“Eclectic collection”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

This is a small but wonderful collection. There seems to be a little bit of everything. Hudon Valley school artists, Medieval, Egyptian, a few dutch, a few Picassos, some impressionists, modern art, some scultpures, very eclectic,
There are 2 special exhibits now. The fabric work by Todd Knopke are super. Huge, vibrant colors and flowing
the mastering the light exhibit is really great. We were surprised there was such variety packed into a few small rooms. we saw every piece there in 1 hour. Vassar campus is beautiful.

So glad we visited here. Collection was larger than I expected and I loved every bit of it. The collection of first century pieces was our favorite!

“Quite the surprise”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

I've known about this small museum on the Vassar campus for quite some time, but never stopped in until this past weekend. The 20th century art was the surprise. I did not expect to see several Picasso paintings, Matisse, Leger, Ernst, Matta, O'Keefe, Balthus (with a cat, of course), Delauney, Lichtenstein, and a wonderful Jackson Pollock, and 2 Calder mobiles. On top of this is a small collection of ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman objects. The Egyptian head is special. Add to this, a small collection of Renaissance-era Italian works, and a small collection of Hudson River paintings. There were a couple of Thomas Cole works, and some Edwin Church landscapes. To top this off, there was a special exhibit of photographs. Fairly small museum, but surprisingly strong collection. I reserve 5 stars for places like the MET, or MOMA. Did I mention that this place is free? Great for a short visit.
