I visited the Red Barn with a few friends in May and I had an awesome time. The Red Barn is not like the typical commercial climbing gym, it's primarily a bouldering gym and somewhat smaller in size that other gyms I've visited. But what the Red Barn lacks in scale, it makes up for with it's inviting atmosphere, open-air environment, top-notch route setting, and friendly, helpful staff.
The Red Barn is quite literally located in an old dairy barn, and with the barn doors flung open in the fall and spring it makes for a refreshing open-air atmosphere. With a boulder that tops out as well as more heavily padded highball wall upstairs, and more overhanging climbing in the basement, there is plenty of varied terrain to satisfy all styles of climbing.
Climbing at the Barn is conducive to all skill levels from the first-timers to those climbing in the double digits. And regardless of skill level, everyone that I encountered at the Red Barn was friendly and willing to offer advice to those new to the sport. And with renovations happening this summer (2013), I'm sure there will be even more fun to be had at the Red Barn in coming years. So bring your friends, and try climbing. You might just get hooked on it like the rest of us have.
