“Bucolic slice of heaven - the breakfast alone is worth the trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 September 2013

We stayed 2 nights/3 days last week. The B&B is exactly as advertised and as described by other reviewers. The property is very, very beautiful and well kept. At the height of the summer, with all the flowers in full bloom in the front garden, one feels transported into another land. Hard to believe Manhattan is only 2 hours away.
I love that there are many little areas for relaxation both inside and outside. It all feels very warm and cozy. We had never stayed at a B&B before, and we were afraid of having to make small talk with annoying or boring people - that never happened! Even though it was booked at full capacity, it is large enough that you don't feel crammed at all. The people we did meet were lovely, fun and interesting.
We stayed in the smallest room, "Tumblewood". It is very small, but perfect for our needs. Everything is spotlessly clean, and every detail had been carefully studied and arranged. You have coasters everywhere, an iron and ironing board, even bathrobes in the closet! The bathroom is across the hallway, but it is private to that room only, and literally 3 steps away. It was not a problem at all!
The true reason to stay there, in spite of all this, is the breakfast: amazing!!! I have never had anything like it, and my husband is a gourmet chef. Maggie makes you omelets with eggs from the farm's hens, the freshest ever, with in-season produce from the garden. The fruit salad is fresh, made every morning with local fruits; there are 4 or 5 cakes of all kinds on the table, plus cookies, bread, jams, etc. Maggie also makes french toast, pancakes, etc. You name it, she makes it!
After breakfast, Maggie gives guests the fruit scraps to takeover to feed the chickens...make sure you try that - it's hilarious! They all run towards you like crazy the minute you approach, it's as if they wanted to eat you alive! Really fun. Thank you Maggie.
I am so glad we were able to find this last-minute 2-night booking, at a time when she is booked to capacity virtually every night - the experience is truly worth it.

Mu husband & I came here on Aug 18, 2013 for our anniversary & stayed for 2 nites. We had such a nice time. The B&B is VERY clean. Really nice rooms with private bath; the little deck outside our bedroom was perfect. The breakfast is VERY good! Fresh baked goodies all day long! Maggie is so nice. She made sure that our 3 days were the best 3 days. My husband & I would love to come back!

Thank you Maggie!!

My husband and I stayed at Whistlewood last weekend for two nights and absolutely loved it there! The grounds are amazing - fields of grass and flowers, horses, donkeys, chickens, Adirondack chairs everywhere - it's a great place to walk around and explore. The rooms and common house areas were great too - we stayed in the Juniper room which was big and had a private porch, which we ate breakfast and relaxed on. The service by Maggie and her staff was very attentive - the snacks/baked goods and breakfast were all delicious! They even accommodated a late check-out for us with no problem. The B&B is a short 5 minute drive into 'downtown' Rhinebeck and was very convenient.
We would definitely come back! It feels like a true escape out in the country, with all the convenience of a upscale accommodation.

Whistlewood is a little piece of paradise. Each room is beautifully decorated and immaculate, the breakfasts and desserts are absolutely delicious, the grounds are beautiful. Maggie is very accommodating, hospitable, and fun. This is our second visit (with our Black Lab Lexy),and we stayed in the Morningside room which felt like our own little cabin in the woods. The sounds of the farm, sights of beautiful flower gardens, complete with hummingbirds and dragonflies, painted a picture of pure tranquility. We also enjoyed Maggie's extensive collection of antiquities, nicely displayed in many areas of the property and inn. Jake the dog is also a lot of fun, and was an excellent host to our dog. We have recommended Whistlewood to many of our friends, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a truly relaxing getaway.

I just visited Whistle Wood for the 6th time. My wife and I enjoyed our stay very much. The farm is beautiful. If you love the smell of wild flowers and the charm and character of a well groomed farm then you will enjoy Whistle Wood. Wake up to horses outside your window and chickens scattered around the stable. Hostess Maggie thoroughly enjoys cooking breakfast for a houseful. The eggs from those chickens are delicious! Maggie bakes all day and you can expect a table of pies, cakes, and muffins all day long. Perfect place to stay if you are visiting the FDR Library and would like a romantic place. My wife had never visited a Bed and Breakfast until this past weekend and now she would like to visit again. You will enjoy the peace and quiet and relaxation. sal & antonietta

We have stayed in several bed and breakfasts in the Hudson Valley. None were bad and each had positive aspects. Maggie's WhistleWood Farm is definitely the one that can answer to just about anyone's expectations. Some places have lovely, extensive grounds. WhistleWood does! There are horses, cows, and chickens to admire, and woods to roam around in. It's far up a private drive and nice and quiet.
Some places are far from towns that offer great choices in food and shopping. WhistleWood is exactly 3 miles to the center of Rhinebeck and 5 miles to the Hudson River and the Rhinecliff Amtrak station. It's down the road from the Aerodrome and a few minutes from the Dutchess County fairgrounds.
The rooms vary in style and price. Even the least expensive room is well decorated, and although the bathroom in this one room is across the hall, it was still perfectly private. All the other rooms have attached baths and many have their own porch areas. Breakfast offers fresh homemade treats including muffins baked with homegrown peaches, Fresh laid eggs with just picked herbs, and much more. I can go on more about the pies and cakes that are always laid out. Enjoy!! This place is really feels like a labor of love.

Each time it just gets better and better! This is my 5th time staying at WhistleWood B+B..1st time way back in 1987 when I was just a prospective student at the CIA. Came back to Whistlewood while I was a student at the CIA. Came back as a grad, came back on my Wedding Anniversary and now with my 5 year old son..PERFECTION AT EVERY TURN! This time traveling with my 85 year old father and my 5 year old son- great room, stayed in the Morning Side Room, warm and inviting, greeted in the morning by lovely wondering brood of chickens, to whom graciously gave us the most delicious eggs that Maggie cooked to perfection along with Chantrelle Mushrooms and chives(all grown at WhistleWood). Honey the horse, Jake the dog and Jack the donkey make this place a wonderland of sights and sound..As always MARVELOUS!
