Mendon Ponds Park has incredibly interesting topography, much of which was created by glaciers in the last ice age. A day hike will take you back to high school earth science as you traverse drumlins and kames and walk by kettle lakes. Hikes can include bogs, deciduous and coniferous forests, open meadows, streams, ponds and lakes. Great bird watching in all seasons including bluebirds in the summer and friendly chickadees and titmice who will feed from your hands in the winter.
If you're an equestrian, bring your horse for some great trail riding. Nordic skiers enjoy the trails in the winter.
There are open and enclosed pavilions and lodges for rent that make great party or picnic venues. One in particular is a 19th century cobblestone house with a lovely fireplace and outdoor patio.
