We stayed one night at the Homewood Suites in October, 2013 to attend an event downtown at the Blue Cross Arena. Although we would have preferred to stay downtown (all of the hotels were sold out), we were very pleased with the Homewood Suites and would recommend it highly to anyone taking a trip to Rochester.
First off, the hotel is in a solid location. Although it isn't downtown, it is located right off the highway and an easy 15 minute commute into town. Additionally, there are several quality chain restaurants nearby (Famous Dave's, Olive Garden, Applebee's), if you need to grab a bite in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. It is tucked away off an access road, but easy enough to find and in a quiet location.
The staff at the hotel were helpful and accommodating in answering my questions about the events downtown and what, if any, kind of traffic I might run into. Since we were only there for one night and left relatively early in the morning, that was the only interaction I had with them. Everyone seemed friendly and professional, though.
Our room was large, although not technically a suite. There was a kitchenette immediately upon entering the room with a full-sized fridge and dishwasher, two-burner cooktop, microwave, and coffee maker. In addition were all of the plates, glasses, silverware, etc. you might need if you wanted to cook a meal (we didn't due to our short stay). Past the partition that doubled as a kitchen table was a couch and ottoman, desk, somewhat awkwardly-positioned TV (on the long wall of a long rectangular room), and the bed at the far end. The room was quite long although somewhat narrow and there was more than enough room for two people. I'd have preferred to have had some kind of partition between the bed and the sitting area, but that's a minor issue. The sofa and bed were both comfortable enough, although a little on the firm end for my taste. The linens on the bed were a bit too heavy for the unseasonably warm fall weather we were having. The climate control worked well enough and a ceiling fan kept air moving through the large space. The room was immaculately clean and two windows made it bright as well. The bathroom area featured a large counter along with the sink and mirror and a separated shower area that made getting dressed much faster and easier
The hotel has several amenities geared for travelers who are staying for a longer time. There was a small fitness center (didn't use), business center, putting green, and then the common area where breakfast and weekday dinner were served. The included breakfast was as good as many I've paid for at other hotels with both standard hot options (eggs, potatoes, sausage), along with a do-it-yourself waffle station, cold cereal, fruit, etc.
In all, we were satisfied with our short stay and would happily stay there again if we were in the Rochester area.
