The positive aspects of The Alpine Inn: beautiful views, wonderful breakfast, free wi-fi. The negatives: When we checked in, we were told people were "spoiled" by expecting queen-size beds when the king sized were all gone. Our room smelled mildewy. The only amenity in the room was a hair-dryer. When my husband wanted a cup of coffee after the breakfast time closed, there was none to be found, not even a soda machine to get a drink. The nearest place was a 15-minute drive down the road - IF they were open. The beds were okay, but thank goodness I had my own pillows. And I'm not sure if the bug bites I started getting were bed bugs or mites, they may have been from outside, but I don't think so.
We were there for a wedding. There were 3 places to stay in the immediate area, and any other accommodations were a 30-minute drive on mountain rodes, so we were rather stuck paying $200/night.

Room Tip: If you have to stay there, as in for a wedding, book as soon as you get the invitation. Perhaps in...

This family run lodge does have its charm but it could also use quite a bit of updating. Wonderful views and grounds along with a reasonable breakfast. But the rooms have a very tired feeling about them and the response from the owners to questions, no less problems, can be uneven. Some of the family members are quite responsive and pleasant, others not so much. Go for the area and bring modest expectations.

We're sorry if you felt your stay was inconsistent. That's not our style, and we only want to provide a pleasant and welcoming experience. That being said, we're glad you enjoyed the area. We hope you got to try out some of the local activities, a nice hike perhaps. Last thing, we want you to know your feedback's appreciated and used to get better. We'd love for you to come back and see how your input has been put to good use.

Best,

Stayed at the Alpine Inn for 3 days with a friend to do some fishing in the area. From the moment we arrived until we left, our hosts could not do enough for us. We were greeted in a friendly warm manner, room was ready, and very clean. Breakfast and dinner were terrific. They accommodated our little tweaks to the menu, with a no problem at all attitude. They even made a fire for us in the common area. Would definitely stay here again and again. Oh yeah, almost forgot about the fishing....the Esopus flows right on the their property. Caught a few fish too!

We're glad you didn't forget about the fishing! Seriously though, thanks for the thoughtful review. It sounds like you had a wonderful visit -- just the type of visit we try to give all of our customers. You should come back for the winter and see how beautiful this place can be with some snow!

We attended a wedding at a resort a mile up the road and needed a place to stay because our family is too large for one hotel. I was very happy that we ended up at the Alpine instead of the other place! The view is spectacular and the grounds are very well maintained. It is a ski chalet with several buildings but our room was in the main lodge.
We had a suite with two bedrooms that shared a bathroom. Our families took 5 rooms in two different chalets. Rooms were clean, beds were in good shape and it's clear that the owners are making a strong effort to keep the place up to the ever-changing expectations of guests. I heard no complaints from anyone. Our room had a very small TV (but who goes to the Catskills to watch TV?) but the Inn had WiFi which was nice considering that there is no cell service in the area. Breakfast is included and was delicious with a nice variety of choices.
As mentioned, updating was in progress as we saw them renovating the front decking. Our bathroom was also recently updated. The main lodge area is a bit 1980's but you can't renovate everything and keep the atmosphere. Expect something to be old; something to be new and something to be in progress; but in general the Inn should meet your needs and pleasantly surprise more often than not. I would go back again and stay more than a day or two.

We're glad you ended up with us too! It sounds like you had a good time, and hopefully the wedding was great. Sorry you had to see us renovating, but we're sure you'd rather see that than commodities you wouldn't be happy with. Thanks for this stellar review, and if you haven't you should see us in the beautiful wintertime.

This place had frienldy service and delicious breakfast. The decoration and equipment of the interior were from 80's, but working ok. The cabins had properly working wireless access, even the valley was out of cellular coverage!

I returned again for another weekend at the Alpine Inn and I have to be honest. I have been going back to this hotel for over 30 years. The rooms are like new. The grounds are manicures and they are always fixing things up. According to Eric and Edna, the owners, Maintenance on a hotel is a constanst process in order to keep up excellence and excellent it is. The location is perfect. It is surrounded by mountains and you really feel like you are in a Swiss resort, not 100 miles from NYC.

On this trip I had a special treat. I was able to see a juvenile bear on the property. Unfortunately I could not take a picture or even get too close because even though bears are bigger than I am they are terrified of people and run at the instant of seeing a person. I also saw a doe and a fawn who were also scared of people but these were visible from panoramic windows in the kitchen.

I would recommend this as an all season resort but advise making reservations in advance

Room Tip: I normally opt for the least expensive rooms. They all have showers, comfy beds and balconies overlo...

This is a very well maintained chalet / ski lodge inn, whose owners have managed the property for almost 50 years. They take great care in providing a quality stay. The lodge serves a large home-cooked breakfast. The room was clean and in good condition. The grounds are beautiful. There is a stream at the base of the property and a swimming pool. It is near hiking trails, skiing, tubing, mountain biking, and antique stores. Close to the charming hamlet of Phoenicia. The staff was very helpful. At night, it is very quiet. You can sleep very well. There is cable TV in the room. Because you are the mountains, cell coverage is spotty at best. So if you want to escape and "unplug," this is the place to do it.
