“A little small”

Joseph L. Popp, Jr. Butterfly Conservatory
Reviewed 27 June 2018 via mobile

It was a little small, it was really cool seeing all of the different butterflies, and birds, but it did smell a bit. My 2 year old niece really liked that she was able to feed the fish and turtles.

I went here based on the good reviews on this site. I don’t know what people are thinking. This is not a true conservatory. It is more like an older woman who hoards animals.

Birds in cages, bunnies in make-shift fences eho are losing fur and not looking too healthy, an iguana, a couple turtles and some butterflies, all shoved together in one hot room. Not healthy for the animals At All. Sad, really.

Then, after charging $15 per person, she follows you around the entire time. How is this “peaceful” as other reviewers have stated? No idea.

I would NEVER take a child here. It is dirty, unsanitary, and uncomfortable. So glad I came on my own the first go around. Save your money and go elsewhere.

I have been to this conservatory many times and every time I discover something new. It is especially nice to visit in the winter when it is cold and brown outside...the conservatory provides a warm space with green plants and a variety of birds and animals to sit and watch. Do note that there are not many butterflies in the winter as they don't fly around during the winter months, but honestly the butterflies are a bonus to the other amazing creatures you discover inside! It's a great activity for kids and excellent place to bring your family and spend an afternoon at all times of the year. Highly recommend this unique spot!! For those coming to Cooperstown, it is just 40 minutes away and really worth the visit!

I love the birds of all colors ans sizes, some flying freely, some walking on the ground. There are magnificent tropical butterflies in the summer. It's peaceful as well as exciting. Makes you feel like a child, in spirit. Highly recommended! Beautiful tropical butterflies in the summer, but you can get closer to the birds in the winter when there are few visitors, and some of them you can feed.

We absolutely love this place! It's a real special treat in the winter when you NEED nature, warmth and relaxation. Very educational for all ages. So many creatures to look for. Because it is SO warm, remember to wear layers as you will want to be in a t-shirt once inside. We have been going for years on our 3rd generation now! Please take advantage of beating the winter blahs, it takes a lot of $$ to heat this place!
