While driving back from the Catskills, we noticed many beautiful places to dine in Rhinebeck. We're so glad we chose this cozy roadside cafe! The burgers and fresh cut fries were delicious. The chicken Parmesan sandwich was so large it came close to filling the entire dinner plate - crispy and very flavorful. Additionally, if you have a sweet tooth, you're going to want to visit the Matchbox. We were way too full to enjoy dessert at the cafe, so we left with an espresso brownie, a peanut butter chocolate cookie, a Butterfinger brownie, and a Matchbox cookie (best frosted butter cookie ever). They were all really tasty. Our visit to the Matchbox became a great vacation memory!

Traveling through the area, we consulted trip advisor to find this gem, and it made our afternoon! Fresh, delicious meals made from scratch, served in an adorable and cozy setting. Vegetarian friendly options, scrumptious desserts, and genial hosts willing to customize your meal. Don't miss the juicy veggie burger bursting with flavor or the almond joy ice cream cookie sandwich! We're already plotting our return next time we visit the area!

If you didn't know about the Matchbox, you're likely to drive right past it on your way into the village of Rhinebeck. The owner and his wife will greet you warmly, and guide you through the menu of high quality locally grown/raised fair. I have never had a better burger anywhere, the baked goods are incredible, and breakfast selections are second to none. The owners obviously take great pride in providing high quality food at a reasonable price, and are very nice folks as well. I believe they've owned restaraunts in NYC, and they clearly know what they are doing. It's worth the trip.

My husband and I stopped by this lovely café while visiting the Vanderbilt Mansion. As soon as we walked in, we were welcomed by the owner with a smile. We felt at home immediately. Our lunch was fresh and delicious. The real treat, the wonderful desserts!! Next time we are in the area, it will be a definite stop.

Just discovered this cozy sized eatery. When you're in the mood for some yummy, simple but not unsophisticated comfort food, pull into the Matchbox Cafe. Rhinebeck is usually noted for its more upscale dining, but this place could be a regular stop for us. We enjoyed the chicken parm (big enough for two), juicy burgers on good buns, and exceptional fries. Save room for the truly awesome cappuccino ice-cream sandwich, fresh baked brownies & cookies. The owner-cooks (as well as the prices) are welcoming and friendly. They use really fresh top quality ingredients here, and know what to do with them. It's a little treasure!
