The Orient Inn is a large well-preserved 1906 Shingle style house in a beautiful setting. Our room was large and comfortable with an equally large updated bathroom. Wonderful as the accommodations are, the food might be even better. Joan is a graduate of the French Culinary Institute and her breakfasts are among the best we have had anywhere. She will also prepare dinners using local ingredients on special request for an extra charge. We took advantage of this a were glad we did. She sent us three menus and worked with us to create the one that worked for us. It was a fantastic meal. We will return to this place as soon as we can.

We have been there twice at different times of year. It is very gracious in every way; the owners, the space, the comfort. Yummy breakfast; inviting common quarters on first floor where you can just read and relax and same for lovely porch.
Host owners are fabulous! I urge you to go for a weekend!

Joan and Howard are wonderful hosts! When Howard says "This is your home. Make yourself comfortable", you feel like it's literally true. And without fail, their recommendations for things to do and see in the area are spot on.

My husband and I stayed at the Orient Inn this past weekend. We were long overdue for a weekend sans kids. Orient Inn was the perfect place to spend some time alone. The inn was very comfortable. The bedroom was very spacious and the bathroom was simple, clean and nice (we stayed in room 6). The owners were so nice and helpful. They were there if we wanted to chat or had a question. But when we wanted to be alone in our room, we were never disturbed. The inn was so relaxing and it was a treat to have our delicious homemade breakfast in front of the fire in the morning. We have never stayed in the North Fork in the summer, but if we do, we will stay at Orient Inn again.

I recently stayed at the Orient Inn on eastern long Island. Originally from the east end I was looking for a place to ease the tension of accomodatins during the holidays. The Inn is very old and authentic and was beautifully renovated keeping the charm and simplicity. There are large wood framed common rooms and the large framed wood molding carries thoughout the home, There are large windows with lots of light and the rooms are quite nice with that classic country feel. Joan and Howard the Inn keepers could not have been nicer; it felt like coming home and being around family. They also have one pet friendly room for well behaved dogs. The most amazing part of the experience was being treated to a gourmet style breakfast every morning. I have stayed at many B&Bs and have experienced a wide array of breakfastess. However Joan is an amazing chef and she cooks up incredible omelates and french toast which melts in your mouth. Its an perfect place for a get away and both Joan and Howard are excellent hosts. They are there when you need them but they give you plenty of privacy as well. Its an easy going country atmosphere. Aside from that they know the local area very well and can direct to whatever you may be looking for, beaches, wineries and walking trails. They have a lovely dog themselves and she makes you feel right at home even if you are traveling without your dog. I would definitely put the Orient Inn at the top of my B&B list.

Room Tip: rooms vary in size so be sure to view the rooms on their website and also discuss on the phone. roo...

We stayed at the Orient in the weekend prior to Hurricane Sandy, and I'm hoping that they're doing alright. The inn is in a large, homey house, but unlike many other inns of this type it's not full of kitschy or grandmothery things. The owner was trained at the French Culinary Institute at some point, and her breakfasts are lovely with fantastic eggs, french toast, etc. The housekeeping was a little strange—the person who cleaned my room was so thorough that all of my clothes, books, magazines, etc were moved, which I found annoying—but I suppose that's better than not being thorough enough. It's only a few minutes drive to the shops and restaurants in Greenport, but it's not right in town so it's quiet and feels a little more rural. We'd definitely go back.

Room Tip: The rooms toward the back of the building are probably a bit quieter as they're furthest from th...

We stayed here for one night as part of a long weekend trip to the North Fork. It's a cute B&B, but I'm not sure if it is worth the price. I realize that you are paying higher rates because of the location, but I think there's were a little too high for what you get, especially outside of high season when you can't really enjoy the beaches. The location in Orient wasn't all that amazing. That being said, Joan-the owner, is very friendly and helpful and makes an amazing breakfast.
