“Great place to stay in Old Forge”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2013

My friends and I go to Old Forge for a weekend every year and stay at the Forge motel. The rooms are always very clean and the staff is extremely friendly and helpful. We love it that they have WIIFI access in all the rooms. The view is beautiful and I wouldn't stay any where else. The furnishings could stand some updating, but with that view who cares.

First off, this place is somewhat dated. The rooms were probably 80's vintage. But you hopefully aren't hanging out in the room anyways. The location is perfect. Right in the center of town. We were in the upper building, overlooking old forge pond. Great view. Sliding doors with adirondack chairs. The rooms are plenty big enough. Bathrooms are not bad. Lobby appears to have been updated recently. Very nice with indoor pool. Continental breakfast was sufficient, not huge, but it provides an option other than eating out and spending money. The only place I would guess is nicer is the Waters Edge, but at 2-3-4 times the cost. And the Forge still has better location to town, unless you are just there for EF/WS. I would recommend the Forge to anyone.

We stayed at the Forge Motel while we were in town for a wedding. It is an "old style motel" - as is most lodging in Old Forge. The room was very large with a great view of the lake. We had adirondak chairs right outside our sliding glass door. The bathroom is small but has separate sink area. Shampoo/conditioner were provided but No hairdryer and No iron in the room. We were able to get an iron from the office. TV is very small - but we spent very little time in the room. A continental breakfast is provided in the main lodge area - Coffee/juice, good bagels, packaged danish/muffins, bananas, fruit cups. The patio off the pool is very nice for enjoying morning coffee while overlooking the lake. The location was a highlight - the motel is walking distance to boat/kayak rentals, beach, scenic boat cruise, Enchanted Forest/Water Safari, and the restaurants/shops in town. The staff was friendly and helpful and our room & bathroom were very clean.

Room Tip: We stayed in a room next to the lodge office which is a nice location for the view but you do have t...

Stayed here for the first time while here on business. 1950's style family run motel. Rooms are outdated, but clean, large and very convenient to the public beach, and many Old Forge attractions. Water pressure in the shower is fantastic, and the beds are very comfortable! Rates are reasonable, and there is a continental breakfast set out in a beautiful Adirondack style room adjacent to the indoor pool. One to consider if you are visiting Old Forge.

Ranking this hotel against every one I've ever stayed in, I give it a three. But, ranking it against the Old Forge hotels, it's a five. Easily the nicest hotel I've stayed in in Old Forge. It was clean, comfortable, huge rooms, great view, nice people on staff and had wi-fi. It's very basic -- you get soap and towels in the bathroom, but bring your own shampoo and hair dryer. No coffee pot in the room, but we always travel with our own, so that was no big deal. The beds were comfortable, but might be too soft for some people. Breakfast was a basic continental, just as advertised -- coffee, tea, juices, plus english muffins or bagels for toasting. There was also a basket of packaged pastries and Dole fruit cups.

Our room was quiet -- the snowmobilers starting coming into town on our third night and we never heard a peep from them, which is something I definitely could not say about another local hotel where we were kept awake all night by revelers.

One day during our visit, I dropped my credit card on the sidewalk in town and, as it happens, an employee of the hotel picked it up. She recognized my name on the card as a current guest and raced back to the hotel, even though it was her day off, to return it to me before I noticed the loss and cancelled the card. I hadn't even realized it was missing before I had it back. I regret that I didn't get her name, but it speaks to the kind of people that work at the hotel that she took that kind of effort to return my card to me.

If you like value and don't mind trading amenities for the fabulous view from the hotel, this is the place for you, especially in the off season when the price drops dramatically. We will definitely stay again on our next winter visit.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper terrace, say 13-18, have a great lake view, but are a little farther from the...

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your stay. Feedback from our guest is very important to us, as it helps us to improve. We are constantly trying to upgrade our rooms. We have just replaced most of the beds with two queen size beds, and have replaced all the bedding as well. We have also replaced most of the televisions with 32 inch flat screens. I have personally spoken the the staff about there actions and this will not happen again. We do offer coffee in our office during our continental breakfast. Thank you for you suggestions, and we hope to see you again soon.

Staff wonderful, friendly, helpful. We stay twice each year and more if we can arrange it. We love the lower level. Love sitting out by back by the lake. Close to everything. We are motorcyclists and can get bikes in under porch if weather is bad. We don't do the in house breakfast because part of the fukl is going to Walt's to eat. But the coffee adn juice are good, that's all we tried. We love the pool on rainy days because it is indoors.

Cold welcoming. Very outdated. Breakfast isn't even available till 8am which is diffcult when you have small children. Pool area was dirty.Website makes it out to be much nicer than it is. Worth maybe $80 a night but $120 no way.
