“A gem of a Hampton Inn”
Reviewed 3 November 2010

I'm not sure the reviews below give this hotel enough credit. Or perhaps those reviewers are not used to life on the road...

I travel about 100 nights out of the year. Hilton Honors Diamond Member. Have been for three years. This is a pretty nice Hampton Inn compared to others I've stayed at. The rooms are clean, its either a new hotel, or a new remodel (it uses the new furniture and new layout that are found at all of the newer Hamptons).

Large flat panel television in the room. No high-def channels, but i'm sure that'll change soon. Great desk chair to work at, which only us business-folks enjoy, but honestly, having a horrible desk chair makes the hotel experience terrible.

Is there privacy in the bathroom? Well, the sink/dressing area does open up into the bedroom area, but come on, its a hotel. Were you expecting a large parlor to dress in to have privacy from your other person sharing your room? Your sharing a room for goodness sake.

The breakfast was good. Typical hampton breakfast, although they did have make-your-own waffles, which you only see at about 50% of the Hampton Inns. They of course had cookies for checkin, and popcorn in the evenings.

As a hilton honors diamond member, I was upgraded to a suite. Always a nice touch, even though its not "required" by HHonors policies.

Friendly staff and management. The morning and evening manager said hi to me in the hallways, and the desk staff were as accomodating as normal.

All-in-all, a very nice hotel. The price was on-average with other Hampton Inn's. Perhaps a bit on the higher side, but I've paid a lot more for a Hampton in major cities such as Boston, NYC, DC, etc... I'd certainly recommend this hotel to others, and take the reviews below with a grain of salt. (of course you're going to pay more on Parents Weekend... duh.)

We've stayed at many many Hilton/Hampton Inn properties, and nearly every stay has been totally acceptable or better. Once in a great while, you hit a clinker, and this was one of those times. Our room was a jacuzzi suite, offering absolutely no privacy or light control, as the shower and sink area open out right into the bedroom, with the shower in full view. (I notice that you can see a photo of this arrangement on the hotel website) To provide privacy, one of us would sit on the sofa, which wasn't that pleasant, much of furniture in the room had uninviting stains. We always carry a "just in case" can of disinfectant spray, and we did use it in this room to spray and wipe the toilet, which had several spots on the rim and seat. The shower floor looked grungey and unpleasant.

Front desk staff was pleasant and the breakfast was what you expect if you've stayed at Hampton Inns, which means it was just fine for getting the day started.

I appreciate you taking the time to inform us of your stay. I would have welcomed the opportunity to connect with you personally while you were with us as we have other suites that offer more privacy. Please feel free to do so if you wish and I will make sure your next stay with us will be more pleasant one. Our maintenance department is currently making any necessary repairs to our guest room carpet to remove stains. I had inspected showers in suites and our housekeeping department made necessary deep cleaning of those. Thank you for bringing these items to our attention. We hope you will choose us again when in the area.

was driving trying to get to vermont, and ran out of energy, so we wound up in poughkeepsie

any way we were lookig for the fall leaves, and found plenty in the area. we were going to continue driving, but decided to stay here another night, and just trip around the area.

found the walking bridge to late in our trip to walk it, but it looked great and fun to walk across or part way:

do not miss it

hotel was great and clean

Stayed here to see Hyde Park attractions. Very little lodging in that town. Poughkeepsie is just 15 minutes away.

Typical Hampton Inn. Nice beds. Decent breakfast. Good location. Pricey, however. Checked 5-6 sites and we ended up paying $150/night the week we were there. Not used to paying that; guess it's New York.

Dear Valued Guest, Thank you very much for your comments. Please note that our rates fluctuate throughout the year. September is typically a high season and demand time for our area due to beautiful fall attractions and festivals as well as number of local college events and parents visitation weekends. Please note that our rates, are comparable to other hotels in Poughkeepsie area. I am glad that you had enjoyed other amenities that we offer.

This hotel charged me $350.00 for l night in Poughkeepsie, it would have been closer to $400.00 without the triple A discount. I just came back from Europe and the Westin Excelsior in Rome was priced at that for 1 night. How dare they. They priced -fixed the rate for parents weekend. Plus......the breakfast that was included was 95% picked over by the time we got downstairs at 9:15...with no replentishment. I was not counting on the breakfast, but it would have softened the blow...it only made it worse. And the staff could care less. The is a Hampton Inn in Poughkeepsie for goodness sake. Fool me once..... I originally booked the reservation in June personally when we went to visit on orientation. However, for some reason I was booked for the friday after the parent weekend. I did notice this and changed the date....but got a big surprise when I got the bill. My original quote with tax was $170.10. They doubled it. There are many other hotels in this area even closer to the schools. I would never recommend this hotel....the management could care less. Ho...hum was the attitude. I travel quite frequently and have given great reviews to many hotels on tripadvisor. However, when you feel that you have been taken advantage of.....you must speak so others don't get ripped off. Stay away. Check out the other hotels.

Dear Valued Guest, We do apologize for the mix up with your reservation and that we were not able to accommodate your original rate that you booked for one week later. Parents weekends and graduation weekends are our highest demand weekends and rates for those are set one year in advance. Those are typically more expensive than any other time frame as all of the hotels in the area are booked many months in advance and there is not enough inventory in the market to accommodate all the parents and visitors to the area during that time. Moreover fall months weekends are very popular due to beautiful foliage that is in our surrounding area

We stay at a lot of Hampton Inns. This was middle of the road. One reason we stay at Hampton Inns is the consistency of the experience so an average Hampton experience is not necessarily a bad thing. The hotel was sold out while we stayed there and the staff was available and friendly. We had some problems with our keys needing re-activated each day. We also had trouble adding a night to our stay. We wound up making a separate booking for the extra night to avoid a rate increase for the whole stay. This was an inconvenience but the Poughkeepsie staff was able to keep us in the same room for the whole stay.

We stayed at the Hampton Inn over parents' weekend at Marist College. It was a 10 minute drive from the college and was a great place to stay. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and we got a great night's sleep. The only down side was how busy the dining room was. They offer a free breakfast, but only had one worker on staff, so there was a big backup at the buffet. We wil definitely be staying there again.

Hello - I appreciate you staying with us. I'm glad you enjoyed the hotel. I hope to have you stay with us again real soon. Yes breakfast area is very busy during weekends. Let me let you on a small secret- we keep our meeting rooms open for breakfast maybe next time you can use those they are adjoin to our great room. I like the breakfast here too - my favorite is the hot waffle.
