, with an island floating in the distance.
The Villa Evgenia is a tremendous bargain that does not cut corners. The pool area is elegant and first-class, and we only wish that we had had more time to spend there, sprawled out with a book. The walk into town (and the local bus station) is very convenient, there is a mini-mart very close-by for bottled water and necessities, as well as a full-service laundry, and numerous atv/scooter rental places. Everyone we encountered was helpful and extremely friendly. We very much enjoyed eating at "Mama's House" in town, sampling one yummy dish after another over several meals - the Fava Bean Puree is delectable and feathery-light!
We very, very enthusiastically recommend a stay at the Villa Evgenia, as it more than met our expectations. It is so rare to find such an affordable establishment that truly caters to the every need of their guests. Among the many pluses, they cheerfully provide free airport transfers, even at inconvenient times when most hotels would steer you to the nearest taxicab. Villa Evgenia is a homey oasis of calm and elegance, and George runs a truly outstanding hotel.

Arriving in a strange place in a foreign country usually means navigating through local people trying to offer your rides and great deals. You do not know who to trust. We booked in the Villa Evgenia before arriving in Santorin, and waiting at the dock was George who is the young and dynamic owner of Villa Evgenia in Thira. The location is great, and so are the views and the facilities. Everything is clean and the bright Greek sun reflects off the white adobe buildings. We loved it and highly recommend it.
We found the price was reasonable and George is always eager to help you get adjusted; will arrange any tour available; gives you a good over view of the island's attractions and calls his friend Tony to rent a car (25 Euros a day in April of 2010) or an ATV . Tony delivers the car. We toured the island, ate at great Greek and seafood restaurants and enjoyed the sunset at Ola along with other sun worshippers. Ola is spectacular with its many blue-roofed churches punctuating the white adobe buildings that cascade down the cliffs. The crowd watching the sun set was a cosmopolitan group from all corners of the globe that reminded me of era of Hair” “Let the Sun Shine In.”
But our trip was made all the better by George, the young enthusiastic owner of Villa Evgenia. He is trained in the hotel business and this, along with his friendly and helpful nature, means that he knows what to do and responds to his guests. While we were there, he had his wireless internet boosted in response to complaints that the signal was too weak. Now it is strong.
We had to leave at 5:30 in the morning to be at the Santorini airport by 6:00. George offered to drive us, even at that early hour. However Tony said that we could keep the car and extra half day, (no extra charge) and leave it at the airport with the keys under the mat. George could sleep in a bit. Wow, it was nice to be in a place where people trust each other.

My friend and I stayed at Villa Evgenia during a much-anticipated European vacation and after exhausting our feet in Rome, we were astounded to arrive in Santorini and see how beautiful Villa Evgenia was. Every room has a balcony, the beds were comfortable, the pool and breakfast areas were very nice. It is a 10 minute walk into town, but less than a 5 minute walk to a place where you can rent motor scooters, cars, etc. The WiFi did not reach completely to our first room, so it depends on how close you are to the office, but they have a comfortable outdoor seating area where I would check my email. From the balconies you hear all these Santorini sounds: roosters, birds, a car with a megaphone, the jingling bells of donkeys being walked past. George Katsipis is animated and helpful: when our flight got cancelled due to the volcanic ash, he ran and poured us 2 glasses of sweet wine his father makes. Due to the ash, we ended up staying 6 nights and in that time we walked all over Fira, took trips to see Oia's sunsets, ate incredible food and did great shopping. It was a pleasure staying at Villa Evgenia and I would genuinely recommend it to anymore.

We stayed for at Villa Evgenia for 4 nights in August 2009 and I have to say it exceeded both of our expectations! As other reviews have mentioned, George the owner and operator is simply and awesome guy. He kindly picked us up in his car from another hotel where we stayed. Upon arrival at the villa, the room was not ready for us, so he sat us down and offered us drinks and cakes. Needless to say we were quite bewildered at such a nice treatment - never in our wildest dream we expected this.

The room we stayed in was a bit old but clean, and was cleaned every day. We spent a lot of time lounging at the fantastic pool with the cafe del mar music. George even offered us wine (for free). He also recommended us the different places to go and eat (he introduced us to his cousin's place by the beach which has fantastic seafood pasta!). There was an Internet room where we can check our emails, there was a sign showing the cost but George did not want to take any payments from us!

On the last day we wanted to take the bus to the airport, but George insisted he will send us there (although he had to send another couple to the ferry port). We didn't want to trouble him, and George kindly dropped us at the bus station instead. A truly hardworking and pleasant young man!

So, if you're not fussed about the caldera view and on a budget, this place is definitely recommended!

Head staff person George Katsipis took very good care of our family during our stay in Santorini in mid March 2010. Every activity and restaurant George recommended to us turned out to be a winner! George even went out of his way to deliver our family to our departing Blue Star Ferry. We could not think of a more family oriented place to stay. Our son commented that the hotel was cozy, just like home!

Located on Fira, 8 min walking from center and restaurants.
George the manager is always willing to help, wich makes everything easier on a country with such difficul language for me.
If you're planning to spend about 40 euros per night this is the place.

Villa Evgenia was fantastic! It's basically a one-man operation, aside from the cleaning crew - George Katsipis, the director, handles everything you could ever need. He picked us up in Fira when we arrived, arranged for transport to our departing ferry, found us an ATV rental place, walked us through a map of the island and what to see, told us where to get laundry done ... the guy was really on the ball.

The hotel itself is very nice, with a lovely pool area and spacious, clean, elegant rooms at GREAT value. It's far enough outside of Fira to avoid the noise, but still only a short walk away. All in all, a really ideal, perfect place to stay. Really contributed in a wonderful way to our spectacular, romantic experience on Santorini.
