It is a beautiful turn of the century home in downtown Red Hook. Very peaceful. Pat and Nabil were so friendly and accomodating. The hot tub was very private and the water was crystal clear. The view from the hot tub of the pond with the swan was completely calming. The food was FABULOUS. I look forward to my next visit. I'm already booked!

My 16-year-old daughter and I stayed at the Red Hook Inn on a last-minute reservation made with the help of an administrator at Bard College on the night of a terrible snow storm. We truly lucked into the last room available, and it was fabulous! Owners Pat and Nabil greeted us as we entered, along with two young staff members to carry
our luggage to our room. The Inn is in an 165-year-old home that has been refurbished and, while truly modernized, still maintains an
"aged charm". We ate dinner at the Roasted Garlic Restaurant at the Inn and were completely satisfied. After dinner, we sat in the bar/
lounge across the hall and listened to live jazz by a Bard college-student band, which we were happy to have lucked into (apparently they have live music each Friday evening). We thoroughly enjoyed the very comfortable king-sized bed and slept like babies. Breakfast was simple but very good and plenty of food, and the coffee was outstanding--very strong and exotic! Despite the complaints about payment being demanded at check-in and rudeness associated therewith in other reviews I have read on this website, we received none of that. Pat and Nabil were very gracious in all respects, accomodated a late check out for us and truly made us feel like family. My husband and I will definitely visit this Inn for a getaway -- I will enjoy visiting again with Pat, who I now consider a friend, and my husband can enjoy the pampering I have already bragged about!

I have stayed in numerous B&B's in the tri-state area so I believe my standards are quite reasonable. Based on the prior reviews, my girlfriend and I booked the Red Hook Inn for some rest and relaxation. Upon arriving, the first thing we noticed was that the inn was on a fairly busy street (the picture and description on their site implies that it is amid 'farms.. and rolling green hills'. The second thing we noticed was that we were expected to pay for our rooms (including state & local taxes) upon arrival. Now this was odd since our rooms were held with a credit card even though they only accept cash for the room payment (yet credit cards are accepted elsewhere at the inn). The third thing we noticed was that many of the amenities described in their website were 'makeshift' at best. We toured a few of the rooms as they were open - a fireplace meant a makeshift fireplace in the middle of the room. The TV in our room was smaller than my laptop screen. To access the 'whirlpool' in the back you had to walk past the restaurant downstairs with your bathing suit and towels which would have been a bit awkward. The last thing we noticed was that the quality of our room and furnishings simply didn't justify the price. The bed was uncomfortable, the furniture looked like it was bought from a garage sale. We felt uncomfortable walking barefoot on the rug as it was damp and dirty. One somewhat redeeming quality was the breakfast, but the inn itself is below standard for the price.

While we appreciate constructive comments in order to better serve our guests, we ask any guest who has an issue, to contact us directly. There is an old saying in business of 'if you are happy with us, please tell others, if you are not, please tell us. The internet today is a blessing and a bain. Truth or untruth can be printed anonymously allowing people to 'hide' behind the curtain.

Alot of unpleasantness can be avoided along with hurt feelings on both sides if a guest takes the time to discuss whatever has caused them distress, directly with the owner, at the time of the incident. Many times, a simple explanation or solution is available effecting a happy ending.

We strive to take care of our guests in every possible way by providing many amenities, including brand new-high quality Serta bedding, in room coffeemakers, comfy robes, fresh flowers, hairdryer, luggage rack, TV with movies and cable, reading materials, personal amenities, a refrigerator for the use of the guests and 'in case you forgot' supplies. As we accept personal checks for payment, the issue of being offered an invoice upon arrival is for the convenience of the guest, so that they may settle at their convenience. At times, a guest may advise that they will be rushed in the morning, at which time we make arrangements to handle the financial obligations immediately. No one is ever 'asked' for payment upon arrival. Generally a guest will ask 'would you like for me to settle this now?". As we do take a credit card as a guarantee, many guests are given 30 days to mail in their payment, without penalty or problems. We feel this is quite reasonable.

Large hotels are very impersonal while inns and B&B's are quite the opposite. An owner is generally onsite at all times, available for discussion with all guests. We provide information on area sights, places to dine, places to hike and in many cases, our own computer for their use. If a potential guest prefers the environment of a larger commercial hotel, we advise them to make the reservation elsewhere. We are a small business, in the business of serving happy customers. Unhappy customers spread their feelings among other guests, creating an environment that we do not want.

We so appreciate any comments from our guests that will reflect a positive outcome for anyone who stays with us.

Even though they used the internet to voice their displeasure, we have offered this guest an option to make amends for any difficulties they may have encountered during their previous stay.

We stayed at this inn based on several reviews on this site and were disappointed. We tried to phone the inn to find out if our room might be ready earlier than check-in, but no one answered the phone. We left a message, but did not receive a return call. Finally, we were able to reach someone after several calls over the course of about 2 hours.
When we got to the inn, the person who led us to our room never offered to help us with the bags. Our room was priced at $250. Our bed was comfortable. However, the portion of the lock that was attached to the door jamb was barely hanging on. Anyone could have broken into the room. There were several lightbulbs missing . It appeared that maintenance was not a priority.
We planned to eat at the Roasted Garlic and should have followed our instincts when we saw the restaurant was empty (several inn guests followed us, but I didn't see anyone else enter the restaurant.) The salad was o.k., but we weren't given a choice of dressings and I found it too sweet. My salmon didn't taste fresh (probably frozen) and though it was supposed to be in a pesto sauce it tasted lemony. The sides were just o.k. We didn't have dessert. We decided to go elsewhere.
At breakfast, we were given no choices. The fresh fruit was good. However, they insisted we have scrambled eggs (no choice on the egg style), home fries, and bacon or sausage. The bacon was lukewarm and too hard to eat. The waiter allowed me to take a muffin from the brunch buffet in the next room, but the owner/chef did not seem happy about it.
As stated in another review, the final bill for the inn must be paid by check or cash, which seems odd, since they take the reservation with a credit card.

As our check-in policies are clearly outlined in both our website and confirming emails sent to guests, we specifically state 4PM so that we may have time to run errands prior to the check-in time. Having a guest call several times over the course of an hour and not receiving an answer is not cause for complaint. The guest was arriving on a Saturday evening and had not made a prearrangement to arrive prior to our regular time. They were unexpectedly early but were accommodated. Had they arrived on schedule, our staff would have been here and happily carried their luggage! As far as the petty item mentioned regarding a light bulb being out ,had the guest notified us, it would have been replaced immediately. Additionally, the lock on the door had been abused the evening earlier by a wedding couple who had 'forgotten' their key and upon returning extremely late, forced it open. As the woodwork is 165 years old, we reinstalled the lock and although it may have appeared 'flimsly', it was secure as we waited for the carpenter to arrive the following Monday to replace the wood frame. Our option would have been to turn the guests away, and as it appears, would have resulted in a more negative comment than the one listed today.
As we are in the off season with many of our neighborhing restaurant facilities, our dining room is not always full. While all guests are entitled to their personal taste, we are sorry that this guest was not happy with their meal, Had they discussed their feelings with one of us, we would have handled their concerns. Our guests are given Sunday breakfast options which include a 'catsup to caviar' brunch and a 1PM checkout (instead of 11A). As our Sunday preparation is very hectic, we offer a standard breakfast of scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, homefries, fresh fruit, scones, juices and coffee or tea. Had our guest expressed a dietary concern or requirement, again, their concerns would have been addressed.
Happily, they enjoyed the best bed in the house, their luxury king, in beautiful guest room with fireplace, whirlpool tub, plasma tv wireless internet, heated towel bars and plush robes, fresh flowers, in room coffee and tea, a 1000 title movie library with cable tv, early check in and a full breakfast.
We also took the opportunity to personally write the guest who sent this review but have not received a response. Hopefully, the guest will communicate with us and we can mediate the situation for a happy ending.
