“Flour Shop is former Flower Shop”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2014

If you'd seen the site before you would enjoy going there just to see how the old building has been rejuvenated and given a new life with a take on the old name. Tasty salads, sandwiches, breakfast entrees and delicious coffee. Yes, service is a bit slow, but you can call ahead for your order if you are in a hurry. Great to have a place to eat, visit, and relax in a part of town with no other food services. Glad to know it is doing a good business.

“Great customer service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 May 2014 via mobile

Loved the service! I wanted to get a gift certificate for a friend who lives in Penn Yan who loves the Flour Shop. I live in Rochester. They processed a card over the phone and mailed it to me, I received it the next day.

“Great little bistro in a small town.”

Service is ok a bit slow but the lattes are worth the wait! They even special ordered some chai tea so we could take it home! Pastries are cute and tasty.

“Nice place but nothing remarkable”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014

I stopped in for breakfast one summer morning and was hoping for something really special. The Flour Shop is good, but not great. The first negative is the entrance. They've got a door closest to the parking lot that looks like an entrance, but it's locked -- I kept trying to get in and thought they were closed. The actual entrance is on the sidewalk, so it's not well-designed for first-time visitors.

Inside, the main eating area is a collection of tables and chairs; didn't feel like anyone made an attempt at creating intimate seating areas, just plopped furniture down and that was it. You walk up a couple of steps to order coffee and choose your bakery items from the case. I thought the coffee was pricey for what I received, plus the bakery items were dry and tasted like day-old fare, even though I'd stopped in at 8:30 in the morning.

As business had brought me to Penn Yan several times in the early morning hours, I'd driven by and found them closed. This time, I came later and was excited to try out the Flour Shop. I wanted to like it much more than I actually did.

It's good to support local business and I wouldn't choose Starbucks (if Penn Yan had one) or Dunkin' Donuts over this, but the local community deserves something slightly better. If there was any real competition in town, I'm not sure they'd survive.

“The Best Place in Penn Yan for Coffee”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2014

My favorite place to go in Penn Yan. Homemade cinnamon rolls every Saturday! Scones, bagels, muffins, froyo, specialty coffees, soups, sandwiches, the most delicious marshmallows in the world and friendly staff. What more could you ask for?
