This is a great museum. Nestled in the Arts district in Rochester, this medium sized University affiliated museum has a world class collection of ancient through modern art. Frequent shows and changing exhibits always keep the collection fresh. My kids really enjoy the art. Great collection of Egyptian art and Medieval art. Really enjoy the Wendell Castle Clock!

“Just Right”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

This museum is just the right one for a leisurely day trip. It is perfect for visiting without being overwhelming and tiring. There are many gems and interesting exhibits without having "museum overload". The cafe and gift shop are very pleasant and the grounds are great. Make sure to check out the engraving on the sidewalks.

“A Very Impressive Art Museum”
Reviewed 21 September 2013

This museum is definitely worth a visit. The American art on the first floor is a wonderful collection from an historic perspective and includes a terrific preColumbian display. Some of the local Rochester art collectors who made donations are identified with interesting local stories. . The second floor has much to offer from Impressionism to Old Masters to Asian art. It has a excellent small restaurant with a lovely menu from omelets to salads to creative sandwiches. This is a great way to spend an afternoon. If the weather is pleasant, I would recommend a walk in the nearby riverside park.

“Such treasures in this building”
Reviewed 4 August 2013

This museum, in one of the original buildings of the University of Rochester is a true gem. Their collection has many outstanding pieces of the genre, and for such a small museum, their collection of American artists and their pieces are stunning. I was particularly captured by their rotating exhibit of pieces from the "Arts and Crafts Revival" from their neighbor to the south, Rochester Institute of Technology. Such imaginative work and so representative of the capacity of technology in design. I love everything about this museum, it's size, it's amazing collection, and it's lovely resturant that really provides a 4 star experience to your tour there! It is a greaat way to spend a sunday morning, with lunch!

“Worth a second visit”
Reviewed 1 August 2013

I went to the MAG in early June and was happy to go back today. It's not a huge museum but it has some very interesting exhibits and was worth the second look. If you go on the Eastman House tour then you'll want to include a stop at MAG so you can see the original copies of the paintings from the house.
They also have the world's most adorable sculpture outside by Tom Otterness. It's called the Creation Myth and features small sculptures of a female artist throughout the installation. You can also see a few small sculptures up by the entrance to the building.
Open late on Thursday with half price tickets.
