Been here before , make a long story short , they were really good before and they were really good tonight ,THIS IS A CASUAL PLACE , not fancy at all. , jeans and sweats are just fine , but there food , service and ambiance is very good , 3 of us ate good ,drank good ,and had a nice time 135.00 includes tip , 4 drinks , 3 dinners 2 app , take it and run ,Will go back. Good job

This has been one of our go to places whenever in Rhinebeck. Consistent, delicious and nice wine list. Staff and service always great. Must try their duck quesadillas and the prize winning Pork chops

our appetizer quesadillas were excellent (we had the duck and the fig), however, the main courses (salmon and vegetarian risotto) were less than wonderful. My salmon was so dried out and overcooked that I had to send it back. The replacement was essentially raw.

The bistro menu has a large selection of items. I can highly recommend every aspect of the crispy eggplant sandwich dip.

This review is for the bistro side of the restaurant. We have been to Terrapin many times over the years. We have not dined at the "fine" dining side for a couple of years. Too many problems, mostly with service, but also with the food.

However, we have enjoyed the bistro on a somewhat regular basis. We almost always sit at the bar. On this last visit we arrived early on a Friday night. The restaurant side was quiet, but the bar side was almost full. We found space at the bar and were soon visited by the bartender, Matt, who recognized us. We like Matt, he makes a good drink and he has good knowledge of their beers.
We joke with him about getting Nachos, we always get them. They are quite simply THE reason why we go there. The burgers, wings, and Duck Quesadilla are excellent and they used to have an awesome Fois gras Tapas. There are many good items.
This time we decided to share a small Nachos and share the Shredded Duck Bolognese.
No problem with the Nachos, but the Bolognese?
Ok, partially our fault for not reading the menu. The dish is covered in shredded Brussels sprouts. I love Brussels sprouts but they are a strange addition to this dish. It might not have been so bad, but they covered them with grated cheese and it was a burned mess. I pushed them out of the way to discover over cooked pasta with a watery and flavorless sauce. We had to send it back. We felt bad about it, but Matt was gracious.
We decided to split an order of Fish and Chips. The fries were very good and the fish was cooked properly. The batter on the fish was too dense. It wasn't bad but I wont get it again.
What bothered me most was the owner. He had been hanging out at the bar talking with some customers when we enjoying the Nachos. He was in the back when the entrée came out and he came out after we sent it back. In my opinion he should have talked to us. It just left a sour taste in our mouths. Oh, maybe that was the burned Brussels.
