“An Amazing Wedding Experience”
Reviewed 24 August 2010

I was recently married at the Full Moon Resort and I can't speak highly enough of my entire experience. The staff was extremely attentive and helpful throughout the planning phase. I spoke regularly with one of the owners, as well as with the Event and Reservations Managers and the front desk associates. I left each conversation feeling as if my needs were being met and even anticipated.
The actual wedding event was equally well run. Every aspect of the rather complex event was masterfully scheduled, yet we felt no pressure to adhere to strict timelines. It was quite helpful when the staff made subtle cues to our guests to move on to the next activity. Over-staying your welcome in a particular spot may lead to additional fees to pay for the staff's overtime labor. When our dinner portion ran late (due to many lengthy speeches), the friendly staff helped us kick it into high gear so that cake could be enjoyed and guests could move out to the dance party without leaving us with the additional fee for the extra time in the reception tent. We held our dance party in the Performance Space, where we made use of the stage for a concert featuring several guests. This space has many seating options for guests who wanted to be present, but did not want to dance. At midnight, we had to leave the Performance Space, but we took an iPod and moved the party to the Billiards Room, where it raged on until 4am.
The accommodations are simple, but clean and comfortable. This is not a five-star hotel, but it is a sweet, rustic, beautiful, and well-kept place to spend a relaxing few days. Added bonus: lovely soaps in the bathrooms.
The food is simply delightful! Every meal was appreciated by all, including the vegetarians, vegans, and people with allergies and intolerances.
Overall, I wouldn't trade my wedding experience for anything. The price of the wedding was more than I had originally budgeted, but it was well worth every penny. The cost includes dinner, open bar, full use of the facilities, and all of the help and support from the staff. It was a beautiful place to be and all of my guests had a wonderful time enjoying the scenery, lounging by the pool, playing lawn games, sitting peacefully at the creek, and the opportunity to spend quality time with each other.

Full Moon Resort is ideally situated in peaceful surroundings which in itself enhances our work in our week-long improvisation retreat. But what makes our work, and play, very special is the staff, from top to bottom. That staff is attentive, cordial, flexible, and efficient. Response to our varied requests were answered quickly and sometimes imaginatively.

The initial contact with front desk staff is invariably a pleasure: we often arrive before time usually during the occasion when the Resort is wrapping up another festivity, nevertheless, we are welcomed. Housekeeping has always been available to meet our needs with alacrity whether the request is for more towels or a spontaneous shift in accommodations. The kitchen folks through a superb Chef are flexible to the degree that a portion from the wonderfully varied menu will be tailored to a single individual’s desire--without recrimination!. Maintenance staff responds efficiently, pleasantly, to complaints from light bulbs to plumbing. Finally, the owner, Henry Stout, is accessible, enthusiastic, and sincerely concerned that our stay is as pleasant as can be.

In the six years we have been happily ensconced at Full Moon Resort, my only complaint is that Henry keeps adding to the facility to create an even better experience. I see no need for change.

Sincerely

the staff was horrible and rude. rooms were disgusting and outdated.paper thin walls. went for a wedding and the rooms were not available until 1.5 hrs after they were supposed to be. at the open bar for wedding bartender took it upon himself to stop serving alcohol an hour before reception was even over.staff started folding up chairs and tables when people were still in tent for wedding. at after party staff turned off lights while people were still in the bar to get them to leave. HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. SO SORRY FOR BRIDE to have to deal with such unprofessional people on her day. only nice thing about the place was the grounds and food.

First, I want to apologize for any situation where the staff was or could have been perceived to have been rude. In fact we pride ourselves on a positive and friendly staff, and every reported matter of concern is addressed promptly. We always welcome follow up conversations as they continue to help us grow and improve.

Full Moon Resort is over 100 years old. Interior walls in most accommodations are Plaster and Lathe, a dense and solid form of construction, if a bit outdated. Since 2000 it has been our ongoing objective to restore the essence of the Catskill Mountain Lodge while maintaining the integrity of the original structures.

Full Moon is a facility operator, a catering company, and an event management team. All wedding events and services are carefully scheduled and thoroughly planned based on the desire of our clients, the Bride and Groom. Often, it is important that guests move efficiently from one part of the facility to another, so they can truly get the benefits of what the wedding couple has designed. Occasionally, the needs and requests of our clients do not directly match the desires of their guests. In such cases, our staff makes every effort to manage the situation graciously. We always allow for a grace period following scheduled end times in order to allow a relaxed transition to the next location or activity. After a reasonable period, and several reminders, the staff may begin to adjust the lights and clean up a location while guests are present. Again, every effort is made to facilitate a smooth and comfortable transition.

Weddings at Full Moon Resort typically include a ceremony, cocktail hour, reception dinner, and after party. Following the close of services, Full Moon always provides a late night location for guests to gather and continue to celebrate.

First I have to say, that if you are considering using Full Moon as your wedding venue stop considering and just do it. This place is absolutely fantastic. A year in advance of when we hoped to get married (which is a good time to snag your perfect summer dates as they start filling up early) we visited the resort for the first time and were instantly impressed with the beautiful grounds, charming buildings, and everything in between. The huge wide open fields, mountains and the creek create a calm, soothing, and romantic setting. It is the true natural beauty that surrounds Full Moon that makes it a magical place to get married.

For the next year of planning we received fantastic personalized attention which, given the unique nature of this type of "destination" wedding, was invaluable. They have managed to strike up the perfect balance of guiding the bride and groom through the process, but still keep all the components completely customizable, resulting in an incredible personalized wedding, not some "cookie cutter" affair. They are very helpful when it comes to finding local quality vendors, which in such an isolated area would have been impossible to accomplish on our own. In addition, they take masterful control when it comes to guest booking, which had the potential to get a bit confusing with guests having multiple "guests package" options such as how many, if any, nights they wanted to stay at the resort. They send each confirmed guest a personalized email answering all their questions, taking the responsibility off the bride and groom.

Every single person on the staff we encountered during our event was exceptionally friendly and pleasant to us and our guests. They only host one event at a time so our guests and ourselves had the run of the place, which really added to the ambiance and relaxing nature of our two days. They just have a way of making everyone feel right at home in their buildings and on their grounds resulting in a very unique, almost communal, vibe. You never feel like you are alone or confused because there is always someone ready and happy to help you. When I got a grass stain on my white linen suit 10 minutes before the ceremony the front desk and housecleaning staff went into overdrive and made it disappear in time for me to get married.

The food is to die for. We opted to have the gourmet BBQ for our reception dinner (one of our many "customizations"), and it was one of the best decisions we made. With the majority of our guests, ourselves included, traveling up from NYC where great food is everywhere it became very important to us to have exceptional food at our wedding. We had multiple people tell us that the food was better than some of the best southern BBQ they'd had and I, originating from Western North Carolina where we take our BBQ very seriously, agree. In addition, our welcome dinner, breakfasts, and lunches were all outstanding. If having the food at your wedding rise above the standard rubbery chicken and dry steak that most (even high end) banquet halls serve this is the place for you.

If you are budget conscience like we were they offer discounted pricing in the spring and on weekdays. We had our wedding on a Sunday-Monday and it saved us a nice chunk of change. They also present lots of details as optional add-ons (such as adding stemware, a champagne toast, table wine service, etc) instead of automatically including them and driving up the per person price. I found this very helpful in keeping us on budget, as we were able to just choose what was important to us to add it.

We HIGHLY recommend Full Moon to anyone looking to have a beautifully rustic, low key, and unique wedding. We have received countless compliments on how perfectly tailored to us our wedding was and that's exactly what we set out to achieve. I thank them so much for all their hard work and dedication, they took our special day and made sure that it was nothing less than perfect.

1. A long way off the beaten path. Expect about an hour and fifteen minutes from Kingston, NY

2. We stayed at the Resort as part of a wedding party. I would describe the resort as more of a compound. There is a main building which includes the "front desk" and a cafe. The outbuildings comprise the rooms, which are more like individual bed and breakfast type buildings.

3. Our room was adequate, nothing fancy. A bit musty (we stayed early in the season, so I imagine this is unavoidable)

4. The location was fantastic for a wedding, very picturesque. (although if the weather was bad, it would have been a disaster with things so spread out)

5. There is no cell service at this location. Which I found to be a good thing, but many find that unacceptable.

6. The food was very good (the wedding food in particular). The "cafe" food was also decent, and had a good variety.

7. The biggest downside to our stay was the price. For the accomadations, $200+ a night is way to much. It must be the proximity to New York City, because if it wasn't for the wedding, we would have never stayed at this location.

The management at Full Moon always appreciates feedback as it helps us improve and better serve the needs of our clientele.

Full Moon Resort is located approximately 30 miles from Kingston NY and about 2.5hrs from Mid-Town Manhattan. Actual travel time from Kingston is about 45 minutes.

Accommodations are simple bed and breakfast style. For weddings, the bride and groom have control over the design and location of each function. We always specify back up locations in case of inclement weather. When looking at the price of a weekend stay, it is important to consider that three meals (breakfast, lunch and breakfast) are included in the “Guest Package”. Room rates range from $75-$130 per night. Though it is true there is no cell service, we do offer WiFi throughout the facility.

Full Moon is specifically designed to serve the needs of groups, weddings, music events, and other types of gatherings. General hotel business is a small fraction of our business and recommended only for those who are seeking a simple clean accommodation in a pristine natural environment.

Our newly formed theater company had our very first five day workshop retreat at Full Moon and it was on every level the most incredible experience thanks to the proprietor, Henry, his staff, the gorgeous grounds, amazing food and their general kindness, generosity and offering to meet all our customized needs and special requests.
The work that we did at Full Moon was the opening steps for a deeper commitment that we are making to each other and to this theater company. Full Moon was the perfect place for us to do this. Yes, we we worked but we also played, using just about every single building and exhausting every amenity there: from the barn to the playhouse, pool, stream, campfires---Ah, those late-night campfires under a blanket of black sky scattered with stars, are a must! We will return to Full Moon every year and make this a part of our extended creative home that stretches from NYC to Big Indian.
Thank you, Merci, and Gracias in a thousand different languages.

Full Moon Resort is a wonderful place for a peaceful getaway or for an event or a retreat. On hundred acres in the gorgeous Catskill Mountains await your arrival. I recently stayed there as part of a theatre group and found the service and food to be fantastic. The kitchen and the wonderful chefs were very accommodating to those of us with special diets, and the food was always top notch. The cabins and cottages are quaint and comfortable, and the peace and quiet made getting a good night's sleep very easy. There is no cell phone service and wi-fi is sporadic at times, but if you are looking to get away from it all, this place is the best. The owner, Henry, is the greatest guy ever. I cannot recommend it highly enough!!!
