Back there yesterday for the first time this year... and the question that's always in mind after a gap in time: has Taste Budds changed — menu, style, pricing, quality? Nope in every case. Still the same litter of rickety little tables and chairs (ah... one change: now there are prominent signs scotchtaped to some of the tables designating them as "for eating only, no studying or computers"; this is a necessity as Taste Budds, only five miles from Bard College, is a haven for its students looking to work or chat in a convivial and warm environment while nursing one cup of coffee for longer than you'd deem possible.) Anyway, back to the main menu — the same chalkboarded list of wraps, sandwiches, salads and the occasional hot dish like their mac 'n' cheese. I can't comment on the breakfast menu, but it looks just as good. For lunch or late afternoon tea I can't prise myself away from the curried chicken salad — diced pieces cooked in a mild fruity curry sauce, mixed with grapes and grape tomatoes, over very fresh greens drenched in balsamic dressing— as far as I am concerned heaven in a bowl, and of course being a salad it conscience-ticks you to have one of those to-die-for desserts. Try Life by Chocolate (yes, you read that right). I once read somewhere that Taste Budds is or was rated as one of the 10 best venues for chocolate-based comestibles in the US. I can believe it. Sometimes they have live music of the local singer-songwriter type, if you like that kind of thing.
