Our group of ten visited the Veste Otzberg because ancestors were from Hering. One lived in the fortress as an artillery man. The Veste Otzberg was worth the visit. We had a guided tour by a local historian which was fantastic. The town of Hering and the Veste Otzberg is off the beaten path for North American, but it is a neat place to visit. The oldest part of the fortress dates to the thirteenth century. Being on the top of the hill, there are fantastic views of the countryside and neighbouring towns
