The Lake House
Reviewed 4 January 2012

Our wedding party and other friends our age stayed at this hotel for the entire weekend of our Cooperstown wedding. Though the Lake House is located about 15 minutes north of the village proper, the property is nestled next to a lovely lake and within a 5 minute-drive of a grocery store, pharmacy, restaurants, etc. in Richfield Springs.

With bedrooms off of the two central common rooms was the perfect layout for our group preparations and celebrations. The decor was charming, woodsy, and cozy- perfect for the style of our wedding and fitting for the area. Chris, the owner and manager, allowed us to bring our two dogs as well! Having the freedom to use the entirety of the hotel for our group was the epitome of relaxing. We did not have to worry about bothering other guests or running into people we didn't know at the height of our wedding stress.

Along with the cozy accommodations, Chris made us all a delicious and hot breakfast every morning. She was excellent to work with from our first visit in May, through the booking process, and through the most perfect wedding weekend ever!

We highly recommend this hotel for large groups. It was clean, welcoming, and the staff is wonderful. Though we were too busy to enjoy the lake, I have no doubts that the activities available to guests are fantastic as well. The price is hard to beat!

Room Tip: Our room had a beautiful view of the lake. The website specifies which rooms have the view, but be...

The first thing we do each morning as a service team is check out and review our reviews. What a way for us to start the day....that is by reading what you wrote about what we offer the public and the manner in which we serve....our greatest asset....our clientele. Please revisit us time and time again and feel free to introduce yourself so that we may thank you in person. We have passed this wonderful review to Ruth who was elated with your comments.

The Lake House Hotel was really quaint, the scenery was beautiful, the owners and staff were wonderful and extremely helpful and attentive. They made us feel at home and treated us like family. We came with a large group of families (baseball team) and stayed at the Lake House Hotel, which is about 1 mile north of the Lake House B&B.

As guests at the hotel, we could use all of the amenities of the Lake House B&B and they even hosted a team party for us one evening on the deck and lake-front grounds. We had dinner, a bonfire, and the boys played on the row boats and canoes in Lake Canadarago.

Our sons played baseball all week in the Dream Park, which was about a 20 - 30 minute scenic drive to the park. We loved the Lake House and Chris & Gene so much that we plan to go back next year (2012) to have our family vacation.

My daughter and I stayed here while my husband and son were at Dreams Park for the week. From the moment we entered, the warm and inviting atmosphere was evident. There were several couples chatting while waiting to be seated for supper, "oldies" music playing softly in the background, and even a sleepy dog curled cozily near the front porch. This familial and comfortable nature of the Lake House truly made it a one-of-a-kind experience. We immediately felt as though we were welcomed there as friends as opposed to simply guests. The owners, as well as their staff, are wonderful people who not only are concerned about how your stay is going but also are enjoyable to converse with in general.
Our room was completely incredible. It's uniqueness was a pleasant hiatus from the standard hotel room of a Holiday Inn or similar establishment. Old fashioned furniture, fabric wall adornments, books everywhere, a completely gorgeous view--- truly made it a quintessential lakeside getaway.
If you are looking for a relaxing, family-oriented place to stay, the Lake House is a wonderful experience. We didn't even want to leave and miss everyone, especially Miss Kitty.

Rented 3rd floor. Owner's personal items stored all around the place--a random shower curtain hung to hide the junk in a hallway corner, a huge stereo speaker lying on its side on kitchen counter. Leftover food left in fridge that barely worked--it melted our ice and our food warm. 1rst night there a bat came out of a door from the attic and flew around some before it returned to its place of origin. Cobwebs, dirty sheets on bed and stored in hamper and personal care products left in showers from another group. In several bedrooms there were no screens in windows, forcing you to use the old,too small air conditioners that barely worked. Lots of bugs in rooms(the bat isn't even good at cleaning). Door loudly slams everytime you use it. The grounds could be beautiful but are not. "houseboats" stored on side, lots and lots of junk. Dogs roaming property--mangy. Who cares if you raise them, you don't expect them in restaurant along with a cat. The goose poop, although beyond control of owners maybe, is everywhere and they are not little droppings. The smell one night after their visit to the property was unbearable. A sensible person would not be willing to swim there-yuck!! ....can you say "duck itch"?

This property with a lot of work, removal of junk, updating, treatment that it is a rental property (we were told the daughter of owner sleeps on the third floor when it is not rented--think she forgot to replace her bed with clean sheets) could be so much more. I would not recommend--also, it was too long of a drive to the all-star village.

As an owner, we work very diligently to make people happy and are dismayed by this person's critique. There are seasonal items stored in a closet area on this floor- fall decorations, a six foot tin soldier for Christmas, a shelf with feather beds and blankets for the winter travelers. The space is covered by a floor to ceiling drape and is not in an area for guests. Of course, some folks do like to explore. Since the Green Movement, we have supplied shampoo in bigger bottles to avoid continually throwing away small bottles of toiletries. When they are empty, we throw the bigger bottle away instead of little bottles after each guest leaves. We explain that when someone arrives so that they are aware that they were not left behind but there for their use. Similarly, since we rent to groups by the week, we leave common condiments in the refrigerator- ketchup, mustard, etc. so that they can be used if they want. After this review, however, we just toss everything out- what we were doing to make people feel at home became a criticism. This is only the second year that we have used the third floor and all of the air conditioners are new, the screens are in place and it is a beautiful place to stay. We are rehabilitating some antique boats behind a fenced in area because we enjoy redoing old properties and things, it is a work area and not for guests. The Department of Environmental Conservation reports the lake is one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in New York State. Canadarago Lake offers clean, clear water, excellent fishing & public swimming We did realize after this review that the screen door was loud when it closed and fixed the problem. If out guest had mentioned it while he/she was here, it could have been fixed for them. I am sorry they were disappointed while they were here. Everyone at the Lake House is totally committed to providing our guests with a good experience.

Recently spent a weekend at The Lake House with a friend and tried out their new offering of "Boat and Breakfast." To be honest, I was wary of the concept at first, but it turned out to be terrific! You not only get the spend the day relaxing on the lake, you then get to watch a beautiful sunset and enjoy the night stars over the lake. My favorite part may have been waking up to an early, serene morning on the lake, and then enjoying the complimentary breakfast that went along with it :) What a great idea... I will definitely be back!
