This is a place to watch cinema as an art form rather than mere entertainment. This is not to say the movies they play are not entertaining, rather that they provide more than just that.
The theater itself is a treat: located in Eastman House, surrounded by the spirit and tangible memorabilia of film making.

Plays off the wall movies that have been around for a while. I enjoyed the showing of one of my favorite old movies "Back to School". Definitely read up on the movies being shown before you decide to go though, they are not always hits.

Every fall we attend the Labor Film festival here. Beautiful old theatre, complete with the velvet curtain that goes up before the film, and an introducer that tells the history of the film.

We enjoyed the Looney Tunes and the narrative beforehand. More of the same please? Tex Avery Next? The theater was comfortable and a true pleasure.

We visited the Dryden on Christmas Eve to see an old Edward G. Robinson film from the 40's. Besides the fun of the film the Eastman House is a tremendous place to visit. The staff is always friendly and helpful. We always visit the George Eastman House for events but this is the first time we had been to the theater. We waited in a quaint snack bar with a very helpful attendant. We purchased coffee and cookies. It was a nice Christmas Eve and we will definitely be back!
