“Great Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 February 2011

We shared a 3 bedroom 'tupa' (a small cottage). The beds were comfortable, the living room had a wood burning stove that was already set to be lit, a fully equipped kitchen, a bathroom with a shower and all was spotless. There were no problems with heat or hot water.

The family and staff that run Lapland were uniformly friendly and helpful.

The cross country skiing trails are immaculately groomed and tracked for both traditional and skating style skiing. Trails are available for all levels of skiers and there are snowshoe trails also. The restaurant and snack bar have Finnish specialties along with American fare. Though we didn't try it, the warming lodge has a sauna for overnight guests. For day visitors there are little touches like plenty of tissues for running noses in the lodge, a shower room (bring your own towel and supplies) for a small fee and clean bathrooms.

Can't say enough good things about this place in general, and one specific item worth calling out for praise is the quality of the grooming. As a pretty fit skate skier I am somewhat fussy about the grooming. Suffice it to say that they nailed it. There were a few inches of new snow while we were there, and it was awesome to be on fresh corduroy. Can't wait to go back!

My first trip to Lapland Lake Nordic Vacation Center was pure joy. Our "tupa" (cottage) was adorable, the staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful, the cross-country ski instructor was fabulous, the Finnish food delicious, and the scenery spectacular. Plus, I really liked seeing the reindeer. I'll definitely be going back, often!

We just got back from our trip to Lapland Lake, and had a wonderful time. The staff was extremely professional and courteous and they went out of their way to make us feel at home. The accommodations were comfortable and in perfect location for ski-in ski-out convenience. The owners, Olavi and Ann gave us personal attention regarding our equipment and facility questions. The cross country ski trails are immaculate due to Olavi's masterful grooming techniques. Lapland Lake is a class act and it will definitely become a yearly tradition for our family.

I loved the quiet and the midwinter conditions. We've stayed here summer and winter and it would be difficult to say which is better. Tupas are charming!

My husband and I just returned extremely relaxed and rejuvenated from a 4-night stay at Lapland Lake. Ann and Olavi and their staff are welcoming and gracious hosts, and were always on hand with helpful suggestions for daily activities, including a chance to play kyykka, (a Finnish ice bowling-type game played in teams) on Woods Lake with other guests. The grounds are stunning - nestled away in the southern Adirondacks, we had a chance to hike through the impressive woods along the well-marked snowshoe trails. There are extensive snowshoe/hiking and cross-country ski trails to discover right on the property. We also skated on Woods Lake, a part of which the staff had meticulously swept of snow. It was also possible to ski along the perimeter of the lake. We stayed in a 2-bedroom "tupa", a self-catering wooden cottage with a wood-burning stove, kitchenette and bathroom with shower stall - it could sleep six, but was very cozy for two. At night it was absolutely peaceful and quiet. The highlight of our trip was the daily visit to the traditional wood burning sauna, with separate times for men and women. My husband and I are sauna aficionados and have visited facilities all over Sweden and Finland, and this one rates one of the best! We look forward to our next visit.
