“Pricey but fun”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2014

Long Island Aquarium is a nice place to visit. It's a bit on the expensive side for the size of it, but I guess they have to charge a lot to keep all the animals well maintained. I was very disappointed that they got rid of the Sulcata tortoises and replaced them with the World of Darkness - bats, a sloth and a few porcupines. The Butterfly exhibit was terrific. Nice environment for the butterflies. A highlight of the visit is feeding the stingrays in the tank near the entrance. However, $3 for a hot dog holder a quarter filled with little dead fishies,is excessive. Size wise, I would say it's manageable for people with kids because you can really see everything in about 2 1/2 hours.

“Surprisingly entertaining for kids and adults alike”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

This aquarium has a big petting pool of rays, which was a lot of fun for both kids and adults. It also has lots of HUGE sharks. The shark tank was more impressive than I expected. We also enjoyed observing sea lions, crocodiles and octopus. It was raining when we visited, but I can see the koi pond and other outdoor exhibition would be fun to explore on a sunny day.

The aquarium ticket also includes entry to the butterfly and bird exhibition. Do NOT skip it. The butterflies fly freely in an enclosed space. There are so many colorful species. They may even land on your head!

Long story short, I didn't expect much of this place, but it turned out to be a hidden gem.

“A great aquarium ”

The animals were kept in good condition and the grounds are neat and clean. The animals were well tamed and the service is great. Would recommend going here if you are in the area.

“Small, Managable, and Fun day”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

the LI aquarium is the perfect day activity The aquarium is small enough that you can see all the exhibits, while large enough to keep you occupied for a few hours. My friend and I did the penguin encounter which was SUCH a great experience worth all $50 (although we were paired with 6 other people - may have been slightly more personal if it was a smaller group). We also did the sea lion kiss which although exciting, they wouldn't let us take our own pictures and the picture they made you pay for was blurry (not iPhone quality at all). That being said both experiences were wonderful and I would do it again. Also the new butterfly and insect exhibit was really cool and beautifully done! The butterflies were gorgeous and the birds were really fun to feed. The staff was friendly and helpful and everyone was constantly smiling. We had a great day!

“Great place to take the entire family!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

This place has it all! It's more than just an aquarium with it's beautiful fishes, sharks, turtles, Japanese Spider crabs, seals , etc. There are African penquins, river otters and my suprise monkeys too(although they looked sad in their den). Kids of all ages and young adults will find this small aquarium a fun place to spend the day. There's even an arcade and ice cream store to enjoy. The cafe is doable but didn't like the cheeseburgers/hotdogs so much. Their chicken fingers is much tastier with it's crisp exterior and juicy interior...done well. The french fries are somewhat limp and cold siting under the heat lamps. If you can get it hot..probably taste better. The pretzels are good but too expensive in my opinion. But...you are enjoying the day with the family so who's counting dollars anyway? There are attractions that will cost you more money, like the submarine simulator, penquin encounter(up close and personal) and even a horizontal ferris ride up high. We really enjoyed seeing the butterfly exhibit where you actually see live butterflies flying all over you in their own sanctuary. What a wonderful experience to encounter. There was also a bird avairy(spelling?) with cute birdies that you can touch if they come to you:) PICTURE moments galore!!!

Overall a great place to take the entire family and don't forget to go into town for their food...probably better than the food at the aquarium(sorry...cafe). But if you are just like us...we were hungry and couldn't wait like everyone else and had to get some food there. Guess you're stuck to eat their food no choice. Have fun!!!
