“Camping in Old Forge Camping Resort”

We loved it!! The camp attendants were so nice to us, very helpful! The camp was very clean. The nights are quiet.. the air is filled with the smell of campfires!! Our site was great.. lots of room, close to the portable water and the facilities! We would have been disappointed if we hadn't seen a bear, which we did the next morning. After all, you are in the Adirondacks!! We toured around some of the campground and saw the cottages and cabins and other sites. They were well taken care of. There are playgrounds and even a beach. We highly recommend this campground. We surely will be back!!

Room Tip: Just be sure to follow the rules of the bears you are given and you won't have any trouble with...

We had yet another great experience this past weekend at the Old Forge Camping Resort. We stayed two nights in a cabin and then moved to a cottage for two nights due to not having a cottage available for our entire stay. The cottage has everything you will need and then some. We loved having a private bath and shower  For the most part all team members we encountered were very nice and pleasant. You can really come here for a weekend and never leave the campgrounds as they have all you need right there. If you forget something basic the little camp store they have will most likely have it.

We did encounter some noise issues from a group of people near us during our stay in the cottage. We called security and they handled the situation immediately and professionally. There is no way for the resort to ensure noise issues won’t happen but they are well trained to handle once the issue is reported.

Keep up the good work and we look forward to returning soon!

Prior to our stay, the management resolved some issues I had with our tickets to Enchanted Forest Water Safari as part of their stay and play package. When we checked in, the front desk staff was perfectly courteous and accomodating. We were even able to check in an hour early.

Once we got to our cabin(54), we realized we were snugged right up next to cabin 53. Upon driving around the campground we would probably request a different cabin that didn't share so much space with another. The plus side, we were right next to the playground, and the kids could go back and forth comfortably. The bathrooms were nearby as well, and that was nice. They were clean and everything we could have desired.

We saw bear on 6 different occasions over the course of our 2 nights stay. Our first sighting was our first night. While we were roasting marshmallows a bear stole them off our table right in front of me! Throughout the course of our stay we saw the bear five more times, perusing the hill behind our cabin, getting into our neighbors car and investigating other campfires. As docile as these bears are, they are also very brash. They come right up to you basically, and that is unnerving for a mother of two small children(3 & 5). We chose not to campfire cook our last two meals, and ate out in the village.

Our cabin was clean and basic. The beds were hard, but we're camping and don't expect a ton of luxury! Like I mentioned our cabin was super close to cabin 53, and there was little room to spread out. The surrounding area around the cabin is also covered with sand. This proved to be very messy and sand got everywhere.

Overall, the jury is still out on whether or not we'll be back to the OFCR. We will be back in Old Forge for Enchanted Forest Water Safari though. We had a blast! If we do stay again, we'd probably try and request cabin 50, or stay in a cottage.

Room Tip: Cabin 50 looked like a nice spot

This was our second year back at OFCR and we, again, had a pretty good time. We stayed at Cottage 50, which is a great spot for peace, quiet and privacy (as long as you have decent neighbors!). During our 5 day stay, we canoed on Lake Serene, visited Calypso's Cove, shopped in town, fished at a local fishing spot, rode on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad and did some light hiking in the Nature Trail right on the OFCR grounds. We also built fires every night, as everyone should! It was a very eventful trip. We enjoy coming too because we can bring our 2 pups and feel safe about them being with us. The enclosed deck off the back of our cottage allowed them to be with us while we were outside, but not roaming free on the ground or tied to leashes....they were safe up on the deck and enjoying the outside air.

There were some drawbacks this year, however.....

We were unhappy about the amount of bees around our cottage this time around. We had an awful time eating outdoors or sitting outdoors because of the bees. Friends of ours who stayed at Cottage 50 last year had also said that they had a problem with bees.....told the Main Lodge, they sprayed....but the bees still persisted. OFCR really needs to address this issue and spray more often for bees. We can handle the other common flying pests, but the bees got aggressive while we were eating....and that doesn't sit well with families that have children.

The cleanliness of our floors in the cottage weren't great....and found a children's toy (small stuffed black bear) under one of the beds. I wish it was standard procedure to vacuum the floors upon changeover instead of just sweeping....and obviously cleaning under the beds.

The last drawback was the beds themselves. Many reviewers say they are uncomfortable, which they can be....but this is about the cleanliness of the beds. We always bring cleaner to wipe down the vinyl before placing our bedding on them....but as we wiped with the cleaner and paper towels, the paper towels were soaked brown with dirt. Just a note to the cleaning crew....please take the time to wipe down the beds. The cottages are not huge....and this should be a standard procedure to clean the vinyl properly. Don't depend on the guests to clean their cottages before their stay.....not at $180 dollars a night.

Overall, even with the drawbacks, we did have a great time. Lots to do....the views are great....people are friendly.....we never leave thinking we didn't have a blast.

We will be back to OFCR in a few years!

Room Tip: Just based on our stay, Cottages in the upper 30s, 40s and Cottage 50 seemed to be good choices for...

This is our second time here and we had a great time again. We stayed in a cabin and loved all of the conveniences of having electricity and beds.

The cabins are very clean as well as the bathrooms. This year we brought a power strip, an extension cord and a lamp to make it a little more homey. Next year I have to remember a doormat so we can try to keep the sand out.

We did see 4 bears this trip, but they stayed away from us, they just wanted our coolers. They are nothing to be afraid of. We also had many deer right around our cabin.

The only thing is I wish we did not have to share a bathroom with the men. Some of the cabins don't have unisex bathrooms but ours did.

We are definitely going back next year!

We are currently staying in a cottage on the lake for six days. This is our 7th year staying at OFCR and we love the cleanliness and convenience of the cottages. Due to the thinness of the mattresses, I have started bringing feather beds for the two adults. Our two kids do not have a problem with the mattresses on their top bunks. The cottage was spotless when we arrived, and it's so great to have a bathroom, gas stove, and refrigerator. The employees are very polite and accommodating. The only thing I would like to change is to add wifi in the cottages. It would make such a difference since my husband had to sit outside of the main lodge each day, to do some work on his computer. Overall, this has been a great trip. The weather did not cooperate this week, as it was cold and rainy nearly every day. We still managed to get to the Enchanted Forest Water Park, which was great and so clean and well maintained. We will be back for an 8th time!

We returned to The Old Forge Camping Resort this past week for three days and two nights. I believe this is our 5th year, and quite possibly the best one yet. We stayed in Kabin 126, which was directly across from the bathroom/shower area, but far enough back so that there wasn't any noise from anyone else going to or from that building. We enjoyed the Nature Trail in the campground, rented a paddle boat (they have been updated) and also took advantage of the nightly movie shown outside under a pavilion at the main lodge. We also did other walking throughout the grounds, as Water Safari and Calypso's cove are a short walk away on a wide, gravel road (not open to traffic). We will be back for a 6th time, possibly again this fall.

Room Tip: You are not allowed to select your site, but everywhere we have been assigned we have been happy!
