We were meeting some good friends in Rhinebeck for Sunday brunch. Having already enjoyed a couple of other restaurants in town (Terrapin, Market Street) in the past, we wanted to try someplace new, and chose The Amsterdam. We were very pleased with our experience. The food was excellent across the board -- from the buttermilk biscuits to the smoked salmon to the fried chicken sandwich. The goat cheese omelet and the potato gnocchi were exceptional. Warm chocolate chip cookie topped with creamy vanilla ice cream was a perfect dessert. We also enjoyed a delicious cider -- dry, crisp, and refreshing. The staff was very friendly and the service was very good. The atmosphere is casual and laid-back -- simple decor with a cool vibe. Reasonable prices. Outdoor seating is available. We would return without hesitation.

I've only been twice. I'm a local and we've enjoyed the patio outback. Inside looks cozy for indoor weather.
Staff is always been competent, food has always been good. The cocktails and desserts are standouts . So arrive early to enjoy a cocktail, and stay late for a dessert.
I'm getting to that age where I vpcannot eat an entire serving...and the staff was gracious about the doggie bag business. The meal was delicious the next day ...fried chicken for breakfast.

Had 11:00 brunch reservation and really wanted to enjoy the experience but unfortunately the restaurant in the kitchen was a disaster. There were only a few other tables occupied at the time and it took almost 45 minutes to receive our french toast, which came out so black it was not edible. The entire time we were waiting we watched the head chef, Alex on his IPhone (not too sanitary either when handling food). The manager was very apologetic and did not charge us but at that point we were done, although it was appreciated. The kitchen in this restaurant needs to be managed.

Were a little nervous about going back. The new chef took over in April and the reviews have been inconsistent. Have to tell you we had another great meal. Service remains superior. Our party of three had the trout, duck, and mussels. All cooked perfectly. Will go back and eat in there nice outside dining area. The only negative was the size of the martinis. But they are hip and trendy.

We arrived on a Saturday late afternoon, most of the tables in the back garden were reserved. The friendly offered us a picnic table. We ordered several appetizer to share. Each dish was a nice surprise. The ricotta chess with peas and mints was refreshing, the mixed wild mushroom with poached egg was beyond imagination, cauliflower with capers is a combination I have never seen, and the fried chicken with blue cheese dipping sauce simply takes you to heaven. The staffs were friendly and backyard was super relaxing, I would recommend Amsterdam to everyone!
