“Our all time favorite place to go!!”
Reviewed 22 October 2012 via mobile

Tony D's has got to be one of Rochesters greatest gems as far as dining is concerned. This is by far our favorite restaurant. Whether you get the amazing coal fired pizza or chicken wings, or one of their fantastic specials, you cannot go wrong. Upscale ambiance and delicious food and drink. Their calamari is to die for!! My husband had the tenderloin special....perfectly seasoned and seared. I have never had a bad experience at Tony D's. And if you want a extra fun experience sit at the chefs table! So fun!!

“Great location and Great food!”
Reviewed 20 October 2012

Have been to Tony D's several times now and have had consistently good food and good service. We've eaten at the bar, outside on the patio overlooking the river, and at the "chef's table" which is a sit-up bar looking over the kitchen. The food is outstanding! The menu is limited with respect to entree's (if you're looking it over online) but that's because every night there are about 5-6 specials which fill in for a standard menu item. We love that because things are new, fresh, and simply delish. Last time we went, we had a sirloin steak in a wine reduction with mashed potatoes and sauteed spinach that bested any steak I've had anywhere. Be aware though that they don't take reservations - and so you may have to wait, particularly on the weekends after 7. We went around 6:30 and waited for 20 minutes for a table. Later on when we left around 9..the wait was about an hour people told us. Btw, we have taken our kids to Tony D's - so it's a great restaurant for couples and families. Kids LOVED the pizzas! Although they are wood fired and do come with a bit of that char - so be prepared.

“Superb food, fantastic ambiance”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

This was my wife's and my second visit to Tony D's. We couldn't wait but for 2 weeks to return. The ambience is spot on for anyone over 21. On our first visit we sat out on the terrace with great views of the river. What really got our attention however, was the fact that you could also sit around a long curved counter with the chefs strutting their stuff right before your eyes. We asked for a couple of seats and the counter was ours for the night. As I cook at home I learned quite a bit watching the pros. The pizza ove was glowing with coal and wood and was a work of art in and of itself . Not a bad dish was to be had. The rissoto balls (arancini) were spectacular and the pasta dish with scallops and jumbo (read mammoth) shrimp was top shelf. The staff was first rate and took care of our every need and always went above and beyond in every aspect of the service. This is our new go to for all our Italian dining.

“Creative and dedicated Chef”
Reviewed 6 September 2012

We (6 guest) arrived at Tony D's and we had a waite of approximatly 40 minuts. The establishment was very busy, always a good sign. the hostes was quite nice and accomidating to every party waiting to be seated. The food was exceptionaly delisous and well presented. the chef Jay Speranza is creative and dedicated to his food and his ability to inter act with the patrons. wood fired pizza was the best in Rochester, his chicken wings were a special treat, along with dinner specials. We were able to sit on the padio over looking tthe Geneese River. to cap off the night with a little samboca. Truely a delightful experiance.

“Delicious Italian cuisine in a lovely locale”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

Spent a lovely Friday evening in August 2012 on the covered patio overlooking the river at Tony D’s, a new restaurant in the historic, upscale Corn Hill section of Rochester. This restaurant is insanely crowded during prime dining hours on weekends and doesn’t take reservations for parties under 6, so we went before 6PM, got one of the few remaining parking spots, and were seated immediately.

Our table ordered wine and beer, appetizers and dinner entrée specials which came to about $50 apiece. If you stick with the pizza (which we didn’t try), you can get away for a lot less.

We all tried the arancini appetizer which was spectacular – crispy fried risotto rice balls with prosciutto and mozzarella in an olive oil/pesto sauce. We all ordered dinner specials instead of menu items. Some of us had 10 oz. filet mignon (as tender in the mouth as a pat of butter) on a bed of spinach with roasted potatoes. Others of us had Zuppa di Pesce, a deliciously seasoned stew of scallops, clams, and giant shrimp. (I ordered by saying, “That zuppida mer one that you said last.” Don’t pass this one up just because you’re embarrassed that you can’t say it! It’s delicious.)

There was a fine selection of bottled beer but nothing on draft. Choices of wine by the glass were good.

The river view was delightful and we watched the wooden tour boat “Mary Jemison” turn in the river and dock with her contingent of passengers, and afterwards we strolled along the riverwalk.

A great place for delicious Italian cuisine in a lovely locale. As out-of-towners, we were lucky our hosts were already acquainted with this trendy newcomer.
