Owner description: Wilderstein Historic Site, with its exquisite Queen Anne mansion and Calvert Vaux designed landscape, is widely regarded as one of the Hudson Valley’s most important examples of Victorian architecture. The estate was the home of Margaret (Daisy) Suckley, whose extraordinarily close relationship with Franklin Delano Roosevelt has been well-chronicled and is the subject of much interest. Wilderstein’s guided tour includes the elaborate 1888 interiors of the first floor of the mansion, the exterior architecture, landscape, annual exhibition, and video. The regular season for guided tours is May through October. In addition, the mansion is open and decorated for the holidays from Thanksgiving weekend until the end of December. There is also a network of hiking trails on the property, special events throughout the year, a gift shop, and spectacular Hudson River views.

FDR's cousin and good friend, Daisy, lived at Wilderstein from birth to death in her 90's. The inside of the house is dark, but with beautiful Tiffany glass windows and a Hudson River overlook. Besides the house tour, you can walk wooded trails on the grounds. Be sure to watch the video of an interview with Daisy and her sister.

Let me begin by saying that I am a docent at this site. That said, it it truly a place that should not be missed. Fabulous architecture, incredible views of the Hudson River, spectacular interior by Joseph Burr Tiffany and great story of an interesting family and an amazing last resident, Daisy Suckley. I knew nothing about the house or the family when I moved to this area 6 years. Now I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend volunteering and giving tours of this wonderful place. Come for a visit. You won't be disappointed!

It is a great place to visit and get a little history. The grounds are beautiful and immaculate! Lots of trails, a view of the river, gardens and tours of the home are available for a small fee. A stunning piece of architecture.

Yes, the story between Daisy and FDR is interesting, but the more interesting story is how she lived out her life here, without much money, with the house deteriorating around her. It almost has a Grey Gardens feel to it. Also, the fact that this house has been resurrected by private funds, not a government agency, is even more amazing.
Good tour, beautiful views. An interesting juxtaposition to the other large houses of the area.

Wonderful old mansion right on the Hudson with knock out views. Tour is well worth it but guides could "lighten up" a bit. Too much emphasis on Daisy's relationship with FDR with respect to "were they or weren't they?" Who cares, really.
