Owner description: The George Eastman Museum is located in Rochester, New York, on the estate of George Eastman, the pioneer of popular photography and motion picture film. Founded in 1947 as an independent nonprofit institution, it is the world's oldest photography museum and one of the oldest film archives. The museum holds unparalleled collections-encompassing several million objects-in the fields of photography, cinema, and photographic and cinematographic technology, and photographically illustrated books. The institution is also a longtime leader in film preservation and photographic conservation.

Thought it was a unique mix of a fine arts museum and a historic home museum. Like the photography exhibits, but wished for more....seems like this museum should have overwhelmed us on photography. Left liking what I saw, but wanting more.

adults will be intrigued but kids will be waiting at the exit, the gingerbread houses are nice at Christmas and some film making exhibits are neat but all around just average

Beautifully restored home, great gardens, interesting technology and photography exhibits. Easy to find and parking was ample. Would strongly recommend a visit.

Great history, and rotating exhibits. The gingerbread houses are always a favorite! I also enjoy the gardens in the spring, and took in the Civil War photography exhibit. Hoping Ansel Adams returns.

This was my second tour of the George Eastman house, and I found it strangely disappointing. This was due to the tour guides. The guide on my original tour included small touching details about George Eastman (both positive and negative) that really brought "the man behind the myth" to life in many ways.
However, the guide on my latest tour, while equally enthusiastic, gave a quite polished, PR-type spiel, emphasizing George Eastman's virtues and good deeds relentlessly at every turn, while leaving out the small yet important details that could humanize him and make him seem more real (eg, his relationship with is hardworking mother, his struggle with pain and depression at the end of his life, etc).
That being said, the house and story of the man are still worthwhile enough to warrant a visit, as the building is perfectly restored, and wonderfully maintained, with many fascinating features that give a window into life at that time. The adjoining Museum of Photography, though small, is also worth a look.
