Owner description: Overlooking the Hudson River in Poughkeepsie New York, the 200-acre Locust Grove Estate is a museum and nature preserve centered on a 45-room Italianate villa built in 1851. Begining in 1895 new owners William and Martha Young redecorated the mansion with their vast collection of art and antiques, and added new gardens. Mr. and Mrs. Young's daughter, Annette, lived at Locust Grove until 1975, preserving the estate essentially as her parents had used it. Inside the historic mansion, step back in time to the early years of the 20th century; the Young family's collection of Hudson River School paintings, early 19th-century American furniture, and personal possessions are still in place after more than a century.

Work retreat at this location was really great; the meeting room was very comfortable, the food was fantastic, and the staff were very friendly and flexible. Great to be in such an excellent historic site. The chairs were not that comfortable for everyone but overall we all really appreciated the location and would return again next year.

This is a nice park to take walks in the woods, but nothing really outstanding. We were expecting more views over the Hudson River, but the pastures that once provided the views are mostly overgrown. There were bugs, so we could not really stop for bird watching.
Good place for a pick nick.

5 miles worth of trails. Beautiful grounds. Nice little gift shop. Nice place to come and relax. You can also volunteer to help around the grounds. My son and I with a school group went and helped for a school extra credit project.

We had a wonderful time there. We attended an afternoon tea and visited the museum. It was a great educational opportunity for our 13 yr old. We were able to learn much of the history of the home, about Samuel Morse, and especially loved the tea and sandwiches!

Nice, leisurely walk around the grounds and in the woods. Free for this, but check website for fees for tour of Mansion. Wear appropriate shoes and bring bug spray. Quaint little boutique and clean bathroom in museum.
